Well, it's official. I'm an adult now.
Yeah, I know, most 42 year-old married mothers with a career are usually considered adults. Until today, I wasn't recognized as one by my sister. I was born into a family with a 40 year-old mother, 45 year-old father, 16 year-old sister, and 13 year-old brother. By the time I was 7, my siblings were married, and I essentially had three sets of parents. My parents passed on a long time ago, my brother leaves me alone, but my sister insists on butting into my life. She second guesses everything I do and is very critical of me. I am not a confrontational person, and have been putting up with it. Tonite I told her to knock it off. I reminded her how old I am and what I've accomplished on my own. I told her to stop criticizing me. I didn't get an apology, but now that I've stood up for myself, she will no longer have the same power over me. It feels really good. |
Evening Ladies,
Summerrr glad you stood up for yourself. It sure does feel good when you do doesn't it? Are you feeling better after your bout with your TOM yesterday? Miss Mermaid, hope your eating was good today. Sorry to hear that you were feeling well yesterday. As for my dh, is not working anywhere at the moment. He draws disability social security. When he was six months old he had a stroke and it damaged the right side of his body. He did work for Kenworth for several years. Then his ex-wife wanted too much child support and he would have only worked for $80 every two weeks. So he went back to drawing his disability. He is able to get a part time job and still get his disability. He had one at the city pool until the manager and his friend told him that he had to cut the budget at the pool and let him go. So he is waiting to hear from some applications. Ginger I only had time to go run into town long enough to weigh-in and come back home. But I did lose 2 1/2 pounds. So I was pleased with that. My dh decided to get drunk on his birthday which was Monday and I had to take care of him all day yesterday. On top of that his one son got lost on us. He asked to go to the neighbor boy's house and they took off and went to the woods to ride their bikes. So I had a nice little hike up this steep hill and into the woods looking for him in a pair of flip flops. I was never so glad to hit the pillow with my head last night. Did you have to work today? If so, did you get your walk to and from work in? What route do you have during the summer? Well I think this little chickie is going to go and hit the sack early tonight. We had a birthday party to go to this evening. The heat, mouthy kids and me just didn't mix very well this evening. I will chat with you all tomorrow. Have a great evening! Kerry |
Morning!
Summerrrr- congrats on joining adulthood. Gee, I have known you for a while- had no idea that your family structure was that way. I know many who have had similar situations, and with the large age gap in my family, I often wonder if there will be similar in my household. Anyway, you have done so much with yourself, and turned into a wonderful human being. I hope that your sister finally sees that. You have to choose (which you have done) not to accept others nonsense that you are still a child. If others choose to remain in the 1960's of their evaluation of you, it is their loss. Kerry- congrats on your loss! Gee, I can say the same for you- I had no idea about your history (actually Dh's either). Now knowing even more about the why's of what happens in your household helps me put it in perspective. And thru it all, you are a great woman too! To the last but not least wonderful woman here.......Ms Mermaid. I will PM you once I get the time. Off to a hair appt this am- my one thing I do for me. Hope the lousy headache and bachache are gone. Did you enjoy your "Saturday"? Hope it was great.........I really do. Got a 1 mile walk in this am. Crum, it is hot. I hate hot weather. My eating was ok- did great until late and then, did some stupid stuff. But I had 5 ap's for yesterday, so perhaps I am ok..... I stepped on the scale and it was not pretty. Oh well. Gotta go....have a great day! Ginger |
Morning Gals,
Just a quick note before I head off to the hospital with DH. When he was drunk on Monday night and Tuesday, he hit his head. He is complaining of headaches and has a goose egg on the side of his head. So I finally convinced him to let me take him to go and get it check out today. So I hope everyone has a great day! I will check back in with you all later. I will keep you posted. Take care, Kerry |
Well we just got back from the hospital. They said that it is just bruised and that it is healing. So that is good news! So now I can go and finish mowing the yard. This evening we are suppose to go to one of the neighboring fairs to see my dh's friend in a horse pull. So I guess it is like a date, since it is just me and him. I will chat with you all later. Hope everything is well with you all.
|
I did get my workout in by finishing the yard. It was a very hot day out there. Maybe it helped push me harder to get it done in 30 minutes. I am off to go take a shower now. I had to cool off a little bit. My dh had the nerve to tell me I stink. How rude! LOL Check back with you all later.
|
Went to the doctor.... not strep.... on new medication for migraines. 5 day headache is gone after 3 hours on bed with new pill! viola!
now I'm behind with everything. Must drag fat fanny up and go forth! Glad to see that everyone is moving and doing well! Kerry, Congrats on those pounds lost! You must be a saint! I would have been tempted to give that DH of yours a lump on the other side of his head! Telling you that you stink after doing the yard! Nerve! :) Gin, no PM about that trip yet! I'm sure your hair is looking beautiful! Did I tell you girls that I've given up coloring my hair? I have many natural, um, "highlights" now.....someday I will grow accustomed to looking like my mother. YIKES! Summer, welcome to adulthood! Yahooo for standing up to sisters! Hope you have remained energized by your confidence boost! Mannnnnnnn, is it hot outside today. Returned from teh doctor and have been in my bedroom ever since... I must DO something now that my head is feeling better! Type to you all later! :) take care, |
Mermaid: Glad you are better...3 days in bed with a migraine is horrible. It was fun chatting with you even though the topic wasn't pleasant.
Ginger: Thanks for the validation. It is funny how good I am at standing up for my child, husband, students, friends, and coworkers, yet I have trouble standing up for myself. I wish it didn't take 42 years for me to speak my mind to my sister, but better late than never. Kerry: God, you are tolerant. Does your DH have any idea how good he's got it being married to you? You are a gem. I had too many cosmopolitans on my 40th birthday, and while I spent the next day sick in bed, nobody took care of me...instead, I got one **** of a guilt trip. It also made me think about the example I was setting for my DD, and since then, when I'm drinking and enjoying myself, I stop when I feel myself lose control, and obviously I would never drive drunk. Kids learn a lot more by what they see than what they hear. Today we shopped at Target for DD. (Gap and Gymboree are no longer in my budget!) She got Hello Kitty sneakers with hot pink glitter stripes, Barbie pink metallic boots (what a trolop!), black patent leather Mary Janes, an Aly & A.J. shirt, a pink jewelled t-shirt, and a pink floral skort. $70 later, we were done. I figure if I had gotten all of these items where I used to shop, I would have spent double! I'm learning... Eating was pretty darn good, but it was too hot to exercise. The air quality is really bad, and my lungs aren't handling it very well. That is what happens when you live downwind from NYC. Have a lovely evening one and all. |
GOOD MORNING people!
