Flex chat / Week of June 6th

Good Monday Morning everyone! Hope everyone had a good weekend! It was sooo hot here (Ohio) over the weekend I didn't go outside until the evening. Did manage to get the last of my living room done though...I have over the course of the last couple of weeks painted the downstairs portion of my house and wallpapered one long wall in my living room. I have to say it looks really good, me and hubby are so proud of ourselves! :D
Sunday I had a Tastefully Simple party....if you are not familiar with these it is kinda on the lines of a Tupperware party, except instead of Tupperware, they sell food!! I booked this party before I started on WW. Most of the dips are made with sour cream and mayo, and you also have things like beer bread, pound cake and brownies. We tried 25 products! But I saved 17 points for the party and everything was cut into small bite sized pieces. Then I brought the rest of it to work today so it would be out of my house!

I also ate at Ruby Tuesdays on Friday and did really well: Petite Sirloin (6pts), stemmed broccoli (0 pts) and sauteed mushrooms (4pts) YUM!!

Weigh in tommorrow!! Let's keep our fingers crossed!

mauvaisroux 06-06-2005 11:46 AM

Good morning! :)

Sounds like a fun party Sherri!

I got some gardening done on Sunday morning (about 3 hours worth :faint: ) but the beds are dug and my tomato plants are in - just in time for a huge thunderstorm last night

My backyard is still pretty bad as the house we bought was a rental property and the yard had been neglected for some time as well as a lot of junk was left in it

I did pretty good food wise this weekend so I am hoping weigh in tomorrow will be good. :crossed:

DH is breaking out the BBQ tonight so we will be having burgers, salad and corn on the cob for supper :T

Allie Abbott 06-06-2005 03:11 PM

repeat...

Hey everyone...this is a bit of a repeat...I posted on the old thread before realizing a new one had been started. So sorry if you read most of this already.

I haven't heard of tastefully simple before. Sounds interesting.

We finally had a good weekend for working in the garden. And, wouldn't you know it, the night after putting a bunch of potted plants out, we had a tremendous wind storm that knocked over 1/2 the pots, so I was furiously repotting before leaving for work today to keep the plants alive.

I've miraculously been doing o.k. with the cookies in the house. Had relatives over about 2 weeks ago, and the bag of cookies, although emptier, is still there. I get Voortman's Low-sugar Zeerrooo's, which are basically Oreos, 1 point per cookie. Used to be that the bag would be gone in a couple of days.

My hubby met his "haircut goal" this week. Actually, he was couple of pounds away, but with hot weather this weekend, he decided it was time for the shag rug to go. He now has a flattop, and he shaved his beard and moustache off too. The hairdresser was having great old time. He's lost 27 pounds, and it was awesome to watch his thin face emerging from under all the hair he'd been using to hide his (no longer existing) extra chins.

When I was younger, I used to say I would get a bellybutton ring if I lost enough weight, but I don't know if I still have the guts to do that. At the moment, I don't want anyone looking at my belly.

mauvaisroux 06-06-2005 09:38 PM

How cute that your DH had a haircut goal :)

Sounds like you are doing well with your lifestyle changes (the cookies).

We got that thunderstorm here last night too - and it looks like another is on its way.

sherry1215 06-07-2005 10:33 PM

Well, I had a good WI, down 3 1/2 lbs!! :cloud9:
Also had a very good meeting (much better then last weeks poker topic) We tried the Chocolate WW smoothies :T --has anyone tried these yet? Pretty good and they count as 1 milk when you add water to them, or two milks if you mix it with a milk instead of water. May have to pick up a box of them next week.
We are badly in need of rain here, although I think tommorrow we are supposed to get some. And it will probably rain all weekend, that is the kind of luck we have around here.

Allie Abbott 06-08-2005 07:44 AM

I haven't had a WW smoothie...maybe it's one of those things that they don't sell in Canada? How many points was it?

My strawberries are out in full force right now. YUM YUM YUM. Natures most perfect food. Unfortunately, some of my fave ways to enjoy strawberries are rather high points...i.e. on cheescake. So far this year, I have had them with LF cool whip, FF yogurt, and Light ice cream. I also had a banana-strawberry smoothie. So far, so good. Any other ideas?

I put up bird-scaring tape and slug traps in my berry patch, and so far I have lost few berries to critters. I got them out of the Lee Valley catalogue, and they usually only sell things that they are quite certain will work. I will put up the tape around my raspberries and gooseberries as well. Last year, birds got pretty much ALL my gooseberries.

