Hi all . I hope everyone has had a more positive week than I .:( The kids are living with my son & I , now . They had been living with thier mom at thier aunts & uncles . The day before I was to take them back , Tammy the aunt called & said they couldn't come back . Apparently they had signed a lease aggreement saying it would be a single family household . Someone turned them in & they received an eviction notice . The mother never called us to warn us . The kids haven't even missed her . She didn't seem to be bothered about the situation . Those kids have been dragged around too long . I'm bad off financially , now . :^: I was only skating by before , but it's definately worth it . My son has applied for assistance but things never move quickly . I have had a terrible 2 weeks+ of being off point . I didn't weigh in last week , so i'm apprehensive about tomorrow .

Dora , I sure hope you don't have to sell your house . You were right about never being ever to rebuy at the same price . I can't believe how prices have changed . But it's better to get out with good credit record & a few bucks , than lose it all with nothing . I hope I don't sound like a know it all .

Michelle , congraduations :D ! At least one of us is doing okay .

I have announced to my household , "no more junk" . The kids are happy with applesauce & other healthy foods . So , we're all going to eat healthy . I have done well with walking . So that's a plus . Have a good weekend everyone . Kathy

Yes, Dora, I'm still out here. Had another computer project that's been monopolizing my evenings the last few weeks (http://uuft.org/JulyBeacon/page1.html).

Wow, some of you are really having a hard time of it! If I were in your shoes, I don't know that I would even try to stay OP, but you are and I'm sure with that kind of discipline you'll win through in the end!

Nothing much new here. I've lost 2 more pounds. I'm still not journaling everyday, but I'm getting much better at staying in point range (sometimes journaling in my head instead of on paper). Those last 48 lbs look like a much bigger challenge that the last 77 have been, but it's mostly because I'm rotten about sticking with long term projects. Have to start remembering you folks, because if you can stick with it with all you're going through, surely I can too.

Went to see a local production of Rocky Horror Show last night. The kids onstage were great, but the ones in the audience got a bit annoying at time (as usual). Some of them came in with "planned" heckling, which is somewhat traditional with this show, but they made it pretty hard to hear what we paid to hear! I've got to rent the video sometime so I can hear the full script (if I can find it).

Have a good week everyone. Hang in there!

i want to do it

I found this thread and just had to say hi and introduce myself. I wish you all luck with reaching your goal. My name is Melissa and I am 25 yrs old and on WW for 3 weeks. I have a lot to lose (i lost 10 since I started) and I know that 200 is not an attainable goal for me. However I want to get closer to that number so if you will have me I would love to be a part of this thread. I have been highly motivated these past few weeks, but I know it is going to disappear soon. I am journaling everything I eat and I have started walking, so hopefully this will help me with my weight loss goals. Good luck to everyone reaching your goals.

:) Melissa

Welcome, Melissa. I love your sig line -- "slimmer by September." That sounds like exactly the right attitude to have; I think I'll make it my new mantra.

Gizzi, congrats on losing the weight in spite of the long hours. You're doing so well.

Kathleen, yikes. Sounds like your life is pretty busy at the moment. Good for you taking care of those kids. Just don't forget to take care of yourself.

Well, after a whopping nine-pound gain over the past six weeks, I finally knuckled down this past week and lost 5.5 of them. So a lot must've been water, thank goodness. 3.5 to go and then I'll be at pre-vacation weight.

Work is nuts, and I've asked my boss to lay me off. Big layoffs are expected this month. I'm ready. I have another opportunity, and I want to take it, but believe it or not I need to be laid off first for legal reasons. It's a weird world.

I just bought an outfit I've been drooling over for two years. It's a Coldwater Creek jacket and skirt. It finally went on sale, so I bought it in an XL, which won't fit me yet (I haven't got it yet so I don't know how far I have to go). When it comes, I'm going to hang it on the wall in my bedroom for inspiration. If you want to see the jacket, it's at:

Hi all .

Welcome melissa . The 200 isn't by any means mandatory , & for some like me looking very far indeed . Slimmer by September is an excellent goal . I'm learning that a increase in health is more important than the numbers .

Gizzi , you are doing great . my mom goes to see shows that our local high school puts on & loves it . I think it's great when a high school has a strong drama department .

