Friday's Thread

  • OK, so it's really really late Thursday night (actually, it's 2:28 am, so it's technically Friday). Spent the last two days being sick in bed, so I'm actually feeling kind of good to be back at work. Someone (sorry, I don't remember who--still a little out of it from illness) asked me basically if my *** still drags or if I've adjusted to the schedule. Well, yes, I'd say that I did after about the first three days. I do blame the working nights for me getting sick--everything is so screwy you don't know what the "normal" times for doing things are. For example, I haven't hardly been eating because I don't know when TO eat. Which I thought would help at WI, but I was up .8 lbs. I don't know what that's all about considering that I usually don't even eat my minimum points with this schedule, but whatever... For the next couple of weeks, I'm not taking anything at WI seriously. I haven't been able to get to the gym, but I have been running around a lot in the warehouse (where I'm working for this month) and thought that that would make a difference too. But it hasn't. No biggie--like I said, I'm not taking WI seriuosly until after this outage. Someone also asked why I'm working these nutty hours. Well, I work at a nuclear power plant and every 18 months or so, we shut the plant completely down to change out fuel (because we can't do it when the plant is running). This is called an outage. They work around the clock for the duration of the outage and need people to support the people doing the important stuff here during the time that they're working. So, nobody really wants to do nights (even though I'm actually kind of liking it) and the newest hires typically get stuck doing them. My job during regular times is basically a word-processing job, but during the outage, I work in the warehouse getting parts for jobs going on inside the workings of the plant. It's a pretty laid-back job and interesting when things get busy. I work with some awesome people, too, so that helps. There are also a few cute boys who come in and get me all frazzled.

OK, I gotta get back to work. Will probably check in late tonight or early Sat morning.

    Gotta love these hours...
  • hi girls,
is everyone ready for the weekend?
jess - i hope you're feeling better. do you have to do night shift over the weekend as well? i guess the overtime/shift allowance makes it easier to bear.
kim - hooray on your new car! i don't have one cos you really don't need one living in london. but i do want one some day. at the moment i just get really excited whenever i get in one cos it always feels like ages since i have (drunken taxi journeys don't count)!! how sad am i?!
jenl - enjoy your massage. i'd love a professional one. must drop hints to BF for my birthday in july! it's my mum's 60th this weekend so my sis and i got her a voucher for a facial (along with lots of other stuff - my sis was in charge and boy can she spend!).
lexxy - the bloke does sound a bit odd. i'm quite anti-smoking so that would put me off him. but i'd just play it by ear and see how it goes. you say you don't find him attractive. do you fancy him? i'd have thought it was kind of essential to a relationship...
speaking of smoking - anyone heard from kay? kay - hope you've managed to keep off the ciggies! what are you up to?
rina - hope your uncle recovers soon. and that you get your car back!
KT - i used Piz Buin Foam on my legs. and it has worked pretty well. it only takes 5 mins to dry which is a definite plus. it's not tinted so i reckon it takes a bit of practice to ensure you don't end up with white patches. but it hasn't streaked! i'd love to get a spray-on tan but i can't afford it. last year i got a st tropez tan applied in the salon. it was great, but you have to get it done so frequently it would cost a fortune.
stacey - we miss you being online as well. internet police are evil.
so is anyone going to be in the UK this year? i'm sure some folk mentioned it....i can show you all the best places to eat and drink!
big hello to everyone else, i gotta do some work. hope you all have a great weekend. i won't be back online till the 27th (off to scotland for this sailing trip) - unless i get some free time later on today.
    kirsty
  • where is everyone today?
hope you all have a good weekend, i'm off in about 15 mins. all UK flights got delayed cos of some air traffic control problem today. hopefully ours won't be too delayed, if so my credit card is going to take a battering in the shops!!
  • Hi everyone!

This will be quick. It's Friday, so of course I'm busy. I had hoped for a slow day so I could write a feature story and get out at a decent time, so I could pack for my trip to Florida. (I think I've mentioned it: BF and I are driving down to visit my parents and get some sun for a week!) Anyway, there was a murder last night, which means that has become my story of the day. So I guess the feature will have to wait until I get back, because I'm NOT going to work on vacation.

Can I tell you all ... I love my new car. It's so fun to drive! Still getting used to this keyless entry thing. I had to jingle the lock of my old car for about a minute before it would open!

