Thin4Life - Week of Oct 2/06

  • Good morning! I had a busy weekend; you know me, I like to stay busy. The play was very well-received. We even got a standing ovation on Friday night. My voice is back!!! I yelled on stage and everything. Played golf with DH on Friday; he did really well and I played so-so. Went shopping on Saturday. My GF and I stopped at a furniture store that was going out of business. We said we'll just look and then leave. We were there over a hour and she spent over $500 on accessories. There were some very interesting items. I bought a pretty mirror for the entry of our house. On Sunday I went to a birthday dinner; that was nice.

I don't know what it is, but I feel fat! I'm very afraid to get on the scales. I've been eating all right, but I've been snacking and that is usually dangerous for me.

Melissa, how did your car get spray painted?? Your temps sound delightful. It's still hot here, but we were teased a few days ago with temps in the 60's in the morning. Aaah!

Pam, your vacation sounds great. I should go some time, but the trip there is daunting from Florida.

    How is everyone else?
  • Good morning! It's brisk here this morning (47) and the sun is shining My friend and I are going for a walk at noon.

Lisa: I'm glad your voice is back and that you had a great opening night! I've been more aware of my snacking and have really tried to cut down on what I'm munching on. My car got spraypainted at the end of August--some kids went through our neighborhood and painted cars, fences, and some other stuff. Luckily, it was only on the trunk and it wasn't too bad, it just looked like a band of dirt. I wasn't able to get the car in until September and they acid washed the paint and then re-glazed the car. The nice part is that the place that did the work also touched up some of the "dings" with paint so the car looks great

I had a pretty quiet weekend. I think I did pretty well with my snacking--no tortilla chips so that's a big victory. So how was everyone else's weekend??
  • Hi everyone. I had a good weekend - visited my family in New Brunswick. It was a very quick trip but good to see Mom and some of my brothers and sisters.

I controlled my intake of food very well until the drive home yesterday. I literally stuffed myself with junk food in the car!! I was thinking about that this morning and figured out it was probably because I was coming home to an empty house rather than to someone who missed my presence over the weekend. Next time, I'll be better prepared and head it off before I chow down on Hallowe'en candy.

Melissa: I just discovered a big scratch on the side of my Echo. I think it's bad enough to warrant attention before winter sets in and they start using salt on the roads.

Lisa: So happy you got your voice back. Congrats on the ovation.

    Hi to everyone else.

    Susan
  • Hi everyone,

Yeah for Lisa and getting your voice back. Baby it this week. Sounds like you had a fun weekend and it is always nice to watch someone else spend lots of money and I'm glad you found something for yourself.

Melissa - glad the car is better and no on the snacking. I am getting better, but not perfect. I'm liking your temps too.

Susan - I understand the eating in the car (no calories as you are driving), but that is also hard, can you talk to your counseler about this? I sometimes hate coming home to an empty house as well. I used to invite people over for dinner on my first night home so I wouldn't be alone. Hugs to you from way over here.

Pam - are you upright and unjetlagged?

    How is everyone else?

Great weekend here, not warm, not cold, fall like. Spent 500 bucks on bulbs on Saturday, took ernest for many walks, had some folks over for dinner and did a bunch of picking up.

Happy to be home. Not happy to be gone every freaking weekend from now until after veterans day.

    Talk to you all later!

  • Hi ladies,

First day back to work after a long vacation is a killer. I'm upright but still a little jetlagged. The weather is beautiful, sunny and mid 60's suppose to get close to 80 by Wednesday. We didn't do much this weekend other than unpacking and tons of laundry. I weighed myself on Friday and suprisingly did not gain a pound. My eating was OK while in Maui there were lots of fresh fruits to choose from but we drank a lot....too many mei tai's and lava flows while poolside..yikes! Anyway another week begins and I will be good.

Lisa I'm glad your voice is better. I love reading about your weekends you always have fun things planned!

Melissa hope you had a nice dinner out with your DH. Happy Anniversary. Go ahead and give jazzercize a try it will be fun.

Susan glad you had a nice visit with your Mom. I wonder how you got that big scratch on the side of your car? Yes, it's best to have it repaired before the salt hits the roads. I'm sure that time will be coming soon here in New England also.

lala you've got a lot of busy weekends ahead of you. Just want to mention I enjoy reading your blog..I like your style of writing.

Hi to anyone else I missed. Happy Monday!
  • Finally got brave and stepped on the scale--not happy. I know it's the darn snacking and the vino (when I'm in a show, the cast goes out afterwards and I have a couple glasses of wine...) Thanks for the good wishes on my voice--it's baaaaack!!!