WI is tomorrow...I just might be able to reach my 10% goal this week!

nibs 06-08-2005 12:10 PM

Hi guys,

Been a bit of a bad week for me. I think I may be up this week but I will do better for next week. Been so stressed out trying to get the last minute things done at school with the DS. Last minute tests and finals and he's only in grade 7. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Anyway I'm looking forward for the summer break. Well for the first week anyway and then I'll be wishing for him to be back in school  . How is everyone else doing with being OP this week. Anyone else in the dogpound like me!!!!!

Kim

mauvaisroux 06-08-2005 12:17 PM

Yes, I haven't been doing very well either Nibs. Despite making huge efforts to stay OP on the weekend the scale has not gone down :(

We'll both just have to get back to it this week :)

racheldawn 06-08-2005 03:51 PM

Tried out a loose version of the Wendie Plan this week, I ended up weighing in this morning and had a 5 POUND LOSS (reached my 10% goal!)! I was very shocked. I think I'll try it for another week and see what happens. I've been slacking on the exercise, so I plan on upping that, atleast walking more.

Good job everyone and keep up your hard work, it does pay off!

sherry1215 06-09-2005 08:48 AM

Way to go Rachel!! :bravo: I think sometime we need to try something a little different, just so we don't get into a slump with it.
Allie--here is an idea for your strawberries......box them up very carefully and send them to me!! :T I LOVE strawberries!! I have been eating strawberries as often as possible with the ff Boston Creme Pie yogurt....so good!
Kimmy and Mauvaisroux--just keep up with it! You both have been doing well....don't let a bad couple of days (or a week) keep you down. :goodluck:

sherry1215 06-09-2005 09:33 AM

Okay fellow "flexers" I have a confession to make, I am THINKING about trying Core next week (after my tuesday WI). There are a couple of people in my meeting who are making it sound pretty good. Plus, my leader said she has seen good weight loss from people who go back and forth between the programs (on a weekly or bi-weekly basis--I know you can not change mid-week).
My questions for you are:
1.) Have any of you tried Core?
2.) Will you still let me post in the "Flex Chat" if I do core sometimes? ;)

mauvaisroux 06-09-2005 09:48 AM

Way to go Rachel! :bravo:

Sherri- I have not done core but have done a combo of South Beach Diet and WW which I am going back to this next week. I feel like I need a shake up too :) My DH has agreed to do this too and he actually asked if I would help him exercise :faint: Miracles do happen

And of course you can post here whenever you want :D

sherry1215 06-09-2005 12:54 PM

:thanks:

The thing is I have been doing very well on Flex, I am on my 11th week and have lost 23 lbs (to me, that is good). But, I want to try something different...but I am afraid I will mess myself up if I go to Core for 1 or 2 weeks. You know how it is sometimes if we have one bad week, it can really mess you up, or keep you from keeping up with the program. Ugh, decisions, decisions... :?: :?: :?:

nibs 06-10-2005 07:31 AM

Just try it for the one week Sherry and see how it works. If you haven't lost or god forbid if you gain just jump back on the flex wagon. We'll be here to pull you back on :) . I wouldn't be able to do core I don't think. Most foods I like aren't on the core plan so.....but never know, one of these days I may try it. I am going to go for my walk shortly and get it started for the day. I can't wait until I am truely back OP. I'm not feeling the dedication yet. Maybe after today! Talk to you guys in a bit.

Allie Abbott 06-10-2005 07:48 AM

I haven't tried core, but it's one of those things I might try if I hit plateau. For me and my DH, we didn't really want to go with it, b/c we want to learn how to eat normally with the foods we like, and most of what we like is not on the core plan. So far, we have discovered lots of low-point ways to enjoy our favorites.

I am feeling GREAT this morning, b/c I was down 3.2 at WI last night! :cb:
O.K. Now I admit that it was the first time I wore shorts instead of long pants to WI, but the difference between them would not be all that much. This also means that I reached my 10% goal!