My DH "accidentally" woke me up this morning as he left at 6:45 to find out what we will be having for dinner tonight. NOW, I'm wide awake and not ready to move. I worked last night in our attic (my ongoing project!) and I made noticeable progress! In a bit I will be meeting a gal who I give all of the boys outgrown clothes to! She has 3 boys! I've been doing this for many years! I love that the clothes get more use and she seems to love to receive our hand-me-downs! Knowing that it is going to those 3 kiddos allows me to part with some of our "treasures" a bit more easily! Kerry, glad to hear that your dh's injury is healing and doing better! When do you have to return to school? Tell me about that Leslie WATP workout that includes jogging.... I've wondered how / what / etc... ?? Ginger, your last post made me smile! You always make me smile! I'm going to try to prevent a headache today by taking an antihistamine (as recommended by my doctor.) So, headache free, I've got to be up and doing! I will be taking the boys to visit my parents this morning! Did I tell you girls that my mother is going to have both knees replaced the DAY before I must go back to work? NOT the best timing......and it has me both worried and upset..... My sister is also a teacher and has to go back to work the day OF the surgery... so, um.... Summerrrr, as always, it was a pleasure to REALLY talk with you! Altho, I can't believe that you had the NERVE to say that I have some southern accent! HA! Can ya'll believe THAT?! LOL You should HEAR southern and it isn't lil ole ME! DH's pizza last night was outrageously wonderful! I ate 1 slice more than I should have.... BUT no meats! AND I didn't have any snacks or binging after eating in an attempt to make up for it! He makes a smaller pie with whatever I want on it.... Plain cheese was my request yesterday..... (and NOOOO, I didn't eat the whole pizza! BUT I could have!) (Actually, my eating yesterday was fairly good!) Well, I think I'm going to get ready to leave to give those clothes away and when I return, I will already have shoes on..so I may as well just go ahead and see if Leslie is still excited to see me! I find it so darn hard to fit in exercise.... as always! My mom will be calling soon to see what time I'm heading over.... SO. My day is gonna be FULL! :) Hope yours is full too... and with good choices and control with your intake! Move your fannies, girlies! (and I DON'T have a Southern accent! :) :) :) ) take care, meeeee |
Mermaid: Welllll girrrrrllll, youuuuu suuurrrre doooo haaaave a southerrrrrrn aaaaaccent!;) But, I must say, I understand everything you say, unlike some very countrified people I've heard. I know there are some very thick accents in the deep south which are completely tough for northerners to comprehend. You just have a cute twang to yours. Up here in CT, we enunciate very clearly, don't you think;) unlike my Longgg Islanddd neighbors! My school secretary has the most obnoxious accent. She is like a caracature. My old aide had a Brooklyn accent that I would try to imitate. I wish I had a cute accent like you, Mermaid. What does Ginger sound like? Does she have a NY accent?
Mer: I can really relate to your friend receiving the clothing. When DD was a baby, a well-to-do woman from church gave us her daughters' clothing from the first 3 years of their lives. Some was junky and quickly got donated to Good Will, but the majority was gently worn and from beautiful stores like Gymboree, Gap, and Hannah Andersson. Each outfit had matching printed socks or tights, hats, etc. We were soooooo grateful. She was thrilled to clear out her attic. They moved, and unfortunately we didn't benefit from their hand-me-downs after that. You really are doing a wonderful thing for that family. Ginger & Kerry: I hope you are enjoying this spectacular summer weather. My eating and exercising is on track. DD is having a friend over to swim today. I have an awkward situation that I'd like to run by you all. About a year ago when DD was in cheerleading camp, DD introduced me to a set of twins she had befriended and their mom. The mom and I spent a couple of days watching our daughters cheer, became acquainted and fast friends. We had some fun play dates during the summer. When fall came, we had a couple of play dates, but many were cancelled because of one or both of the twins getting sick. These girls got sick a lot, and they got weird stuff, not your run-of-the-mill colds and viruses. Whatever they got, it was a rare illness. They never made it to DD's birthday party or the play date we planned for Christmas break. My new friend and her DH did make it to a holiday party, and we had a great time together. In the new year, my new friend confided in me that they were having serious money problems. I told her about mine and we bonded over our personal stories. The thing is, she and I would talk about very personal things, would get really close, and then she would become unavailable to me. She wouldn't return phone calls or emails for weeks. Then she'd have some crazy excuse and we'd get together again. This kept happening during the school year. In June, my friend and the twins came over for lunch and to swim. We had a blast and two weeks later we attended the twins birthday party. Again, lots of fun. Midway through the party, I started to feel like my friend was becoming stressed. When we were done with cake, everyone was relaxing with drinks while the kids played. She didn't say so, but I felt like she wanted everyone to leave. So, I went to her to say, "Goodbye," and she seemed relieved. Nobody else got her mood and stuck around. Since then, we spoke only once. She said they'd be available by mid-July to get together. She was going to have to turn in her car and would no longer have transportation. Her husband had his truck for work and she could walk to her job. I offered to come to her for "get togethers." I tried so hard to be supportive. Since I spoke with her in the beginning of July, she is back to not returning phone calls or emails. I don't know how to be friends with someone who runs hot and cold like this and shuts me out. She confides personal stuff, I try to be supportive, and then she disappears. Part of me wants to write her off. Part of me wants to try to understand. But I don't understand. This morning at 9am she sent me a forwarded email with a prayer in it. I read it 30 minutes after she had sent it and forwarded it to my friends. I quickly replied to her hoping I would catch her at her computer. She didn't respond. I called her, but the machine answered. What the heck am I supposed to do? HELP! |
Where did everyone go? Summerrrrr, I'll PM my opinion on your "issue" as you mentioned in the previous post! Spent the day with my parents and sons. The. ENTIRE. DAAAY. Didn't mind it until I returned home and the house didn't magically clean itself. Dang.
