Default Whole Foods On The Go

I am a newbie to the "whole foods" thing. The last time I lost a significant amount of weight I did very little cooking and ate a lot of canned soups, frozen lean cuisines, protein bars, etc. But now I am really going to try to stick to mostly whole foods for both health and weight loss reasons. Plus, I love to cook!!

My trouble is that I often don't have time in the morning to cook breakfast. I work an early shift so I get up super early already and I hate to think I might have to get up even earlier in order to cook breakfast. So I'm looking for some ideas on what I can grab and go or heat up and go and eat on my commute into work. I'm thinking my best bet would be to cook something the evening before, but my trouble is since I will probably be eating it in the car it can't really be anything I need to sit at a table and eat with a fork. Something easy and non-messy. I know, I know, I'm demanding! I really hope I can make this work though, without having to get up at 4:00am, I don't even think I would be hungry then!

Any suggestions would be great, and they don't have to be typical "breakfast foods," I'll eat practically anything at any time of day.

Would you be able to use a spoon?
I am thinking yogurt, berries and nuts. That would be a great breakfast that doesn't really need any preparation.
I love yogurt

One of my favorite breakfasts is p.b. (organic) & fig jam sandwich.

Great suggestions, Kara!

You could make your own granola bars. Usually it just involves nuts, honey, oatmeal, and dried fruits. Make them on the weekends and grab one each morning.

I also make whole-wheat low-fat muffins and breads (zucchini, pumpkin, etc) for the week. You can put all sorts of good things in here- nuts, flaxseed, etc.

Another option would be homemade quiche. I do this when we have guests over so people can just wander in the kitchen, grab a slice, and heat it up whenever they are ready. One quiche can last you a whole week.
