definately not TMI!! I was saddened that you removed it. Women supporting women. That's power. I like it when women speak of their challenges. I consider it nothing less than an honor and gift when they do.

Speaking of that, I saw a beautiful TED talk on how women around the world are becoming empowered. I loved the story she told toward the end. Posting the link here if you might be interested https://youtu.be/iz18RQ7UR3w

As for me, I went wild today. The health food store stopped selling the black bean and jack cheese flatbread pizza for one. I had been looking for it in grocery stores. Today I found it. So there was that. With my added blue cheese and onions, 640 calories. Worth every calorie

. But then I needed something sweet. I wanted bamba too because I can afford the 1 dollar. So I went to Trader Joe's. The woman at the register and I were talking. She said she loves their macadamia nut and chocolate cookies. No flour in them. She said it was ruined for her when she realized they were 300 calories per cookie. She asked if I wanted one. I of course said sure. She left the register and went to the shelf. Took a container of the "cookies" and opened it. They were like amazing candy bars. I took one. Then she told me to take the container. I declined her generosity. But said I would take another cookie.

So, we can now add 600 for the cookies and 480 for the bamba. Then I had 300 calorie dinner thinking that some protein and vegetables might be an interesting idea there also were muffins and chocolate covered almonds for samples. So much for staying on plan. I am horrorfied but quite satiated.

The emotional eating was caused by my chiropractic insurance being cut off. And knowing the money for continued care will only come by reducing the food budget. I cannot go without weekly chiropractic care
so, I stopped buying the frozen peaches. Then I emotionally ate, and ate....

chunkahlunkah I hope you had fun during your weekly Thursday night out. Looking forward to any details you share.

Fri
B coffee with protein shake & evaporated milk, TJ chicken bone broth
L salad/chicken, feta, vegs, coco aminos & evoo
D turkey chili, feta over fresh spinach
S protein hot choc, 1/2 b-up bar, apple, sweet potato and oil.

Finished eating

Woke up a little headachy but not hungry. I'm cautiously optimistic about this WOE, which basically is skipping breakfast and having snacks instead of 3rd meal. Hunger came up a couple of times this morning. I had some gum and a busy work day, and totally forgot about food. Lunch was 130 instead of noon, but I wasn't famished. This is new. When I got home from work, I was a little hungry but filled the bird feeders and watered the plants first. Normally on a diet, my first priority when getting home would be to eat. I'm enjoying the peacefulness around food.
It's funny how my dieting has evolved. First the emphasis was How much to eat, then What to eat, now it's When to eat. I suppose next will be How or Who to eat.

I'm confused. i thought you by 'unasked' you meant my discourse on cortisol The words I removed, I thought you actually did ask about it, so I explained. But thank-you for the gift of your support I surely appreciate it.

It sounds like you had a rough day. It's hard to turn down 'gifts' of food. Last week, my little transgression was to be a piece of crispy fried chicken from Safeway. Because it was not super fresh, being late in the day, the server gave me 6 pieces for free. I couldn't eat them all, but i had more than the single piece. My rules are never refuse a gift, but hmmm, maybe health should override that rule, lol. It's extra hard to say no to something unexpected, like the cookie offer. Did you get a chance to check the label ? Maybe she was exaggerating? I can't imagine any existential benefit of a food you can hold in one hand that has 300 calories of sugar, flour, and fat. TJs, why why why?
I am so sorry about the chiropractic situation. That's a major bummer. Maybe your food indulgence was a glimmering of rebellion. Painful as far as the remorse, but it's possible that something else in you that is awakened and ready to fight back, find another path to what you are missing.
I hope today is easier.

Sundove Ohhh yes, the info re Relora. I want to ignore the technicalities, lol. B/c it works so well for me. Aka avoidance at its finest

How's your mom today? I hope you are working through it all. And that she is going to stay on needed medications.

Re the rebellion eating. Absolutely! I was faced with cutting out the frozen peaches. 200 delicious calories that take a long time to eat. But they cost $3.00 per day. Banished now from my shopping list. The lower self said noooooo. And went into rebellion mode. It will work out. Idk how yet. In the past I have used situations to make lemonade from lemons. Eg using this to go into full diet mode. The prob. Is that bamba only costs a collar. . Damn Trader Joe's it will all work out. Somehow things always do.

Re your rule to never turn down free gifts, yes. But good for you that you did not eat all of the crispy fried chicken. You did great! Re confirming calories in the "cookies". I can google it. But was too afraid

Flower Are there any other frozen fruits that you like but could eat 1.50 per day's worth? You sound super resourceful. But in the moment, bad news can sure be demoralizing. I was wondering if your health would permit you to work--like a short gig as a precinct worker on election day, something like that, to bring in a little bit of extra money. I think precinct workers are not paid much, but I think it would be fun. I plan to do it next election. I also wondered if your state has some programs to help seniors. Calif is all I know. Our energy company, PG&E, has reduced rates for seniors, and even lower for seniors with certain health conditions. There might be help out there. My county also has property tax reduction options for seniors.