Hugs, ya'll! meeee |
Morning Ladies,
Sorry I was MIA yesterday. Had a lot going on. I had to sort and bag my Avon orders. Then deliever a few of them. Stop and get my 3 day paycheck from the h@## hole. Go to the bank on my gas fumes, get gas, go to the library, pick up my new Avon books, get a wedding card and gift card and then take my two stepson's out for lunch with me. We went to Bob Evans. It was good. I had a Hertiage Chef Salad. But boy did it do a number on my tummy the rest of the day. Had dessert of Strawberry Shortcake. Came home only to be home 30 minutes and have dh come rushing in the door only to tell us we needed to hurry up and get ready. We had to drop the kids off to their stepdad. Then we had to go get my dh something to eat since he hadn't eaten all day. Then it was off to the wedding reception of my co-worker. But as usually because it was something I wanted to do, we got into a verbal match on the way there. Got there and only stayed for 2 hours. Just long enough for him to hurt my feelings. There was a slow love song on and I asked him to dance with me. He said no, he didn't feel like it. But when we go out with our friends, if the ladies ask him to dance with them he is like sure and goes to dance with them. Then he had to compare his wedding reception with my co-workers. We didn't have a wedding reception because that was something he didn't want. All we had was a small cememory at the church with his three kids, his mom, my brother and sister-in-law,the minister and his wife. So I never did get to have the wedding of my dreams. Sometimes this bothers me. I guess hearing about the great wedding and wedding reception of the ex's and his last night did it in for me. Then he went to bed early on me and hogged the bed. So I grabbed my pillow and slept on the couch. Only for him to wake me up at 6:30 and tell me to go to bed. But he did his darnest to wake me up by making all kinds of noise getting ready for the day. He left around 8 to go run errands. So I slept until 10. Now have to think about doing a workout here shortly. Sorry for ranting and raving. Summerrr I am still thinking about your little problem. Let me get back to you on it okay. Ginger how is the new hairdo? Miss Mermaid sounds like you had a nice day with your parents and boys. Sorry to hear that house cleaning fairy didn't appear while you were gone though. Well I better go and get my big fat butt moving around for the day. I will try to check back in with you all later. But it is hard to do when my dh hogs the computer for long periods of time when he is home. God forbid if you ask him to use it when he is on it! Have a great weekend! Take care, Kerry |
I did have a walking date with Lesile and the gang! It went well feel much better.
Miss Mermaid I think you asked me a couple days ago about the walk/jog dvd. Leslie starts you out walking and then you jog in place for about 2 minutes and then go back to walking for 3 minutes or so. You do this four or five times during the dvd. It is really good. Gets you sweating and makes you feel great afterwards. She also has one of the ladies do it low impact in case you don't feel right away that you can do the jogging part. I would highly recommend it. Hope that helps you! |
Hello! What a day! Holey moley was this an incredibly hot and humid day here in my part of Virginia! Barely able to spend any time making progress on my attic cleaning project. Even now at 7:15, it is still way too hot up there to go up yet. Usually after dinner, I can begin working up there. Not tonight! I tried to do a WATP tape. My head began to pound again after only about 15 minutes. I stopped as I don't want to have a headache for 5 days like before! I laid down on our bed in the dark quiet room and the headache went away within just a few minutes! I don't want to take that prescription medicine unless I can't get the headache to go away.... I am pretty sure that this is weather or "pressure" related!
Spent several hours working on a written project for my friend. I'm, in my opinion, done! Waiting to hear from her for editing and her opinion! My eating has been well controlled and I'm working on finishing my water for the day! Watching what the boys have on the tv.... discovery channel...evidently it is shark week! YIKES! I've got to leave the room or I will never put a toe in the ocean again! Well Kerry, sure sounds as if you were very busy yesterday! Hope that your Saturday has been much more calm! Sounds as if your time with your husband yesterday wasn't very fun. I *WOULD* have danced with you at the reception! :) Next time you all are out and he is dancing with all the others, make sure you cut in and get your dance! (((hugs))) Where is everyone else?! Hope you are off having great weekends! (I sort of forgot that this is Saturday.... for us it is Tuesday!) Ya'll take care! Will check in later! meeeee |
DD had a friend over to swim...one of the well-behaved friends, so I read my book while they played harmoniously in the pool for 3 hours. DD and I walked her friend home which was a good long walk, so that was my exercise for the day. DD got her first bad sunburn on her face, especially around the eyes even though she had on spf 30 waterproof and was wearing sunglasses. Just looking at her sunburn gave me a tummy ache. I can't stand to see my child feel any kind of discomfort. Never mind my mother who let her toehead blonde daughter (me) get so many sunburns wearing baby oil that I will probably have some skin issues later on. She would spray me with stinging solarcaine and tell me to get over it.
