Hi Guys,
Nice to see you at our latest thread. I chose "Working It Out" as the subject heading since so many of us are exercising!!!! :strong: Weigh to go, Turtles. I also chose it because so many of us face problems that can elicit an emotional response that has led to overeating in the past.
Here's to us all figuring out what we can do better than eating to work things out!!!!! :goodvibes:
I've got a busy weekend and a social weekend coming up, but the BBQ is here so it's up to me to make the food figure friendly!
Have fun.

Morning all you turtles...:)

I've been busy this morning cleaning up the house a bit. I'm taking my break cuz my body told me to. Actually I should be running to Target to get my medicine so I can get a full dose in tomorrow. I'll do that in a bit.

So what are all the plans for the long weekend? We are keeping it close to home too. Money is tight, there is too many nuts out there, and I am "babysitting" my dad/stepmom's cat while they are gone. I'm hoping to get caught up on a few things and ahead on others. Wouldn't that be nice for a change? ! ? :D This week I didn't get much done at all . Nicole was home tues & wed. being sick. Spring, allergies, and asthma to not mix.She is a handful when she is sick.

Well off to finish up the kitchen and the living room...then to Target for the meds. I'll catch up later tonight.

Chris

I posted this over on the 214 thread before I realized a new one had started, so I'm going to re-post it here.

What a nice day this is turning out to be. DH and I have been talking about going to Las Vegas for a couple days in early June just for a change of scene -- I am usually happy staying home -- especially if I have time to quilt! -- but he gets itchy feet. This morning he decided to go online and actually make reservations and the result is that we now have tickets to see Cirque du Soleil Mystere AND Terry Feder, the ventriloquist who won "America's Got Talent" two seasons ago. And because he is ex-military, we got all the tickets at 50% off! So we're going to have some of the best seats in the house at the same price as we would pay for the nosebleed section without a discount.

Judy, I'm hoping you hit that 25 lb. goal at your next weigh-in! My weight loss has been sooo slow the past few weeks it's easy for me to start getting very frustrated but luckily that stinkin' thinkin' of I'm not losing anyway, I might as well eat whatever I want has not occurred. That's the kind of nutso thinking that has derailed me in the past.

I just made my first batch of "real" brown rice (as opposed to instant) and while it tasted mighty good, it was sticky. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

ladynredd 05-23-2009 08:20 AM

Well worth watching. Inspiring even.

This is a commercial from Thailand .

It is an advertisement done as a "Life lesson".

It is absolutely wonderful and about doing something with all your heart.

Well worth watching...and never a mention of the product until the very end.

Hi Turtles,
Chrily, here's :goodvibes: to help you get the stuff done this weekend you'd like to do. When I get stuff done, I always feel like I'm the most on track. Food's good, organization is good, house is clean and clear. All environment just feels right and then I "feel right" too.

Donna, hey, that Las Vegas trip sounds like fun. Have a good time. I've never been there but friends say it's a lot of fun. As far as the brown rice: Minute brown rice really doesn't taste an awful lot like brown rice to me. Brown rice that requires much longer cooking does end up on the sticky side tasting almost nutty. I have a feeling that if it was impossibly sticky it was the water to rice ratio that was off. Could that be?
By the way, the ad from Thailand was great to watch.

All goes well here. Went to my friend's birthday party yesterday. She had a large group of friends gathered for a potluck luncheon. My dh was a sport and went with me. There were hardly any men there. I was anxious about what foods would be available, etc. so I picked up a crudite platter with dip at the supermarket. I also had a big snack before I left for the party. As it turned out, I decided not to eat anything and ate when we returned home. It seemed like a smart thing to do and I was happy about that. I was able to do a few things outdoors when we got home to set up the yard for the summer. Lots more to do, but I'm working on it. Now I'm heading out to pick up food for the BBQ on Sunday. :chef: I better run before it gets to be too late.
Take care, be well and happy and have fun this weekend.