Lauren , asking to be laid off before being able to leave is weird :dizzy: , but things are weird these days . I think it's great that you have another goal in mind . My sister loves coldwater creek . Sometimes you have to think of a special piece of clothing as an investment . After all you probably won't wear it daily , it's probably a high quality piece , & it'll last a long time .

I only gained 1.6 pounds in 2 weeks , which is a blessing . I could have been alot more . I've pretty much eaten what the kids have eaten . IE; grilled cheese , spagetti , etc . I think the only reason it wasn't worse was my extra walking .;)

TA TA for now . Kathy .344.7/243/185:devil:

Howdy all,

Kathy -my thoughts and prayers are with you. Raising those grandones (even though you ARE young enough to be Mom) is a much longer term commitment/problem than the job situation here. What will it take to get the parents to wake up and get with the program? :(
Don't worry about sounding like a know-it-all, your thoughts are exactly online with mine. I have to wonder, too, what God has in store for us. I had said when this first happened that if the interview situation was not happening by the end of June then we should put the house on the market. And, here it is the 1st of July with one, count 'em, one interview.( But it was a really good one) I kind of wonder if we were to sell and then be magically offered employment that required a move. Whatever. It makes for an interesting adventure.

lauren -I once had a colleague nudge the higher-ups tp lay me off so I could get the juicy severance package. You sound like a brain trust, having to be let go instead of being accused of jumping ship with company secrets. All the best with your new opportunity. Bet it gives your WW life a new boost, too.:D BTW, I love that jacket. Is $80 the sale price? And is the skirt a broomstick style? Bet it would look pretty good on me. I think we share a similar coloring (fair skin that tans, green eyes)

Melissa -Welcome aboard! I'm the funny one who isn't so funny nowadays. Do stay with that walking and journaling and everything will fall into place. A tiny bit of advice: Do get yourself a nice outfit when those clothes get baggy. The high you get from looking good is very worth it.
:smug:

Gizzi - You ought to have your own Rocky Horror video party. What fun! I dressed up the first time I went. Took toast and newspaper and water pistols, etc. But I did have to rent it to hear the words, much, much later in life. Tim Curry sure did the right thing for his career by donning heels.

My DD and DH are off to Ft. Worth for a few days. It's a first for DH to have the care and feeding responsibilities of DD. And I'm fairly certain he will just dump her on his mother while he does computer wizard stuff. Still, I get the house to myself for a few days. Don't know whether to get out the trash bags and "deep clean" or do the prep work for some painting or just chill. Definitely hoping to get some stuff ready for Goodwill and pack my gym bag for after work. Freedom!!;)

I'm gonna make another venture into getting on track again. Tried Saturday and it was as though I was possessed -eating mega chips. Tomorrow is another day.
All the best to all of you!

going shopping

Well, I was told that as I lose the weight that I should buy myself a new outfit or some clothes. I have it in pront so that means I should do it. I am planning on treating myself to a manicure or pedicure after my first 25 pounds. After the second I am hoping to have to do some good shopping. I have a long ways to go (which is why Isaid I wouldn't be to 200 by the end of 2001) but I am looking forward to being able to buy myself some smaller clothes. When I get down to 200 I am going to have a big party or treat myself to something big, but lets just take small easy steps first.

Btw, I do like my motto of slimmer by sept, and I am glad you do too. Right now I want to be thinner but I don't want to set too many goals because that might decrease my chance of succeeding at this this time. I really just want to still be on the WW program by Sept and doiung well at it so it will last through the fall.

Thanks for all the kind words and good luck to all!
:) Melissa

Hey y'all ,

Well , I may get stuck with a court fight now . my grandbabies mother , who hasn't been bothered with them for a month , called on sunday (her birthday) . She was fine until Christopher , who's 5 1/2 told her he was going to go to school by my house . She flipped out & told him , "no , he wasn't " . He then told my son , that I better watch it or she'd see to it that I would only see them on supervised visits . My mother & I have bought them 99% of all of thier clothes since birth . They've lived with me several times . The last time , was in September of 99 . Jenni , my son & the 2 kids moved in . She is the most lazy , filthy person i've ever met . She left Chris & the kids in Feb 2000 . They lived with me until June 2000 . Unfortunately , my son went back to her . I could go on & on . She's threatening to swipe them . My son has signed up for assistance , but needs to find daycare ,& a job . He has no working vehicle . I would really be perfect if he got a swing or graveyard shift job . He also needs to cotact legal aid . Well that's enough on me . I really do enjoy them , though .