DH had to work at the arena for "The Wiggles" show all day till 7pm. He jumped in the pool when he got home, and we had bbq chicken, homemade low-fat mac & cheese, salad, and more frozen margaritas for dinner. We had s'mores for dessert and set off fireworks in the backyard. DD came in at 9:15to watch the Disney Games finale. We followed soon after at 9:45 cause we're pooped. Soon we'll hit the hay. Kerry: I think you should play a nasty trick on your DH the next time he's asleep. Maybe draw something embarassing on him with permanent marker. Or you could stick a banana in his tail pipe. You could substitute chocolate candy with ex-lax. If somebody was picking on me like he picks on you, I'd have to retaliate. By the way, I've had three margaritas, so I guess I shouldn't be taken too seriously right now! Still... Mermaid: Take care of your noggin'. Beware of high pressure systems.' Ginger: Hope your enjoying your time away from us. Goodnight! |
morning.
been up for over an hour now... DH had to be AT work by 6 am so his alarm went off at 4:30. I tried to tunr over and go back to sleep... but no deal. I didn't go to bed until after 2 so I'm VERY tired! forgot to say thanks for the video review Kerry! After yesterday I'm scared to consider more than a regular watp walk tape.... but i've often wanted to try the jog one! maybe I *CAN* sleep...gonna try! talk to you later! |
Hi Gals,
Hope are all rested from your busy Saturdays! It sure was hot in Ohio. It was 95 and very humid. Then we had rain and thunderboomers come through around 5 ish and cool things off for an hour or so. Then it was heating back up. We went to the fair with the boys last night. They watched the demo. derby and I went to watch some cutie pie named Adam Tucker sing. It was just a chance happening that he was there. I got bored watching the cars so I went for a walk and ended up listening to him for a long time. Plus people watching. Very funny! Today I am going to drive halfway bwt. my place and my sister's and have lunch with her. Then we might go and do a little shopping or take in a movie. So that is my plans for today. Miss Mermaid sorry to hear that you got another headache yesterday. Hope it is just heat related and they go away soon. I hope you were able to get some sleep too. Your welcome on the video review. Maybe once it gets cooler and you can give it a try. Summer sorry to hear that your dd has a bad sunburn on her face. How is she feeling today? Sounds like you had a nice relaxing evening last night. Hope you drank one of those marigritas for me. The one bar down here has them for $1.00 on Mondays. So I think before I go back to school I might be there on a couple of the Mondays for a few drinks. Loved your suggestions. I get him back when we are out in public with our friends and say little jabs at him. That way he can't retailate. Ginger hope all is going well for you. We miss chatting with you. I did eat good last night at the fair though. One small popcorn and a shaved ice strawberry flavored. Not going to tell you about eating at the China place before hand. Well I better go and get my fannie moving. I have to go and get my sdd at her grandma's since she wants to go with me. Get some money out of the bank and hit the road. Chat with you gals all later. Have a great day! Kerry |
Kerry: Glad you liked my suggestions. I have many more. I'll dispense them gradually over time so as not to overwhelm you with choices.;)
Ginger: Where in the heck are you? Mermaid: Sleep. I couldn't let DD go out in the sun today, because the sunburn didn't cool off as much as I hoped.:( So, I took her to see "Bratz" at the movies.:p I sooooo wanted to see "No Reservations" but with her feeling blue about being so pink, I gave in. "Bratz" was okay, but gosh it took a long time for it to end. It didn't help that there were a couple young mothers with very young children who were allowed to "run amok." These toddlers came and left the movie I assume to use the facilities alone and ran up and down the stairs. One duo even opened the emergency exit letting in the bright sunshine. I swear, I don't need to teach 4 year olds. They are actually quite independent. I need to teach their parents how to be parents instead. What are these parents thinking letting their little ones out of their sight?:?: DD (almost 10) still holds my hand wherever we go. I won't be around tomorrow. We are leaving at the crack of dawn to take the Long Island Ferry to visit my nephew and his new wife in Northport, L.I. We are supposed to go to the beach by their house. Unfortunately, it is supposed to be stormy tomorrow. So, I may be wearing my clear Disneyworld rain poncho instead of a bathing suit! Either way, we are going because DH took the day off, and since my nephew and his wife are chefs, Monday is their only real day off. I'll just think of it as an adventure!:p:rain: |
Evening Ladies,
Well my sdd and I went to lunch with my sister today. We went to Bob Evans. I was good and ate a Wildfire Chicken Salad. Then we went to the movies and saw Hairspray. What a great movie! Then on the way back to my sister's car we passed a Dairy Queen so we had to pull in and go inside for some ice cream. So now I am home. Trying to unwind and relax a little bit before the hetic week starts all over again. Summer sorry to hear that your movie experience wasn't a great one. You are so right about having to teach the parents and not the kids. Enjoy your trip to Long Island tomorrow. I hope it doesn't rain for you. Miss Mermaid did you get any sleep today? Did it cool off any for you? Ginger where are you honey? We miss chatting with you. Let me guess you were stuck at a baseball tournment this weekend! Well ladies I think I am going to go watch some tv and read my book. Chat with you all later. Kerry |
hiya!
up and preparing to face the day. must get oldest to his 6 hour marching band practice in a bit (yes, he is, um, lets call it excited!) must get youngest to his bass lesson at other end of our county right smack during the middle of the other's practice. such is the life of TaxiMom! Kerry, thanks for the movie review! I will add it to my list to rent when it comes out next year! Unless I can convince my friend to abandon her family ship long enough to go catch it some time this week... (after TaxiMom hours, of course!) Glad that you got to go out with your sdd and sister! What book are you reading currently? Summerrrr, I have to LOL. I saw the television commercial for that Bratz movie and instantly fell to my knees thanking the good Lord for my sons! I am sure that I would poke my own eyes out in an effort to prevent having to sit thru THAT movie! I will admit that I have endured my fair share of BBBAAADD children's movies; however, I'm so glad I never had to endure "girl tween" movies! I have seen EVERY Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Harry Potter *MULTIPLE* times. When we went to see the last Lord of the Rings movie at the theater....This was my ENDURANCE test. I had NO interest in it, couldn't keep the characters straight to save my life, the music and sound effects literally HURT my ears, spent the whole time (that I paid attention) confused and finally concentrated on eating my Sour Patch Kids body part by body part! I eventually cleaned out the contents of my purse by putting all the good stuff on one side and all the junk on the other. Yeah, good times! Quality family together time! Now that I have remembered all this, perhaps that Bratz movie wouldn't be SOOOO bad! :fr: I will refrain from commenting on the crazy lame parents who attended the movie at the same time you did, allowing their younger kids to treat the movie theater as a play ground. WHAT IS WRONG with people? ....AND THIS IS WHY OUR JOB AT SCHOOL is so darn difficult! (Oh, I wasn't going to comment on this.....) speaking of crazy parents..... Hey have you seen this Duggar family in the news? While their 17 children are cute. OMG! Home school, all names beginning with J, 10.5 years pregnant, mom says more. My uterus gave up that gig after 2. I have much respect for this mom! More power to them! Gotta go get moving! Ya'll have a great day! take care, meeee |
Morning Ladies,
Miss Mermaid I currently reading a book titled "To the Limit". It is a Nascar romance book. Unforunately I didn't get any of it read last night because my dh came home and we went into town to see a friend. So I am hoping to spend a lazy day today and read some of it. Sounds like you are going to have a busy day today. Enjoy yourself. Hope it is not another hot one today! Summer enjoy your trip to Long Island. I hope it doesn't rain for you all. Ginger hope this is a good week for you. Well I need to go and get myself moving for the day. Chat with you all later. Take care, Kerry |
Wow...it sure is lonely in here tonight! Hope that everyone has had a great Monday! Sure was hot here again....actually, as they say, it isn't the heat it is the humidity! Tomorrow is promised to be even hotter AND more humid. Even my "outside loving" doggie spent the day, for the most part, inside! VERY VERY unusual! Spent today driving this one here and this one there and then going to pick up that one and then finally this one! In between I did the grocery shopping, a bit of laundry, went to the library, and cooked dinner!