Pam, glad you were able to keep any weight gain off! Hooray for you. I'll bet you were doing a lot of walking, too. What are lava flows?

Susan, that's too bad about your car.

lala, I like to travel, but your schedule makes me tired just reading about it! 500 bulbs? What kinds? I'm sure it will be pretty.

Melissa, I'm glad your car will be good as new. Why do kids do that kind of stuff? There have been cases of that here and it's awful. Sometimes they spray paint racial slurs or expletives on cars.

    Hello to other lurkers.
  • Good morning! It's been stormy here this morning--it was like the middle of the night when I came in and then the storms (thunder & lightning) hit--it's still pretty dark out and it's supposed to be like this most of the day. Figures because I'm off this afternoon!

Lisa: You'll get the snacking under control. I'm doing okay in that area; I'm working on being more aware of what I'm eating and asking myself, "Do I really want/need this?" and that seems to be helping. Last night, though, I was working on the reservations for this big function I'm helping with and got stressed so I had some chips...it could've been worse but I went to bed!

Pam: Woohoo on not gaining while in Hawaii!! That's great! I think it takes a good week or two to get back on track and on a more normal schedule. I'm always amazed at how Lala bounces back so quickly--me, I'd be dragging for weeks!

Lala: Temps here are going to drop from 73 today to a high tomorrow of 56 but the good news is that once this front moves through we'll have some sunshine and for me that means great walking weather!

Susan: I'd definitely get the scratch taken care of before the weather changes and you have to worry about salt, etc. I can understand your feelings about not wanting to go home to an empty house--I like Lala's idea of planning something to do upon your return with friends.

Not too much else going on here--I have a nice short week--off this afternoon and off again on Friday afternoon. I have a bunch of vacation time left so I'm taking every Wednesday afternoon off from now until the end of November so I'll have some "Melissa time"...I'm looking forward to it!
  • Melissa: Enjoy your alone time.

Pam: What part of Maui were you staying in? It's a great part of the world, isn't it - lots to do and see and easy to stay active. Good for you for not gaining.

lala: That's a good idea - to plan something for the homecoming. Unfortunately, I'm usually so wiped when I step out of the car that all I want to do is hit the bed. At least I know the root cause of the binge - it's something I'll prepare for as I hit the road yet again today. This time, it's work related and I'll have a travelling companion.

Lisa: Sorry about the scale. It's actually my friend this morning. I'm 147.5 - that's 1/2 lb over my WW goal weight. It's also naked, first thing in the a.m., so I wouldn't weigh-in officially at that. It's funny though how my body has changed in just two years. I look all lumpy, even this close to goal. Sigh.

It's a beautiful sunny morning here. Had the best run I've had in a long time last nite - 8 km - and beat the time I'd set for myself. It set the tone for the whole evening!!

  • Hi Ladies,

Nice summer like day today with temps in the 80's...wish it would last. Still trying to play catch up at work, I think it's going to take awhile to recover from this vacation.

Lisa yes I did do a lot of walking in Hawaii so I'm sure that helped. A lava flow is a wonderful little drink..a lot like a pina colada only it has a splash of strawberry in it. Very filling though, I'm sure it has a lot of calories. Yes, flying to Maui from the east coast is very long, when we go again it will be for at least 2 weeks.

Melissa I thought the same thing about lala and all of her traveling, I don't know how she seems to bounce back so quickly. What a nice plan to have Wednesday afternoons off that will really help "shorten" the week. Enjoy your Melissa time!

Susan We stayed in Wailiea in southern Maui. The resort was quite beautiful but we heard they will be demolishing it soon to build condo's. Can't even imagine what the cost of those will be!

    Hi to lala!!

Well ladies, I must get back to work. I'll try and check in tomorrow.
  • Susan, that's great to have a good run and a good time. It is funny how our bodies change (funny strange, not funny comical), but how great to be within 1/2 pound of goal.

Melissa, those afternoons off sound great. I have a bunch of vacation time, so I should consider taking some time off.

Pam, I would like a lava flow because I like pina coladas.

Tonight I have a board meeting for my professional group. Tomorrow I was invited to a dress rehearsal for Lend Me a Tenor. I've seen it before and it's pretty funny (farce).

    Hi, lala, Austingal, Julie
  • Hi everyone!

I'm really really late with answering. I have been bogged down at work and its killing me. No time to post.

I'm so tired and today I'm going to see the doctor about my tubercular cough.

Hopefully, that will be resolved sooner than later.

Everyone sounds great! I hope to be with you earlier in the day tomorrow!

    lala
  • Just checking in--swamped at work. Got the play tonight. TGIF and have a great weekend, ladies.