Hi Jess, Kirsty and everyone lurking or about to post! Kirsty, your trip sounds fun! Have a great time!

Well, better run. I'll try and pop back in later. Come out everyone!

PS I have to share this picture. It's my two dogs and BF. That's Stella's face, and Toby is licking Brian.
  • Good afternoon ladies! It is quiet in here today!!

Jess ~ I feel for you and your job. Very demanding. I am all too familiar with planned outages. My DH (as we have discussed before) is actually a boiler operator. Don't know if nuclear PP's have those (since he works in a coal fired PP). Hang in there. My DH doesn't mind 2nd and 3rd shifts, but likes them better when they don't switch every week or two, it takes several days to get into the flow of being nocturnal!!!

Kirsty ~ Have fun this weekend, I am sure I already missed you though!!

Kim ~ Love the pic of the dogs and bf!!! Our lab puppy is 5 months old now and 60 pounds!! We love him! Have a great vacation as well!!!

Lexxy ~ I remember your post from yesterday. You are a busy girl! Keep up posted on the "male friend"!

Jen ~ Glad you got a wonderful gift. I think a massage for a gift is an awesome one, better let DH know that!

JenK ~ How is the running coming? I was off yesterday, didn't post my journal, better get back at it today!!

Hi Trish! And, a big "HI!!!!!" to everyone I missed or is lurking!!!

DH and I closed on our construction loan yesterday and had to meet with the builder. I think we have almost everything hammered out. They will start digging in a couple weeks. I feel very poor right now!!!!

Eating wasn't good yesterday, we were on the road the whole day (running here and there), so I had McD's for lunch and pizza for supper, not good!!!

I will be better from now on though!!!

Well, better eat my lunch. Turkey wrap, and a diet snapple lime green tea (really good!!)

    Later!!
  • Did I just see Diet Snapple Lime Green tea - that sounds sooo good. I hope we get it in Canada.

I've got a strange problem. I've been getting hives. I get them on my hands and feet mostly but sometimes on my neck or belly. We've been trying to determine the cause so I stopped eating all fresh fruit for 4 days and had no hives - scary thought!! So yesterday I ate some canteloupe and I had hives
When I was going over my food, I realized that I had also not eaten chocolate for those 4 days and yesterday had a rice krispie square with chocolate on it (PB and Choc. - 2 pts) It looks like this might be a reaction to CHOCOLATE!! I'm almost 28 and have been eating chocolate my entire life - any insights anyone. I'm going to stay away from it for a week and then try again.

Well I hope everyone is doing well today - I can't type well with my fingers swollen. Have a great weekend
    KT
  • KT maybe it is a residue on the fruit that is doing it to you. Even Cantalope has residues and when you cut it, the knife drags through the fruit. WASH very thoroughly all your fruit and veggies and see if that helps!

I ate something the last night in Vegas and woke up in the middle of the night sick and with hives. It was aweful, especially since we had to fly early in the morning.

    TGIF!!! I am munchy today!
  • Hey everyone! Well, I have been having a bit of a mixed bag lately, dietwise. Home with my parents for the week, which means not as much walking around built into my schedule, so I am having to plan it all out and that is a PAIN!!! Much easier when it is just, "oh, well, I have to walk up to north campus at least 3 times today so that's a little over 4 miles walking, sounds good". Or having to walk a mile and and half each way to get groceries. Also, I got this book out of the library the other day, "The Origin Diet." Anyone read it? It's not really a super specific diet, more like a general eating guideline (less processed food, more whole fruits and veg, etc.) Anyway, I thought I would try to incorporate some of it into my eating. So far I am eating a lot more fruit and veg, but I am still craving chocolates. Urgh!

KT- Hmmm! Sounds like it could be cantaloupe or chocolate! Sometimes I secretly wish I would acquire a horrible chocolate allergy, to keep myself from eating it. Also a fried food allergy, an ice crean allergy, and a no-exercise allergy! Oh well....

Jen- Lucky you, getting to go for a massage! My mother and I sometimes kick back and give each other facials and manicures and whatnot if I'm home for the weekend and my dad and brothers are away.

Kirsty- Have fun sailing! Hope you packed the right kind of shoes! You'll have to let us know how it goes

Lexxy- mmm, boys! You must keep us updated