MomTaxi has to get Oldest to the high school for DrumLine and will make a run to drop off some boxes and stuff at my school. I've got quite a mound of school bound junk that I need to get out of the living room! I've not stepped foot in my classroom since the last day of school in June... so I have no idea of how the cleaning crew left it. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't have a stroke when I walk in there.... Listen shortly after noon, you may hear my reaction all the way in whatever state you are in! Hey Kerry, did you get your book finished? I had no idea that they had Nascar romance books! I am waiting, not very patiently, for the library to call to tell me that it is my turn for Lean Mean Thirteen ..... Meanwhile, I've just started Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas. Summer, hope your trip to visit your nephew was wonderful! Hope Lil'Miss Sunshine's face is looking LESS burned! Ginger, Ginger, Ginger where oh where has our Ginger gone? Hope all is going well for you and your family! You know that we miss you! Did well with my eating today. Not too good with water....but tomorrow will be another day! Worked to clean out a utility closet this evening. OMG what a MESS... I was working in the small closet leaning over attacking dust bunnies...or really being attacked by dust bunnies when I pulled something somehow. My back hurts all the way up into my neck. Seems like perhaps I will be forced to finish in this closet tomorrow! Heading to the shower! Take care, meeee |
Mermaid & Kerry: My library is lousy and doesn't have newish books. I'm waiting to find a few Evanovich books used on Amazon or at my used book store. Either way, I'm NOT paying what they are asking right now. I'm just finishing Jimmy Buffet's Where is Joe Merchant? It's a good book, but not as good as his next one. His Salty Piece of Land was outstanding. It even made me cry happy tears at the end.
Well the rain never came! We packed for every kind of weather except for cold...oops! forgot that travelling at night by boat is cold, duh!:( Planned with DH to wake at 6:30am and leave house at 7:45am. Woke at 6:20am and was in car at 7:45am with DH giving serious attitude. When I pointed out that I was on time and asked him why he was mad, his reply was "Can't you ever be early?!":dizzy: My reply was, "Well if you asked me to be early, I would have been early. Clear expectations pleeeeeeze!!!" What the f**k?!:?: His anxiety when we travel or celebrate a holiday drives me nuts. He acts like a jerk. I know it comes from a difficult childhood with an abusive father who made these things stressful for the family; but paleeze could we just once have an event without him behaving irrationally? Then when we were returning home, he had the nerve to complain that I was crabby as we waited on the dock in Port Jefferson for the 9pm ferry which wouldn't let us board until 9:30pm. I was tired, cold, and yes, a b**ch. I replied, "Now we're even. You weren't exactly charming this morning." It almost started a new fight, and frankly, I just didn't have the energy to argue. I let him say whatever and ignored him. We got home after 11pm.:p Aside from the travelling woes, we enjoyed our day. We went to the beach, went to town to have appetizers and cocktails (4 appetizers, 3 alcoholic drinks, & 2 soft drinks total) resulting in a $75 bill!!!:fr: That's New York for you. Can you imagine what it would have cost to go out for dinner?!!!!!:yikes: We toured the town, bought DD an embellished sweatshirt cause it was windy, and returned to their house to bbq and drink wine. It was a full day, but a good one. This morning I had to go to my gastroenterologist with a bit of a hangover.:headache: I took my last Nexium, ate an egg and WW English muffin with 2 cups of coffee, and downed 4 motrin. That helped.;) Then I had to plan my strategy. I knew I had gained since my last appointment, and I needed to approach it so that I wouldn't get "the lecture." So, since this is a male doctor, I knew I needed to show some assets.:D So, I found a low-cut black sundress that displays my ta ta's in a fabulous way. I showered with my coconut/mango body wash, used the coconut/mango lotion, applied my make-up and used bronzer in all the right places. My hair looked great. I left the house looking rather HOT:whoo: if I do say so myself! Next, I schmoozed the nurses.;) After we were all giggling about how although pina coladas are so yummy, they don't do much for our girlish figures;). Finally, after greeting the doctor, I told him about my horrific school year and how I gained weight from stress eating garnering his sympathy.:D When all was said and done, I got my Nexium renewed, slickly avoided another endoscopy, and was encouraged to call him ANYTIME I was feeling upset.:callme::rofl: Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Now if only I had this kind of power over women doctors... DD has a play date at a friends, and DH is home today. So my afternoon is a question mark. He'll probably try for an "afternoon delight!" ;) |
Ms Ginger is here.....but facing a busy week. Hope to be back later to catch up with everyone. I am not handling life too well at the moment, and need to readjust my thinking before I return. I'm ok- just had a tough day or two.
It is nice to be missed.... really I needed to hear that. Thanks, my friends. |
hot enough for you?
