This tool might change my life!

I just ordered this (and some honey apple butter). I hate stirring natural peanut butter so much and dread it every time I start scraping the bottom of a jar. If this thing works, I will be in peanut butter heaven!!!

Oh, interesting. I would like this too. I was looking at peanut butter in the store the other day. Kroger's Private Section brand has an organic natural pb that looked interesting until I read the ingredients! Yes, it had organic peanuts, but it also listed organic palm oil! Huh, what's up with that!! Plus it had an organic sweetner, which I suppose is better than HFCS, but really, how can it be calling itself natural with added oil and sugar!! (It did have salt, too, but frankly I can't eat pb without salt. It took me long enough to eat it without sweetner :) )

Funny,

I don't know why but I never have a problem with peanut butter separating. It usually needs a good stir when I first open the jar though.

Really seems to depend on how long it has been sitting around. Even a brand new jar doesn't need stirring if it was only manufactured a short time ago.

Unfortunately, once I get one opened it NEVER lasts long enough to separate again. Hey -- even though I'm talking about the 100% natural, nothing but squashed peanuts, kind -- too much of a good thing is still too much.

Between my DH and my dog, we go through lots of peanut butter. I don't eat very much of it myself.

WaterRat 02-01-2008 03:35 PM

Oh Nelie, you just brought back a lot of memories - of my mom's german shepherd trying to get the pb off the roof of her mouth. She loved the stuff though....

Glory87 02-01-2008 03:36 PM

I usually only have to mix it the day I open the jar, but that's the WORST because it's so full oil glops EVERYWHERE! ugh! I can't wait until it gets here! When I buy peanut butter, it's only allowed to have TWO things - PEANUTS and SALT.

Glory, let us know how this works. I hate having to stir and stir, etc.

modkittn 02-01-2008 03:53 PM

A friend gave me stirring advice once. Before you open the PB jar - let it sit upside down for a while. The oil will go to (what is on the top for the moment) the bottom of the jar.

Turn right side up and stir with a long fork.

Works for me every time! After I use it the first time, I put it in the fridge. I never have problems with it after that.

Glory,

When I buy peanut butter its only allowed to have one thing, peanuts :)

I also turn my peanut butter upside down so it isn't too bad on the first opening. It really doesn't need to be stirred again after that and I keep my peanut butter on the shelf. Although, as I said, between DH and the dog, peanut butter doesn't last long. Maybe a month.

BlueToBlue 02-01-2008 08:57 PM

I buy peanut butter that is a blend of peanuts, wheat germ, flax seed oil, egg whites, honey, salt, and flax seeds. It has about half the fat, one and half times the protein, and twice the fiber of regular natural peanut butter (and only 80 calories per tbsp). And it tastes like regular peanut butter.

But it is really hard to stir up when I first open it. I dump the whole jar into a mixing bowl and get out my electric hand mixer. That makes pretty short work of it and things stay pretty neat. Once it is mixed, I dump it back into the jar and store it in the fridge and I don't have any more problems with the oil separating.

That sounds good, Barbara. What's the brand?

BlueToBlue 02-01-2008 09:40 PM

It is SnacLite Power PB. I get it at my local GNC store (which is conveniently located right next to my Trader Joe's) but you can find it online as well (GNC sells it on their website or you can google it). I really like it and I find it to be remarkably filling. I stir a tbsp into my oatmeal--it is heavenly :cloud9:.

When you look at the nutrition data, be sure to notice that SnacLite considers a serving to be 4 tbsp, whereas normally a serving of peanut butter is 2 tbsp. So you have to do some math to compare it to other peanut butters.

On the Ellen DeGeneres, Kid Inventors Show she had this young girls Bella Prieto who invented the ''Bottoms Up Peanut Butter Jar'' it had two screw top lids, one at each end so you could stir the oil .... I thought, this was a great idea... I wish I could find a You Tube video to show you, I can't seem to find anything though  sorry :(

Barbara, I've taken out my hand mixer too, to mix pb... That PB sounds really good :hun:

Circebee 02-01-2008 10:19 PM

I just pour the oil off the peanut butter and down the drain- it still tastes great, and spreads OK, so why would I want to mix all of those calories BACK IN?