Super Saturday

ladynredd-
Hi, were neighbors! I live in Homeland just past Winchester on your way to Perris. I go into Hemet all the time for appts and shopping (cuz you have such a big mall)
Terry Feder Oh how cool. I wanted to see him when he was here at one of the local casinos, but they sold out instantly. We watched every single of America's got Talent.
I have been considering making Spanish Rice with brown rice, I just need to use up the 3 or 4 bags of regular rice I somehow have currently. Heaven forbid I throw it away.:dizzy:

chrily-
I will be cleaning up the house a bit today also. Both my guys are off to play with there friends, so I am home alone. I need to stay busy so I don't get the boredom munchies. They don't know it but they are leaving me in a house with an open bag of cheddar cheese mini rice cakes. A serving is 9 cakes, and I do well when I take them to work in a baggie. But here, unsupervised... I don't know. They are my kryptonite no, maybe... crack is more like it. I can stay away from the sweet snacks but the salty now that's a different story.:corn:
I hear ya on the money tight thing. We only get paid once a month and the last week is always tight. To top it off it is my baby's birthday Thursday (he'll be 19) We spent way over 200 on an Ipod for him. But, yesterday I was able to pick up the fixings for tacos, his favorite dinner.
That's a good question.. any tips out there for preserving fresh veggies and fruits to last till the end of the month? Seems like we eat a lot of processed food the last week of the month cuz it's cheep and has a shelf life till dooms day.
Anyway how goes the kitty sitting?:mouse:

Judy-:cp:
Way to go at the birthday potluck luncheon. You get the Will Power Award this week. Social situations are very scary when you are working on a weight loss goal. You should be so proud of yourself. I did not do so well, I gave in on Wednesday at the classifed luncheon. I already had a granola bar for 4 points around 12:30 and I was going to my WW meeting to have dinner around 6:30. So I totaly did not need to eat. But I did...I had a rib-a-que without the bun and a salad with light Italian dressing and two diet sodas. I did make a quick get a way before ther cut the retirment cake.:ink:

Sunday is my DH's stepdad's birthday and he wants homemade waffles with all the trimmings. My plan of attack is to have my special K waffles and sugar free syurp, with maybe a few strawberries on the side. to get in a fruit serving.
Monday's dinner will be just us so no big deal, I probably have a smart ones frozen dinner. Also Monday will be the first day I extend my walk to 3 miles. I wonder how long it will take. This week I've been doing 2.46 (come on call it 2.5) and it takes about 60 min.

So my Turtle friends BBQ season is just before us
We can do this
go for the watermelon it has fiber (i think)

ladynredd 05-23-2009 01:15 PM

 [B]msmeri[B] I have a good idea where you are! I hate the Hemet post office so I use yours all the time. And congrats on extending your walking distance -- when I first started I could barely do a mile; now I'm up to five!

I FINALLY saw the scale move today at my weigh-in. Hip, hip, hooray! :carrot: :broc: :carrot: I took my measurements and saw a change on my waist and hip measurements too so I was hoping to see some downward movement, but 4 lbs. in one week! I think that's a personal best for me.

Busy day planned today. MIL's 84th birthday party is tomorrow so I have to buy all the "stuff" for the party and bake a cake. I also need a new cell phone and I think I've decided to get a rice cooker so maybe I'll shop @ WalMart instead of the usual, closer, grocery.

BIL drove in from Nevada for his mom's birthday and will plant our nectarine tree today. He leaves Monday and is taking DH with him for a visit -- DH just couldn't stand those itchy feet and my work schedule makes it a poor time for me to leave. So I will have 5 days of peace and quiet and only one day of work, which means I'll have time, glorious time, in my sewing room.

Itryharder 05-23-2009 03:58 PM

Lady----:cp: :bravo:  :cheer: :goodscale: holy moly, down 4# is fabulous!!!! I guess the scale was waiting to move to give you a really impressive WI. Terrific!
Hi everybody=-=I've gotta run. Food today is good and I've been working outside so I';ll respond better later.
Msmeri and Donna, what fun that you're neighbors. Wow, I'm thinking walking together, meeting for WW style picnics, and getting another really good friend. Wowsie!

Morning, turtles

Ladynredd - WOW what a fabulous loss, that is great.

Msmeri - try to keep focussed on your goals (easier said than done, I know)

Judy - glad to see you are staying on track.

Princess - hope you are hanging in there

Everyone else - hope you had a great weekend.

Did more yard work yesterday (got my hedge all trimmed up) and bought some new patio lights, so things are pretty much under control at the house.
Didn't make it up to trailer this weekend. Was overcast so thought I would focus on home things.

