Thursday's Daily Thread

  • hi all,
    just getting the thread started!
    kirsty
  • me again!
i went to WW today and picked up my second gold star. i'm all happy and remotivated to stick to being healthy for another year! we're having friends round for dinner tonight but i don't think i'll be drinking (shock, horror i know!) and i'll go easy on the cheese and guacamole (we're going to have fajitas - yum).
ooh, and last night a really cute little cat came to visit our flat! we heard her miaowing outside the front door, so i opened it and she came rushing in! v cute with huge eyes. BF named her jenny (no idea why) so i decided i'd call her jennifer! i'm hoping she becomes a regular visitor cos then we get a cute pet without any hassle!!
right, i should go do this work thing. how is everyone else doing?
    kirsty
ps congrats on the losses that have been going on - keep it up!
  • Good morning Kirsty! Congrats on your second gold star! That is great! I laugh whenever you comment on your drinking because I have the same issue! I have decided that I really need to try to watch what I eat more, since I don't really want to cut out the drinking (I'm sure that sounds terrible!)

As for me, sorry I haven't been around much lately. I have been lurking a bit and I will try to be by more often. I started taking cooking classes last weekend and learned how to make poached salmon and potato pancakes, which I have since made at home. I love the classes and it is so much fun learning new techniques!
This weekend, I have an open house at one of the law schools I applied to. It really has made me realize how close I am to being a student again after 7 years out of college! yikes!
I also am trying to sublet my apartment to move into a bigger place, so my life has been quite hectic (but fun!)

    Have a great day!
  • Almost Friday!
Jen: How did your date go?
Kirsty: Awww, a kitty? I love kitties and puppies!
Mine is getting spayed tomorrow. I'm not worried about her, I'm worried about me. At least the vet has a policy that the animals stay overnight after a major surgery. That way, he can monitor any problems they might have. That makes me feel better anyways.
I guess I'd better get back to work. Boss is on a rampage about us coworkers talking too much then she parks her rear in my office and wants to chat! Go figure! I'm not in a chatty mood.
    Back to work for me
  • Kirsty - congrats on your gold star. That is so awesome. Also way to go on no guacamole. I LOVE guacamole!!! I'll never be able to give that up... I'd much rather give up cheese.

Jen - that's awesome going back to school. Law school, eh? My two best friends are in law school and stressing out big time. I'm so bad, I'd rather cut out the alcohol then the food. But sometimes when I just want to go out and have a good time, I go all out. I'm having a party in February, and so I decided I'm going to drink for that. We'll see if I can go that long!

So, last night wasn't so bad because we never made it out to dinner. A bunch of my coworkers and I decided to get together for drinks and appetizers before going out to dinner. Funny part was, eveyone was drunk by 7:30 and we never made it out to dinner. Which was fine because we were all full on cheese, pepperoni, crackers, graped and carrots. So I tried to estimate how much I ate... and I had saved 15 points for dinner, and I used about 15-18 points. So I may hae been over by 3 points... so good thing we never went out to dinner!!!!

  • lisa - isn't it awful how quickly nibbles add up to being a huge number of points! do anyone remember ages ago i posted a poll asking what was the most number of points you have consumed in a day? during my student days i must easily have put away a daily min of 40/50, going up to 150 on a big night out! sheesh!!! can anyone go higher?!
oh, i won't say "no" to gaucamole, but i will keep it to a minimum. luckily BF and the male friend that is coming are big eaters so if i hold back a few minutes i won't have any choice on how much i get!! i reckon i'll try and keep pace with my female friend cos she isn't a big eater. top tip for the day, copy the eating habits of someone that's naturally slim. last time i did that i ended up eating a lot slower and found i was fuller quicker. i just can't do it on my own though!!! ah well, at least i'm trying.
jen - maybe you and i should go sign up with AA now that we've got the hang of this WW thing?!
stacey - your boss is weird. hope everything goes well at the vets!!
    time to post this, kirsty
  • Hey Ladies!

I have been doing well, with the weight training and the fact that I am in one of my "up weeks" <week number 2 and 3 of the pill do that to me, especially week #2>, I lost 4lbs since my last weigh-in and my clothes are feeling much better. I am still about 5-6lbs away from what I consider my ideal (142-145), but I am glad the 4 is now the middle digit of my weight! I have been exercising a lot as well. I didn't yesterday, but I walked the 15-20 mins to work and ended up working a from 11am - 9pm yesterday (I was basically on my feet the WHOLE time). So I guess I can consider that exercise right?

Other than that I have been trying to keep my points under 25 points a day, it seems to be working. I am going to dinner with a friend of mine on Saturday and it's a restaurant I know I can eat healthy at so that's good (chicken brochette and rice comes maybe at most to 15points so It's a good alternative if I keep my points low the rest of the day).