I hope everyone is having a great 4th . Kathy

Gizzi 07-05-2001 12:36 AM

Kathy, tell your son to hit the temp agencies. Everytime I needed work I signed up with one and almost all of them have provisions for finding permanent jobs too. If he's a good employee they'll keep him busy. In the meantime he's showing that he's trying to provide for his kids. The pay's not the best and he WILL hit dead times if he works for them very long, but it will also keep him from feeling useless while he's looking.

Gizzi 07-06-2001 12:25 PM

Hey, gang! I got a major surprise at the scales last night. I was expecting to stay even or gain a bit because I wasn't real disciplined on the 4th, but I dropped 5 lbs! I was floored.:dizzy: Got an 80 lb bookmark (82 gone total).

I'm starting to think that there may be something to this soy bit. I started taking a soy supplement a couple of months ago (capsules) & it may be helping to keep my metabolism jazzed up. I also started MSM in January or February which is also supposed to help with weight loss. Ya never know!

melhoward 07-06-2001 06:17 PM

i tried

I am very aggravated. When I started a few weeks ago I printed out the times and locations of local meetings. My regular wednesday night meeting was cancelled because of the holiday so I tried to go to one last night. I waited and waited and there was no sign of anybody. There wasn't even a sign on the door or anywhere saying there was no meeting. A neighbor of mine went to another location that morning so I know they were having meetings in my area, plus my location was having one thursday morning too. I really wanted to go to know how I did this week because I did well on the 4th but not over the weekend. So I was very bummed about there not being a meeting thursday night. I guess I just have to wait until my next meeting on wednesday to see how I have done. Oh well.

I hope I do well this weekend. I am going to a BBQ tonight to watch fireworks and I am almost out of points so it will be tough. But hopefully the rest of the weekend will be good for me.

:) Melissa

kathleen61 07-07-2001 12:20 AM

Hi everyone .

Gizzi , You must by psychic ;) . My son is planning to go to labor ready on the 14th . He has appointments prior to that . We haven't been able to get ahold of legal aide , yet . I'll be glad to get that one over . He's going for full custody (sp?) .

I know I sound like a hopeless broken record , but I have the hardest time eating proper with these little ones around . I feel like I have no self-control . I have bought them more fruit & such . But the main courses tempt me as well . I did walk 5 days this week . One day was by myself . Each day was 2.2 miles , so that's 11 miles . Plus , I mowed the lawn on the 4th . I ate too much , though . Somewhere in me is the self-dicipline to do well again . Does that sound somewhat like the serenity poem ?

Dora , how's it going ?

Melissa , that's too bad that you didn't get into a meeting . I hate it when i get psyched to do something & then i'm left hi & dry .

Hope everyone's saturday is a good one . Kathy:dizzy:

Newbie alert!

Hi, everyone!
My name is Sally. I'm a 35 yr old wife, mom, RN who after years of stress-eating has decided to take control! (Now, if I could only get control of my hair:o ) My best friend, Shari, and I started Weight Watchers 1 1/2 weeks ago. The first week was good (-4.4lbs:D ). My husband offers little/no support, so I'm hoping that between the boards and my friends, I'll be covered.
Shari and I decided that we need to reward ourselves. When we get 10lbs off, it's time for a kid-free evening out to the movies. Our ultimate goal is (okay, everyone, sing it with me...) "VIVA LAS VEGAS"! :spin: It'll be great. Unlike last time, I won't have to ask for an extention for the airplane seatbelt. Well, I'm on my way...I may not get to 200 by the end of the year, but I'll be much closer to 200 than 300:wave: Have a good weekend!!
Sally

Lauren H 07-07-2001 09:35 AM

Welcome aboard, Sally! Great to have you here.

Gizzi, what is MSM? And how much soy do you take? What kind of exercising are you doing? I'm just not doing well in the weight department, and I'm sick of this. There's got to be a better way.