Thanks for asking about my mother. She was discharged today, with oxygen. We managed to hire a caregiver overnight because otherwise she will trip over the tubing. 92 yrs old using a walker, and on oxygen, is not someone who should be alone at all. My brother has power of attorney but has encouraged my mother in the illusion that she does not need much help. She does not have dementia, just having a hard time accepting the limitations of 90-something and health problems. I don't know what is next. I'll sleep on it--I'm usually more clear headed in the morning, with these issues.

I've had a 3 day roll of eating on plan with out much effort. The next 2 days are a chance to see how I do on the weekend, and probably a weekend with family. I'm psyched for it, though. Sometimes hanging on to my diet gives me a sense of control in challenging situations. And I like my food

Sundove Glad your mom has a caregiver for the night. But I certainly can understand your thoughts re her needing more help than overnight. I hope your brother can get on the same page as you regarding her needs at this time. Hoping that your mom can understand your concerns re the oxygen tube, walker and tripping. And will agree to as much assistance as you recommend. Will be sending good thoughts this weekend. Congrats on staying on plan three days in a row! That's awesome. Wishing you for the weekend.

great question about the frozen fruit. It's one of those food that if brought into the house, is gone within 2 hours. So I cannot dole out portions per day. It's okay. I do not need it. Calories and carbs lower today because no peaches. They were an unnecessary high carb treat.
Btw, you were right to question the 300 calories per cookie. It's 120 calories.
Thanks for the suggestions. I should check to see if the Gas and electric companies offers senior discounts. Last I checked, they didnt. Only fuel assistance for people on "food stamps". I know Comcast does not for phone internet and cable. Thanks for asking. re working at the polls, I am not in good enough health to pull that off. for years I worked on local city campaigns. Maybe one state campaign, as I recall. I loved doing it. I actually worked for a great local politician in the 1980s. But I am no longer able to work. Its okay. All works out in the end.

B: coffee 200
S: Bamba 480
L salad 260
D: vegetables and chicken in Asian broth 300

total for day: 1240thanks to the elimination of peaches.
Hope you all have a good Saturday!

Chunkahlunkah Thinking of you & missing you; sending you hearty soup good wishes It seems like a long time since you began your semester. I hope the end is within your sights and that you will soon be done with coding class.

Flower Outstanding on your day. I know what you mean about peaches not lasting long. I would eat the whole bag. But I would not do that with frozen berries. So I was thinking that might be a thing to substitute, that could last longer. But you went right ahead and just eliminated the peaches.

Thank-you for the will power dust, which I have placed carefully in my front pocket for easy access Thanks too for all the good wishes re my family. I don't expect anyone to change. My goal is to accept the situation for what it is and work on what I can control. It's a moving target. Headspace has been helpful. I'm getting better at using my breath to keep some perspective on thoughts and feelings. Today will be a mindfulness midterm exam It's definitely made a difference at work.

I woke up at a ridiculously early hour, feeling all ready to get into my day. I love the wee hours, and I love afternoon naps. I'm looking forward to that nap this afternoon.

My weight is down a few pounds, glad for the affirmation of the plan. Clothing about the same.

Saturday
B evaporated milk, protein shake, coffee, bone broth
L turkey roll ups, apple
S other half of that B-up bar that's waving at me from the trunk of my car, black coffee
D turkey chili over fresh spinach, sprinkle of low fat feta
S comfort food

Hi, guys! Sorry I've not been around. I haven't felt well. I fainted last Wednesday while in a hot, stuffy rare books room with my class. I have a long history with fainting, but this is the first time I fainted while standing. I've usually been able to lie down in time so that I'm already on the floor when I lose consciousness. I was out for 10 seconds (which is longer than usual for me; it's usually just a couple of seconds), and witnesses told me I seized. Not a fun time! I hurt my nose in the fall (I think I fell on it ). And immediately after, my neck felt very sore in a couple of spots, either from how I fell or when I was seizing.