I have to buy a dress this weekend. I am going to my brother's wedding next weekend, and all my really nice dresses are either from before I gained weight and are too small, or from my plus size days, and look like potato sacks now. I don't want to spend too much, since I don't plan to fit in this dress very long. ;) I will probably go to a Value Village or something to see what they have.

sherry1215 06-10-2005 09:23 AM

Thanks girls for your support! :) I still am going back and forth with the idea, but appreciate everyones input.
Allie- :cp: Way to go with the loss! Buying clothes is going to start being more and more fun!

nibs 06-10-2005 01:20 PM

Well I did it! I went for an hour and 10 minute walk and felt wonderful afterwards. I ate a fat free ham and cheese sandwich on weight watchers bread and 1 cup of strawberries for lunch. So far so good. I even went and had a tanning session a little while ago. Someone said one day here that for some reason fat looked better brown and not white and I have to agree  On me it does anyway. Then again I don't think it is as much a tan as all my freckles joining together

Hopefully tonight will be a good night also. Going out with friends for awhile but I'll bring my water bottle.

TTYL

Kim

sherry1215 06-10-2005 02:02 PM

Kim-totally agree with the whole brown fat VS white fat issue! Hope you have fun with your friends!

mauvaisroux 06-13-2005 09:50 AM

Congratulations allie! :cp: and good going nibs! :cb:

I had a great weekend- I went on a girls night out on Saturday and had a great time. Thank goodness I saved all my flexpoints for it though, dinner went well but then we went to a martini bar and thats where all my points went. I walked around Chinatown for about an hour on Sunday and managed to resist the urge to go for dim sum. I did go into the Chinese grocery store and picked up a few things to experiment with this week- Chinese long beans, which look like really long green beans, fress lemon grass, mung bean sprouts and Chinese black vinegar. We shall see how my recipe turns out :crossed:

Unfortunately it has been too hot to exercise here but I am hoping to do something low-key like yoga when I get home tonight.

Hope everyone had a good weekend! :D

sherry1215 06-13-2005 12:42 PM

Mauvaisroux--okay, gotta ask, is "Chinatown" that you are talking about the same one located in New York...or is this another one? the reason I am asking is I am heading to New York in September, this will be my second trip there, the first went by in such a blur.....wondered if you have any tips if you are familar with that area.

mauvaisroux 06-13-2005 03:50 PM

Sherry - No, not New York! We have a small "Chinatown" area where I live in Canada :D I love to go shopping there - all sorts of cool stuff and yummy food. I'm sure the one in New York will be amazing since it is more than likely 3 times the size of ours!

renniks 06-13-2005 04:05 PM

Hi everyone,

I am having not as easy as a time with WW. I have been on flex for 7 weeks and lost 7 lbs then gained 3 last week (that was after my sisters wedding). I have a 4 1/2 month old daughter and find it very hard to cook everynight. I also work full time and we go out to lunch everyday. I get sick and tired of salad after salad. I have no willpower. But I know I dont belong in this body. Any tips or advice.

-Allison :(

mscat816 06-14-2005 06:39 PM

Looking for new friends

Hi - I am looking for thread to join to get some real encouragement and help with WW. I am 48 years old (soon to be 49!) on the flex plan on-line. I love the flex plan but I am so inconsistent - rarely eat enough meals, not getting enough water, and I am not exercising enough. Therefore, I am gaining and losing the same 10 lbs for the past two years (have only been on weight watchers around 2 months). Looking for support and tips on how to get more of the things I need so I can lose. What is your thread about and if not for me - does anyone know of a good thread where I can report and be accountable?

Thanks
mscat

sherry1215 06-14-2005 06:53 PM

Hi guys!! Had a pretty good WI only down 1/2, but I did get my 10%!! :encore: And, yes I have decided to try Core for atleast one week. So, I will let you know how it is going. Went grocery shopping today and bought some food that I will need for it. Like plain shredded wheat...yum. :D

Okay ALLISON--first of all welcome to the boards, I don't think I have seen you on here before.....anyway, I totally understand everything you are going through. I have an overactive 4 year old (is there any other kind?) a husband who works shift work and thinks that french fries qualify as a vegetable, and it has been so hot and humid here that all I wanna do is sit around and eat ice cream. You have taken the right step though in joining in here (and hopefully going to the WW meetings). I work also, and I simply do not eat out with my co-workers anymore. They all go out every day, but I pack my lunch. Since starting WW 2 months ago I have been out to lunch twice. There are other foods you can eat besides salads. If that is all you are eating it is no wonder you are frustrated. You may want to pick up the WW book that has listings for restaurant. It has points values for all kinds of places. I would also recommend going to this website: www.dwlz.com There is a huge list of restaurants there with points values. Before we go anywhere, I go on there and look up what I am going to have, I have bascially stopped looking at the menu when we go anywhere...too tempting!
I am trying Core for the first time this week, but you may also want to look into it. My leader says she has a much easier time eating out on Core. And, if you feel like flex is to difficult right now, you may need a break from it....you may want to try Core and see if it works better for you.
Are you attending meetings? I strongly urge you too. This is too important for you to do this alone. Ofcourse, you are not alone here, but having the weekly members really helps keep you focused. Plus, if you have a good group of people in your meeting, they will start noticing the difference in you as you lose the weight and will encourage you.
I know this post is kinda long, but I have been in your shoes...I have joined and dropped out of WW 3 times, and each time I end up going back, after having gained back every pound I lost plus more.
Get out your reading materials, keep searching the internet and post here often, you can do it!! :goodluck:
Feel free to PM me if you need any help or just to talk!