......way too hot today. Went with my mother and father to the informational class regarding her knee replacement surgery. Went around with them collecting the few remaining items that she will need to take with her. Exhausting.... and I didn't DO anything.
Stress eating a bit..... with my mom and dad... but it could have been worse! Ginger, missed you....and HANG in there! If there is anything that I can do to help, well, you know I owe you big! :) Let me know! Summer and Kerry: Hope you've had good Wednesdays! I was looking at the calendar (at that class) and the reality of August slipping away really hit me. SIGHHH! Everyone take care! Eat well....and be careful about the exercising with this heat! |
Oh My Goodness is it hot or what? It has been in the 100 mark the last two days in OHio. We have had to go to my MIL for the last two days to beat some of the heat. It sure has been nice to sit in a/c and read a book. I did finish To the Limit and now am reading a book called Baby Proof. It is about a lady who leaves her hubby after he decides he wants a baby after all.
I have been trying really hard to get my water in. So hopefully that will help me when I get on the scales next Tuesday. I haven't been able to workout since it has been so bloody hot. It was still 90 last night when we came home at 11 p.m. from the bowling alley. Miss Mermaid when does your mom have her knee replacement? Hope you have had a better day with your eating today. Does the oldest still have drumline this week? Miss Ginger glad to see that you are still alive. Hope things are slowing down for you a little bit. Hope your weigh in goes well this week. Summer sounds like you had a lovely time with your nephew and his wife. My dh is the same way before going on a road trip. Don't you just want to beat them over the head with something? Sorry your library is not up to par. Hope you are able to find good books at your used bookstore. I use to go to one back near my hometown. It was awesome. Then they had to close. Don't have any around where I live now. Well I better go and give the computer to my dh. I beat him to it when we came home. Maybe the hot weather will help me lose a couple pounds. Feels too hot to really eat anything. Had a big chef salad for dinner tonight. Have a great evening! Take care, Kerry |
heading to an orthodontist appointment and then to get the boys a few "back to school" clothes... they had the nerve to grow this summer! :)
stay cool everyone! take care |
TGIF! It sure has been a long, hot, humid week this week! I hope the heat wave has finally broken for awhile. I can't take much more of it.
Miss Mermaid enjoy your day school clothes shopping for the boys. How dare they grow over the summer. LOL That is like my three stepkiddos. The baby sure has shot up over the summer. I bet you by the end of this school year I will have to look up to him. Miss Ginger and Summer hope you enjoy your Fridays. Are you staying cool enough? I have to go and get my paycheck this morning and then go pay a few bills. Might have to think about going to the store and getting a few things like toliet paper and toothpaste just to mention the major items that we are going to shortly run out of. Hope you all enjoy your days! Chat with you later. Kerry |
3 digit heat
teens with attitudes and stomach aches crowded stores traffic stopped in all directions on all roads BLEECH! hope your day was better! |
Glad you survived your crappy day. I know that my stepkiddos had bad attitudes yesterday. In fact, I made the baby mad at me for making him work on his multiplication. Going into the fourth grade and doesn't even know his facts. So mean stepmommy that I am is making him learn them before school starts. I am enjoying a nice evening to myself. I watched the movie The Holiday. Very good. Now I am getting ready to watch Stomp the Yard. I even did laundry this evening. It is just nice to have the house to myself every once and in awhile.
Miss Ginger and Summer hope you had lovely days. The heat finally broke so it was bearable today. Maybe I can start thinking about working out again. Chat with you all later. Kerry |
Our weather was the opposite. :rain:Thunderstorms began Thursday night and didn't end till Saturday morning. Temps have been in the low 60's. Friday night, we had a bbq with new friends (parents of DD's friend). I had visions of us sitting out on the deck sipping pina coladas while the kids swim in the pool. Yeah right!!! I was pissed at first since I've barely entertained all summer, and all I wanted was a beautiful evening to roast marshmallows, make s'mores, catch lightning bugs, stargaze, and light some firecrackers. At some point, I decided to look at the glass as half-full. I decided to go with a "Tropical Storm Theme!" We have a closed-in porch with screens/windows where I already have my mother's old dining room set which we use when we want to avoid the mosquitoes. The only problem is that the other side of the porch has accumulated lots of crap. So, I spent Thursday and Friday clearing and cleaning the porch. We already have pretty plants in there, shells, a mermaid over the front door, pretty windchimes, and lots of pretty candles. Once the table was set, it looked really cool. I played Jimmy Buffet on my CD player, filled the cooler, and fired up the blender. DH bbq'ed shish ka bobs. I made rice pilaf and pina colada cake. My friend brought a salad and brownies. We ate, drank, and laughed all night. It turns out that the husband and I grew up in the same neighborhood, but since he's 5 years younger than me, I never knew he existed! But, we have so much in common coming from the same place. They both have a great sense of humor, and there were moments I had to take off my glasses and wipe the tears of hysterical laughter away. It has been such a long time since we had fun with both members of a couple. I have so many friends whose husbands I or DH can't stand. I hope we can continue to socialize with them and become real friends.
Today the sun is back and it is a scorching 66 degrees!:flame: I need to straighten up the house from last night, and if it warms up, maybe we can go in the pool later. My sister (whose marriage is falling apart) kicked my BIL out of the bedroom, and she got a new bedroom set with all the trimmings...gorgeous! Anyway, he couldn't fit all their old bedroom furniture in the guest bedroom, so I'm inheriting a desk (which DD jumped for), a bedside table, and a square glass/brass table which will become my new coffee table in my living room. I have to be civil with him because he is delivering it all this morning. It is so hard to be nice to someone who has ruined my sister's life. Tomorrow I'm hosting a Tastefully Simple party. It is supposed to be sunny, so I can host it outside. I have six confirmed guests. Three can't come but already placed orders. There are four people who never responded, and I'm just dumbstruck how rude people can be. I sent a "save the date" email, mailed an invitation, and followed up with email or phone call. Can you imagine ignoring all that?! Gotta go get dressed. BIL doesn't deserve the cheap thrill of me in my nightie! |
Summer sorry to hear that your weather was so crappy for the last few days. Sounds like you saved the day with the Tropical Storm theme party. You are so cleaver! Glad you had a great time with your new friends. I wish we had more friends that were couples that we could hang out with. Almost all of our friends are single or have girl friends. If they have girl friends goodness look out because they are usually the jealous type when I speak to their man or give their man a hug. Hope you are civil enough to your bil when he delievers the furniture.