JenK: yeah, I am looking at Law Schools to apply at too. I have started studying for the LSATs and I think I'll take them in June. I will most likely look at U of Victoria, U of Calgary and U of Ottawa as well as maybe McGill (that's a really hard one to get into) and Western. The only US school I am considering is the University of Vermont.

Kirsty: congrats on the gold star!!

Lisa and Kirsty: I must have been eating at least 50-60 points on a normal day before I got serious with the weight loss thing.... I know it's easy for me to go overboard, I know I'll always have to be careful. It's funny though, I can't stand most potato chips now since they're so laden in fact (except for pringles, they're not that greasy). I have become a carbs freak recently though (bad me).

Stacey: at my work, they were getting at us for being chatty before Christmas, they have so relaxed it now, then again we're generally done all of our work wellbefore closing since retail is dead in Januray!

    Take Care Y'All!

  • Hi everyone, I'm back again!

Yesterday was supposed to be my last day. They told me the first week of January that it would be but that they would call to check. When they heard someone wish me well yesterday they flipped and phoned my office who told them I was on contract until friday - They could have phoned before yesterday. The lack of management in this office is something I won't miss at all. And today is the perfect day to ride and I won't be off until dark - AAARRRGH! I guess I just have to focus on the money.

Well, they're keeping a close eye on me today so I better not type too long. They'd rather have me sit still than surf the internet.
    Later everyone

  • HAPPY LATE BDAY RINA!!!!
Hi Girls, still at home, but doing work from home today, so that's a little better!!

Rina, happy birthday yesterday...I don't know why your name didn't have the balloons by it....did you have your bday in your profile?? I am not sure how that works. I hope it was happy!!

Kirsty and Jen2 - HA! I am not a big drinnker, but I drank at least 10 points a day when I was in the Maritimes!! But the funny thing is, I didn't gain weight? I maintained. It was v. good....I remember when my sister became a "bar babe" and was drinkign lots and eating those hot dogs after the clubs closed and she gained like 30 lbs in a year.....I personally think it was the hot dogs....

jen - Law School!! I have always toyed with the idea, either education or law...not sure...

Kirsty - woo hoo on your gold star!! You are such an awesome inspiration...lucky for me guacamole makes me violently ill, though I love it. Avacado is a trigger for my tummy troubles...!! Wine, however, and gin and tonic, is not.

Lisa - Those snacky foods add up fast, eh? Good for you for saving 15 ponts for diner. I seem to only ave about 10 to my minimum by mid-day....which is no good. Mental note, must change that..!!

Stacey - poor kitty!! My female dog did much better than my male dog when they got fixed. Poor guy wondered where his endowment went on him!! His legs now rub together b/c there is nothing to stop them..! I hope kitty does well!!

Lisa Kirsty and Ali - before Istarted on WW, I counted what I'd eaten the day before. It was like 67 points...I was SHOCKED. THings like the sugar in my coffee, etc. A lot of it was beverages. You don't think beverages are as high in points as they are, eh?

Since I've been sick I drink GALLONS of OJ, at 2 points a glass...some days like 20 points to OJ b/c I am drinking about 2 litres a day. But, I am sick, its okay...and I have lost weight since I've been ill, so I am not worried about all the OJ.

KT - weirdos...I hate poorly managed places. Hope they don't catch you

KIM - Hey - glad to hear that b/f/work is better. I heard of a shooting as well in Roanoke. Living with b/f is awesome....its improved our relationship so much. He is very attentive, but we do our own things as well. the best part is that I know I'll sleep with him at night (nothing dirty, just nice to be near him, you know). He has been great thorugh my infection too - he took a day off work to take care of me, and has been cooking and tending to me. He tells me I am pretty even though I look disgusting (I really do, it's horrific). I feel so lucky to have a guy like him. I am glad that I took this risk. We do quirrel now and again, well, only twice, and it was about the ex, but we worked it out rather than letting it fester, so its been a big improvement.

    Well, back to work....

BTW I am on Biaxin for my infection - its really hard on your stomach, but seems to be working for my sinuses. Cough is still horrid though....

  • Just thought I'd drop in say hi to everyone...

Not much going on here, kind of blew it yesterday (I think maybe I just subconsciously must make myself do it once a week). There was some big important conference thing where they had a big build-your-own-super-sinful-nacho bar thing. I held back a little bit, but I still wish I could have said no. I did an extra round of aerobic exercise at the gym last night to kind of make up for it.

Tonight, I'm getting Greek from my favorite restaurant. I kind of guessed at the points and will manage to stay in my point range if I don't eat anything other than what I have planned, which isn't a whole heck of a lot.

Speaking of Greek food, I'm going to post a recipe (if I remember to) for a really awesome sauce stuff that's made with yogurt and is SOOOOO good (for you gyro eaters, it's a recipe for tzatziki sauce).

So, that's my day. I hope everyone is having a good one and I'll see each of you tomorrow (which is, mercifully, Friday).

    Bye!

    Jess