Went to bingo last night & didn't win anything. And worse than that had a few treats from the snack bar - so really have to behave until Wed weigh in.

Today, just puttering around the house & relaxing.

Have a great Sunday, everyone!

chrily 05-24-2009 01:18 PM

Morning ladies...

I didn't get a chance to check in yesterday. I was busy busy busy. Nicole has talked me into a garden. So yesterday I pulled weeds, and got some stuff ready for the work part today. Kelly rototilled everything back up from two years ago and it's got icky manure in it. Nice...who would have thought plants would love poo!

I got the majority of my paperwork done yesterday too. Today I mow the backyard. I could save that for Kelly, but it is good exercise so I'm going to do it.

Lady-Great weight loss! Bet you are happy happy happy! :carrot: I am so looking forward to getting a consistent weight loss going here. I am tired of being overweight and tired.

Okay...hello to the rest of you and off I go. I have alot to do. TtFn...I'll check back later with you all.

msmeri 05-24-2009 02:15 PM

Sensational Sunday

chrily- A garden, what a great way to get your veggies. No unsafe pesticides. We had plans for tomatoes but with the upcoming move it never happened. Maybe next year.:broc:

bandit-I haven't been to bingo in like a million years. I used to play every November with the Community Council. They give you a frozen turkey if you win. :turkey:
The only thing I like better then bingo is maybe Bunco. Have you ever played that?

ladynredd-How was the birthday party? Hope you didn't have seconds on the cake. crudite all the way;)

Well I did make my goal of walking 2.46 miles 6 times this week. That's over 12 miles total. Tomorrow I am going 2.8 miles, not a big jump but I can't plan out a better route in the neighborhood yet.:tread:
I did however forget a few times about the 5 or 6 exercises I wrote down in my journal last Sunday. I can't change the past, I'll just try harder next week. I am not going to write down new goals, just keep the ones from last week.
Maybe the DH's step-dad will bring me over one of his DVD players (mine broke) and I can use the new exercise ball I bought with a 1200 pound burst rate. It comes with a DVD. The general practitioner dose not want me doing my aerobic walking/kick boxing DVD until I see the Ortho Dr. on 6/2. Hope I can still do the 5k I already paid for on 6/6 up in Idywild.:running:

bandit2 05-24-2009 02:50 PM

Msmeri - no haven't played bunco. But I do like my bingo, gets expensive though if you don't win - same as the casinos. I like my gambling, so have to play ahead & stay within comfortable limits of losing even though we all like to think we are going to win.

You are doing really great with all your walking - weigh to go!

Chrily - that is cool you are going to garden. That is one thing I have never tried. When we were kids my dad use to have a veggie garden & fun you could just go out & pick stuff for dinner. And tomatoes are soooooooo much nicer right out of the garden.

Just finished a load of laundry & now time for a nice cup of tea.

For lunch today I had a pita pizza & boy was it good. Haven't had one in awhile so hit the spot & sooooo easy to make.

Bye for now

bandit2 05-24-2009 02:51 PM

Msmeri - typo - I meant I have to plan ahead with the gambling $$$

ladynredd 05-24-2009 11:26 PM

Today was a good, if long, day. It was my mother-in-law's 84th birthday and we had a party for her here at the house. DH's brother drove in from Nevada, his daughter, her husband, and 4 kids were here -- 11 people all told. Our barbeque was used for the first time (niece's husband did the grilling) with a choice of chicken, hamburgers, or hot dogs (choice of Hebrew National 1-pt. hot dogs or regular full fat) KFC cole slaw, baked beans, canned corn, green salad, watermelon and homemade lemonade cake.

I feel really good about the choices I made today. I went swimming for an hour and actively *swam* while the kids horsed around. I had just one small bite of cake, no frosting, and ate a big helping of watermelon instead. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food and I sent all the leftovers home with the guests so there will not be cake or anything else calling my name while DH is out of town.

And today is the first time that any family members, aside from DH, have noticed my weight loss. My niece commented about it. I sent my old VHS Leslie Sansone walking tape home with her. :)

Dishes are all washed and I am tired. I'll be up early tomorrow to bid DH adieu and then spend some serious time in my sewing room!