Miss Mermaid and Ginger hope you ladies are having a fine weekend. I watched Stomp the Yard last night after I checked the computer. It was a really good movie. Then I read for a little bit. I was trying to stay up until my dh came home. But that didn't happen at 1 I finally went to bed. So I don't know what time he really got home. I think it might be a silent day at our house though. Because he left at 4 p.m. to go to a 6 p.m. football scrimmage that was 1 1/2 hours away from us. Then he was still out at 1 a.m. Dang that must have been some long football scrimmage, huh? Or the boys talked him into going to some bar afterwards. Let's see if he even attempts to spend time with me today. Well I better go and start making some noise to wake his butt up. Chat with you all later. Take care, Kerry |
Oh I am so mad right now. He finally woke up at 10:45 after I turned the tv on in the living room. Then he started acting all lovely dovely towards me. I told him to leave me alone. He had the nerve to tell me that I should have bought sugar yesterday for him since he was out. I said that wasn't my job since I don't use the stuff. That we could get it today when we went to the store. But no he said that he promised his ex-wife (whose weekend it is with the kids), that he would be at the end of the season pool party at our city pool if she would just drop them off. Well one of his boys called upset this morning that they were allowed to go now. Well come to find out they had a knock down drag out fight with fists and feet flying everywhere. So the boys were grounded for the weekend. So instead of taking her daughter into town and dropping her off, my dh volunteers me to go out and pick her up. I had errands to run. So I had to hurry up and go pick her up and take her to the pool. What really gets me is when you tell someone that you will be right there and they are not even ready. So I ran and did my errands. Call my dh to ask him when he will be home and I get the "I don't know, I guess when I get there answer." I guess I am just sick and tired of always being the one to save the day for everyone else. But I don't get any recognition for it, just crapped on all the time. I am sorry that I blew up like that, but I had to get it off my chest.
I got my work letter in the mail today. Suppose the building will be ready for us to come and start working in our classrooms on Aug. 16th. We have our staff inservice on the 21st. Our open house will be on Aug. 27th and school starts on Sept. 4th. So I guess I have to start thinking about school again. LOL Well hope you are all having a better day than I am. I think I might just go take a nap. His royal highness did tell me this morning we had to mow the yard sometime soon. I bet you any amount of money he picks tomorrow to mow it. If so, I am going to be mad. Because then we will not have any time this weekend to go do something just the two of us. Because on Monday it is back to watching the kids for the last week before they go to school on the 21st. Chat with you all later. Take care, Kerry |
Yesterday we went to Target and bought DD a desk set. There were no matching pieces that she liked, so we found brights by Isaac Mizrahi and others that we put together and kind of match. $67 later (:eek:EEK!) her new desk is functional, stylish, and she is thrilled. She wanted a desk lamp and cool chair on wheels, but the desk set broke the bank! We set her up in front of a window overlooking the backyard in the dining room, because I want to be able to cook dinner and help her with homework simultaneously. Since it is a nice piece of furniture, it fits in well enough.
I was pretty headachy from Friday's rum, so after Target sorting through her stuff, and setting up her desk, I was done. I wanted to clean, but it fell on me today. I don't feel like it, but my Tastefully Simple party is in a few hours. My sister's glass table is a perfect coffee table for us. We were using a small hope chest, but when DD was little, she wrote on it with pen. We were planning on buying a new one in a couple of years, but now we don't need to! Ginger, have a fabulous vacation!!! Mermaid, love ya baby!!! Kerry, September 4th?! Lucky girl!!! I start the 27th and get kids the 29th!!! Enough putting off housework. Wah wah wah... |
Summer hope you got your housework done and enjoy your party today. Have fun! Your dd's desk sounds nice.
Ginger and Miss Mermaid hope you are enjoying your weekend. My dh spent time with me last night. We went out to dinner, then went to my sil to visit her. While there we got a phone call from one of our friend's to come over to their house because they were hanging out on their back porch. So it was nice to hang out with a few married couples for a change. We stayed over there until 5 in the morning. They won't let us leave. Just stay a little bit longer. Our host should have a nice little hangover today. Atleast neither my dh or I drank over our limit. He had a couple beers and I had a beer and two fuzzy navels. So I don't have to worry about babysitting. Yeah! The reason our school starts so late this year is that they built 2 new elementary schools and the middle school that I will be working out of. They won't be done until midweek. So we can start going in on the 16th. Well I need to go and check something else out on the computer . Chat with you all later. Have a great Sunday! Take care, Kerry |
Hello ladies!
Sounds as if everyone has been busy and enjoying these last few days! Things here (CoconutTele) have been very quiet! I certainly hope that Ginger enjoys her family vacation! I will miss her while she is gone! Glad you got to spend time with your hubby, Kerry....and that you had fun! I love the location of your daughter's new desk, Summerrr! My guys do their homework (usually) at the kitchen table as that is usually where I am during homework time. They usually don't need my "help" so much as "direction".... Their attention is just like their mom's! Go figure! My metabolism is back to being a snail. If you remember, during the true heatwave, I had a bad experience while exercising..... and I have gotten out of the routine. Without the extra movement, I'm back to the scales not moving. While my eating is (for pretty much) in control and much less.... I was meant to be THE LAST FAT CHICK on the planet... famine? no problem, I have thighs and fanny! Sigh! How are ya'll doing with your eating / exercise plan?! I go back to school on the 24th. Mom has her surgery on the 23rd. Kids begin school on the 4th. (School always resumes the day after Labor Day in Va unless there is a waiver.... This is a tourism thing, really!) take care, meeee |
Mermaid: So you have a full week of professional development and meetings? We have two days of it, and they scatter PD throughout the year on half-days. I would rather get it in the week before and have some time in my room with the kids starting after Labor Day. But not since I was a child has school started after LD around here. What is funny though is that even though I already have students before LD, I still get a tummy ache in the evening on LD. I guess I have a conditioned response from childhood. I'm going to go in on the 23rd and 24th to do my bulletin board and get organized. In past years, I would go in as early as two weeks before, but since summer school wasn't using my classroom, I didn't put away much. But, since the custodian probably moved things around to shampoo rugs, I will surely have some stuff to do. I just don't want to give up anymore of my summer vacation than I have to. At least I will be in the same room all day now, so worse comes to worse, I can do stuff throughout the day when school starts.
