Pam, info about pleurisy: Pleurisy starts from a lung infection, such as pneumonia, or a viral infection of the pleura. It can, however, also arise from irritation, such as a pulmonary embolism. If the underlying cause is a viral or bacterial infection, then the respiratory infection itself may be passed on to others. Ah, send her home.

The problem with this guy is that he had the cold a month ago and apparently has lingering stuff or he has developed a bad habit. I swear, every 20 seconds, a cough or clearing the throat.

Did something different, went to the cafeteria today for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had jerk salmon with a side of black bean salsa. It was quite good.

What are everyone's plans for the weekend? DH and I will play golf tomorrow. The play opens tomorrow night and we play Saturday and Sunday. On Monday (Labor Day) I'm off, but DH isn't (Bummer). I don't know what I'll do that day.

Hiya everyone,

Decent weather here. Happy about that. Should be able to do some more tomato sauce making tonight. I'm soo sick of fresh tomatoes. Can you believe I said that?

Listening to the Who BBC sessions while trying to deal with finding out if it is cheaper to buy a new workstation or add a external hard drive, 1 Gig RAM and a DVD Reader/Writer to my current system which is still smoking, but running low on RAM etc..

Based on the prices I'm seeing for RAM for this puppy, may be cheaper to buy a new CPU. Go figure.

Lisa -- sounds like you have a busy weekend. The jerk salmon does sound good.

As for colleagues who come into work sick:

1. We are all indispensible, at least in our own minds. Come on - how many call from their vacations in the Mojave desert to check their voicemail? procurement? status on contracts? their work group? Blackberry as soon as the plane touches down on their golf vacation?

2. We never really spend time with our colleagues, so why not come to work, touch the copy machine, cough in the hallway and make everyone sick?

3. Some of us don't get paid to be sick. I do, but I am a lucky duck.

4. Some of us can't get rest other places (home for one).

5. If we are sick, we are weak, we'll be culled from the flock.

6. Sick, I'm not sick. It is allergies.

Well, my plans are very boring. DP leaves on saturday for Wales, via Chicago and Manchester. She took a huge pile of things to read for her generals and then walked to the bookstore last night and picked up a few things.

I'm going to gym, clean out a room without any distractions, garden, go to the farmer's market, drop off toxic paint at the dump, dump out the front closet, clean out her sock drawer (see a trend here), spend saturday night at a swish hotel by myself in a very nice executive suite as I need a night in the quest for hotel nights, maybe use a slippery body scrub in said hotel and do some girly pampering while watching an upstairs/downstairs dvd.... Oh, that is just Saturday.

Seriously, I'm going to do a declutter without my decluttering helper. Should be fun. :)

May work on Monday to see if I can finish up a niggling project before I leave on Thursday. I am hoping to pick up my travelpro from the luggage repair place, that POS has been in for repairs 3 times in three years and I am not happy. Spend the extra 50 bucks and get a briggs and riley. Trust me.

Okay, should get back to work.

Everyone, have a great day.

Good afternoon ladies!

Pam: I could never understand why people wouldn't stay home if they felt terrible and could be contagious--my boss tends to do that, although I will say this past year he has been better about staying home if he's sick. I send my student workers home if they're sick--better to get some rest than to pass it on to someone else. I know I used to feel guilty staying home.

Lisa: Congrats on your weight loss!! I didn't step on the scale yesterday and am not sure that I want to at all this week so I may just wait until next Wednesday to see where I'm at. I had a horrible day of eating yesterday.

Lala: I haven't canned any tomatoes yet :( I haven't gotten a whole lot of tomatoes out of our garden but we did cut back on the number of plants. DH usually goes out and buys them that way I can get a bunch done at one time. I think we'll be doing that next weekend since we'll be busy this weekend. I really need to work on de-cluttering.

Susan: How are things with you?

Pam: Hope your weather is as nice as ours--it's a beautiful 77 here today and no humidity! The weekend outlook is great--temps in the low 70's with night time temps in the 50's.

I'm meeting a friend tonight to walk the peninsula--can't wait! I need to get my butt moving and back on track. I figure since today is the 1st of September it's a good place to start. Tomorrow night I'm working at WW and then Saturday/Sunday I'll be at the festival walking my butt off :) Monday will be spent recuperating.

Hi everybody. Just in for a quick note before heading off to the Stones concert. Am so-o-o-o excited!!

The remnants of Katrina made their way through our town over the past few days. It still packed a punch in terms of wind and rain. I cannot imagine the force with which it hit Alabama, Mississippi and Louisianna. I've been glued to CNN for days and finally made a donation this morning. The misery is beyond belief.

I was on a nice little weight loss roll until yesterday. Haven't stepped on the scales yet but I don't think I'll be pleased when I do. Let's hope a return to the more structured work world will help.

Had my hair cut and highlighted this week; I think I like it but there's been so much humidity in the air that I can't tell yet.

May have cracked a rib last nite. I leaned over the island in the kitchen to read something in a magazine and felt a snap. Got really weak for about 10 minutes and almost passed out. Rib very sore today; I'm pulling a Scarlet O'Hara in that I'm refusing to even think about it. I'm training for two 1/2 marathons in the fall and can't afford any injury. Will let you know..

Sorry again for not acknowledging everyone individually. I'll be back at work in a couple of weeks, so will be posting more regularly then :)

lalala 09-02-2005 12:08 PM

Yikes Susan!

I know Scarlett wore those corsets tight, but I would probably have that looked at.

I'm proud of you for training! Way to go.

Cranky here. Got into a little spat with DP about my lack of empathy for her long legs and flying. I am not very pleased with her right this second.

Went out to dinner last night. I have to say I ate too much, but it was sublime. I did eat about 1/3 of my risotto and took the rest home. Lobster risotto with fresh corn. Yum.

Trying to do some clean up here before the weekend. Whoo hoo.

More later.

well, DP is somewhere over montana, laundry is started, roses pruned, farmer's market marketed, trader joes done, recycling done and gone to the gym.

now, i'm going to take a nap.

DP took the local paper and the NYT today. Why? She could have read both in the airport lounge. Oh well. Guess I'll just do with a novel.

Hope everyone else is having a most excellent day.
