Ah, there's nothing like walking into house after a hard day at work and smelling the aroma of home cooked stew ready and waiting for you

I have been inspired to dig my slow cooker out and make something this week - thanks!

I like to set up the crock pot at night while I'm cooking the current day's dinner. Then I put the crock part in the frig and all I have to do in the am is put it into the heating part and turn it on. A lot of nights I can do the same prep for both meals, like chopping onions.
I've been wondering if you can just buy the crock piece, so often when I use it, I keep the leftovers in the crock, or it doesn't get cleaned for one reason or another for a day or two, if I had a back-up crock, I could really do some slow-cooking.
It does drive the dog nuts to smell dinner cooking all day - oh well! :-)

You all inspired me - last night I made the Cajun Stew recipe from the WW Slow Good cookbook. When I get home tonight I will just have to add some flour to thicken the gravy and heat up the stew. I will let you know how it turns out

Well the stew turned out pretty good, a little soupy for my liking so I added some extra flour to thicken the gravy a little more. DH like it too!

BTW Jane I paid $12.00 Canadian for my Slow Good book.

What type of recipes are in the WW slow cooker book? I really want to use my crock pot more, but most of the recipes I've found are soup/stew, and that gets boring after a while. I wish I could dump the stuff in and come home to a freshly baked pizza....

Crockpot pizza....I wish!

The book offers soups, stews, chilis, pot roast, Swiss Steak, sloppy joes, New England Boiled Dinner, pork tenderloin, pork chop dishes, chicken cacciatore, meditarranean chicken, meatloaf, gumbo, stuffed peppers, paella, - to name a few- and desserts for the slow cooker

It also offers 35 "CORE" recipes.

I always assumed it was the set price, but now that I look at the book, there's no price on it, so I guess the center does set the price. My center pretty much charges $10 for any of the cookbooks. Odd.

Did somebody say Crockpot Pizza???

I found this on About.com - I think it could be adapted pretty well with 7 percent fat ground beef (or veggie crumbles), lowfat cheese and some turkey pepperoni.

CROCKPOT PIZZA

* 1 1/2 lb. hamburger, browned and well drained
* 16 oz shredded Mozzarella cheese, or as desired
* 1/2 cup chopped onion
* 1 pkg. sliced pepperoni
* 2/3 box rigatoni noodles, cooked
* 1 can cream of mushroom soup
* 1 can (4 ounces) mushrooms
* 2 jars pizza sauce, about 12 to 16 ounces each

PREPARATION:
Layer ingredients in buttered slow cooker as follows: hamburger, noodles, cheese, soup, mushrooms, onions, sauce and pepperoni. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 hours.

Was going to buy the slow cooker book todayl, but they said that home office only sent 10 copies to see if it would sell. So. it is on back order. Will get it when it comes in. A lot of the girls on the WW recipe swap have tried it and are raving about it.
Sherry. drive down to Murfreesboro for your WI. Have lots of WW goodies for sale. Judy

I got the book and love it! I've tried a few recipes already, but so far my favorite is the 5-spices Asian pork.... mmmm

For those who have it, what is your favorite recipe?

I picked up a Light and Tasty magazine and the Shape recipe book at the grocery store. THey are filled with recipes that are low in cal (unfortunately not all low in points) sent in by readers, they both have some really great recipes to try.

Didn't know that Shape had one out - I will look for it, thanks!

Two of my favorite mags are Cooking Light and Eating Well. I just got the latest issue of Eating well and the recipes look awesome!