sherry1215 06-14-2005 06:58 PM

Hey mscat! You are welcome to join us...we are just a small group of people who for the most part are doing the Flex points part of WW. You are welcome to join us for encouragement, advice or just to chat. This entire site is great, and lots of people on here know the program inside and out so if you have a question or problem someone here has probably "been there, done that" so they can help!! :balloons:

mauvaisroux 06-15-2005 09:50 AM

Welcome Renniks and mscat

Sherry gave you both some great advice and mscat there is also a support group here for people doing ww online if you look around the other parts of this ww forum.

Good luck to both of you! :lucky:

I had a good weigh in yesterday - lost 1.5lbs- yippee!!!! :cb:

Allie Abbott 06-16-2005 07:35 AM

Well, it's WI day...I don't think the news will be that great. I didn't eat differently this week, but I didn't exercise enough. The weather was really hot, and I think I got dehydrated on Friday (I did drink a lot of water, I had to bike around to supervise students at a bunch of locations, so I think I needed even more), so I sat around and did no exercise for the weekend, and it was REALLY hard to get back into exercise gear the rest of the week.

This week will be worse, it's exams and report cards time, so I will be spending a lot of time on my behind marking and entering grades. I have a dessert and awards evening tonight, a year-end BBQ tomorrow, and a wedding the day after that. ARG!

Well, once report cards are done, I will have a bit more time on my hands, and I am determined to start using the gym we bought last year, and is collecting dust in the basement. I was trying on sleeveless dresses last night, and although I fit nicely into a smaller size than I have in a long time, I was disgusted by the floobiness of my arms. I guess lifting chalk and shuffling papers doesn't exactly build killer biceps. :strong:

Wish me luck, and have a great weekend everyone!

sherry1215 06-16-2005 10:15 AM

Great WI Mauvaisroux! :bravo:
Good luck with your WI Allie--let us know how it's going. :goodscale
Yesterday was Day 1 for me on Core, it went well. We picked strawberries yesterday morning, so I am having ff strawberry smoothies for breakfast and bowls of strawberries for snacks.
 Allison and Mscat---how are you guys doing?

Allie Abbott 06-17-2005 07:25 AM

Phew, WI wasn't so bad after all, down 1 pound! I think that my bathroom scale is all wonky with the big changes in temperature and humidity we have had. :spin:

Allison, salads started to bore me, too, and so I have tried to find ways to spice them up. Using different dressings can be a good way of keeping them interesting. I tried one the other day with strawberries, raspberries, and raspberry vinagrette over romaine lettuce. YUM! I had one last week that was a main course salad, which I made with spicy chicken, 9 different veggies, and just a bit of Calorie-wise ceaser dressing.

mscat, If you are having trouble getting enough meals, try having some low-point snacks handy (fruit, veggies, yogurt, etc) to snack on throughout the day. You're not having a big sit-down meal then, but you are getting enough points to keep your metabolism up.

How is core going, Sherry? I was wondering how you know when to stop eating. I don't know if I could do something like core, because one of my problems which gained me the weight was eating all the time, and I would never really feel *full* unless it was a huge meal like Thanksgiving dinner or church potluck.

sherry1215 06-17-2005 09:03 AM

Good morning! :coffee2:
Allie-I think it has helped me being on the points for so long. I know what a portion size is, so that is what I start out with. Then, after eating my regular portion, if I am still hungry I get a little bit more. In between meals I have been eating fruit, and ofcourse drinking my water! :twirly:

stacey2320 06-17-2005 03:36 PM

oh can I join in on this thread too!!??

YOU all are so sweet!! :smug:

Ofcourse you are welcome to join!