I'm prone to fainting because I have low blood volume if I don't make an effort to stay super hydrated. I'd been slipping there for a couple of weeks, and it caught up to me. Getting too hot is my worst trigger, and standing around for a while increases the chances too. I also tend to faint when I'm sick or coming down with something. Anyway, it was awful. My head started hurting very badly over the weekend, so I made an appointment for Tues to rule out a concussion. The headache is pretty much gone now though, so even if I had one, I think it's cleared up. I'm still going to attend the appointment though. I want to get my iron checked because when I was badly anemic a couple of years ago, I became much more prone to fainting from any exertion. Since fainting on Wed, I've felt fine while lying down, but when I walk around for a while, I get early fainting symptoms. (Just weakness and lightheadedness; I've been sitting down before it escalates to the dimming vision and fuzzy hearing--once that hits, it's pretty much guaranteed that I'll lose consciousness for a few seconds.)

I had to miss some teaching duties today because of lightheadness. I hope the doctor can help tomorrow. It may just be a matter of needing more time to rest and get fully hydrated, and all the bed rest lately may have made my circulation more wonky, hence the lightheadness when walking around. I've never had the best circulation. (Cold hands and feet, and my fingertips easily get that drained of blood look where they get tight and shrink up. I had that today, so I'll tell the doc tomorrow.)

Sorry, no personals, but I did read. and , guys!

Oh no Chunkahlunkah I'm glad you're getting it checked out. I hope you're continuing to feel better. I wonder if wearing support hose would help. They come in all sorts of colors and patterns nowadays. I love the ones I have for work. Do you have a version of water that you love? When I did the restrictive diet, it was imperative to get at least 2 liters in. I loved to add Mio drops, peach mango,--yeah, fake color, fake flavor Now I use 1 teabag of ginger with some stevia drops to get the water in. Thanks for updating us. I've missed you posting but assumed you'd been caught up in studies.

Chunkahlunkah: So sorry to hear that I’m glad you’re feeling better but so happy you’re keeping your appt. It’s important to get checked out.

I fainted last year, while standing, and also was unconscious. I suffered a bad concussion and it took a very long time to recover (I still get horrible headaches, especially with loud, prolonged noise). For awhile I was also getting the symptoms of feeling like I was going to faint but would sit down before I fell. I’m certainly not an expert but that could be exacterbated by a possible concussion. It slows down all your body natural response times, including getting blood flow to your brain in a normal, timely manner, thus the “fainting” feelings.

As Sundove mentioned, compression stockings can help, along with staying hydrated.

Please take care of yourself and pace yourself, especially with you having to do so much reading/ studying. Please let us know what happens at the doctor.

Hi Sundove and IPN - Thank you so much! The dr reprimanded me for not going straight to the ER that day. I know I should've, but at the time I was really out of it and didn't know for sure if I'd hit my head (although the pain in my nose suggested I had). My neck pain is unfortunately still here. The dr ordered a CT of my noggin and an X-ray of my neck. I'm getting those done on Thursday. She also referred me to a cardiologist and a neurologist, but I haven't set those appointments up yet. I've already been thoroughly checked out by cardiologists so am leaning against seeing one. If all this were free, I'd go wherever, but my student health insurance isn't the best plan I've ever had.

IPN - I'm so sorry this happened to you last year! And also sorry to hear that the headaches have stayed. That's interesting that you also felt faint for a while afterwards. Maybe that's what's going on with me too. I wish for you a continued recovery to perfect health! Did you see a neurologist? I was considering waiting until I got the imaging results before setting up an appointment with one.

Chunkah: Thank you! I was taken by ambulance to the ER - I was totally out of it... I was seeing spots and everything was really dark, almost as if I was wearing sunglasses. I had a CT, MRI, and every test you can imagine. I was ordered to see a cardiologist and neurologist as well. Everything checked out perfectly with my heart. I had to follow up with the neurologist several times due to the concussion.

I had to do ST along with PT for my concussion as well as my arm (when I fell backwards I damaged the nerves in the area around my right armpit). It’s been a long road to recovery!

I’m feeling almost completely back to normal...I was getting 8/10 headaches daily but they’re only every once in a while now. Looking back I didn’t realize just how bad my concussion actually was - I wanted to “shake it off” and convince myself I was fine.

I know the visits to specialists can really add up but it is so important to get checked out.

Wow, I rambled on but really just to say please take care of yourself!

Chunkahlunkah Fwiw... not an expert by any means....It might be worth it to get a neurologist’s opinion. Both for the etiology of the fainting and to make extra sure head & neck are ok. Could be a seizure masquerading as a fainting spell.Good you got the imaging done. Please keep us up to date as you can.I hope for everything to normaliza asap, over & above hoping your coding professor is improving

IPN Sending you healing wishes too. Sometimes it takes a lot longer than it shoukd. I hope you are seeing progress. I’ve heard of people sustaing simple falls that result in head injuries. A long time ago, I made sure to have good shower/ bath mats sleays Had to slip that public svc message in

EDIT IPN We cross posted. Yikes! So glad there’s good improvement.

Agree re worth it to protect our health.