My biggest stressor is that I am up for reaccreditation with NAEYC this year, I will have to do a self-study, and collect documentation to prove that I am complying with the requirements.:p It is a lot of work (waste of time) but at least I will be teaching one full-day pre-k this year giving me time while they are napping (hopefully they will actually sleep) to do paperwork. My job requires so much paperwork, but I have no office time built into the schedule. I don't know when they think I'm gonna do it all when I already have to bring work home for lesson planning. Last year I used center time to do documentation when I should have been working with small groups. I want to have time to actually TEACH this year! Phew! That was a mouthful. I think I'm gonna have to add WW online to my budget. I've gained back what I lost on WW in the spring. I thought I could go it on my own, but I was sadly mistaken. So that 9 lb. loss that you see in my signature is no longer valid.:p Last night's party was a success. I had 7 guests and 3 catalog orders from people who couldn't come. My sales totalled $350 so I will get to choose $35 worth of products. I've been considering becoming a Tastefully Simple Consultant (cause you all know how much free time I have!) but nobody booked a party. If three had booked, my consultant would have paid for my kit, I would have gotten free products all totalling $300, and I would have been able to begin my business. But she said that without a few guaranteed parties, I would have no way to start. Maybe I'll try again in the spring. Right now I should be concentrating on my two jobs, choir, and oh yes, my family! It is not very warm today, and the pool is cold from too many cool days & nights. So, I think DD and I will see a movie and venture outdoors tomorrow after the pool has had some sun shining on it. Have a great day! |
okay. I know that both of you have posted today; however, I can't read the messages right now... I'm a big baby. I have to get on the couch and get my foot elevated.
So... Here is my news. Gracefully, of course, I fell off my very short (less than 2 feet!) kitchen stool and fell into my open, bottom drawer pulled out, fully loaded dishwasher. I think that I have broken my second toe on my right foot as I jammed it to the point of an instant gigantic blue/purple bruise on the middle joint.... The whole toe is throbbing. KILLING me. My loving family laughed hysterically at my "antics". When I can walk without wincing, I'm gonna get them! :) (I am hoping and praying that I didn't do damage to my dishwasher! I was so afraid that I was going to land on that loaded silverware thingy...) This is my 2nd major accident in 5 days. I shut my finger in the dryer door last week. Had to open it to get it out. Talk about sucking in air forFREAKINGever! I couldn't even speak or scream! I have a very lovely purple middle finger nail! Graceful, elegant, talented..... and bruised! I hope you all had good days. I will catch up with you tomorrow! take care, meee |
Dear God Mermaid!!! OUCH!!! You poor thing. I think you are actually pretty lucky that you didn't get hurt more seriously, especially on something sharp. Don't be embarrassed about your accidents. I've been hurting myself doing stuff like that my whole life. It is why I'm so darn overprotective of DD. Take care, and feel better. At least it is sandal season...better than having to wear socks and sandals in the winter.:o
I went to the GYN for an ultrasound follow-up. There are nodules which are probably endometriosis which is the original cause of my infertility. But I have to go for another with a specialist in September just to make sure there isn't anything malignant. I will be having a mammo on Friday. I had called to make an appointment earlier in the summer and was told that I'm not due till January. Then my GYN says I've overdue. The scheduler had read the date wrong. So, I've got to get it NOW. :p I was lucky to get an appointment before school starts. And my ultrasound will be on Rosh Hashanah which I have off. My principal told me to handle all my medical needs over the summer so I wouldn't need to use personal days. B*tch!!! God forbid I need a hysterectomy. I can't join WW till I get paid again...not till 9/7. I got one lump sum payment in June and I will barely make it till school starts, so no extras right now. It doesn't mean I'm throwing caution to the wind, but there's no way I can go outside my budget right now. Gonna do some laundry, dishes, and maybe I'll get to the pool before DH comes home. |
Afternoon Ladies,
Miss Mermaid sorry to hear about your accident. How is your foot today? I am glad that you didn't land on the silverware part. That would have hurt getting stuck with all those sharp objects. Hope you are able to be up moving around today. I feel your pain sister. I am a klutz myself. I am the only person I know who can fall going up a set of steps. Summer hope your mammo goes well on Friday. I remember how you have had some trouble with them in the past. Your boss doesn't sound like she is a very understanding person. Hope you can schedule all your doctor's appointments on your days off. So did you get to go swimming this afternoon? I have been busy trying to get those last few things done before going back to school that won't get done after I start. I got a phone call this morning from my new assistant principal that we can't get into the building until Monday now. That will only leave us less than two weeks to get our rooms ready. I am not a happy camper right now. Plus my stepson opened his mouth and pissed me off this afternoon. My dh and him have been on the computer all day basically. So when I ask when it is going to be my turn before my TOPS meeting he says that "Dad and I have it right now. Can't you just wait?" That just set me over the edge. I told him that I am only good enough in his eyes when he needs his clothes washed, something to eat, taken somewhere or some money. The rest of the time Kerry is forgotten about. So I haven't spoken to him since until he apologizes. That is not a good way to think only being 9 years old, is it? Well I better take my crabby self and go get ready to go to my meeting. I was in a good mood today until the little brat told me how he saw things. I am not going to let people shove me to the side anymore. I really think that has had some baring on my weight issues too. I will check back in with you all later. Take care, Kerry |
