Introduction thread>

Well, I guess we could start an introduction thread for our group. I would like Kae to start it...not sure what all you want on it. Let us know where to look and all that. :D
I'm still not feeling well today. Good thing I'm off today and tomorrow. :( Maybe I got the virus through my computer from all of you! Just kidding!
Anyway, I will be on line here and there. Checking in now and again.
Later group! ;)

*groan* Oh Shawn I just KNEW you were going to say that.

okay. Give me a bit and I'll come up with some questions and post them. Perhaps the thread will be titled "getting to know the New Creations" or some such.

Sound like a plan?

*wanders away whistling looking for food*

Kae- who is your avatar? it looks like John Taylor. I'm a big Duranie. I still have 5 posters of them hanging in my closet :o :^: I can't bear to get rid of them.

How is everyone? I worked a full 8 hour day shift so I'm trying to get in all my water now :( I saw on the news that a boy died from to much water.
I need to find another job. My current one is going to drive me to drink :dz:

Chat feature?

No, I didn't know that. Yes it would be cool to chat. I will have to try it. I had Yahoo at one time but not many people on it that I knew anyway. and I also had hotmail. But they just take so much room and I don't have many people on them. I will try to contact you on yahoo sometime. Not tonight however as I am heading to bed soon.
Still not feeling great and need to sleep. :(

umma 02-05-2005 10:12 AM

Hello ladies,
I am still around. I have been reading all the post almost everyday. Just haven't been posting. I'm Sorry. I have been haveing a rough time with my husband latly. We were on the verge of a seperation. I didn't want to come on and depress all of you with my boring details. We are doing better now. Talking alot more. I think thats what our biggest problem was. We stopped talking to each other and sort of became room mates. Not my idea of a marrage. OK, enough of my depressing stuff.
I am back and ready to talk. I will be posting more often so you all might actually get sick of hearing from me.
I am so proud of you all for keeping this thread going and for doing so good with your journey of weight loss. You all inspire me. Thank you.
I am still doing good with my weight loss. Down a total of 35 pounds now. I never thought I would get below 220, but I did. I hope I didn't mess things up this week though. I went a couple of days without eating at all. Nerves......I hate them.
Well, I must go make a late breakfast for the kids. THey slept in this morning. I will be back later.
Again, sorry for being gone for so long, and I also want to welcome all the new people.

OH.....Christina, I also have a violin. I took lessons in school from 5th grade to 11th grade. I loved it but didn'r like the teacher I had so I quit in 11th grade. I wish I could take lessons again. Maybe someday.

Talk to you all later,
TTFN, Lori

Christalynn 02-05-2005 12:24 PM

Kae- WHAT? you're going to see them..that's not fair! I've been listening to them for 20 years and never have I once got to see them live :(
If you go could you take a pic for me Pleeease :D
Anyways...
I hope everyone is doing good. I'm struggling getting in all 1400 calories...that was the same problem I had with WW and points but I think I can do it :)
I can't think of any questions to add..I know Kae will whip up a qreat list ;)
Has anyone of you tried the Snapple A Day meal replacement? I had one this morning and was surprised by how good it was..eventhough it wasn't chocolate flavored :^:
Lori- I'm so sorry you are going through tough times with your marriage..I wish you the best on your situation. I know things will eventually work out for the best.
I'm not an expert...I was only married for two years before my husband admitted an affair and two weeks later came out of the closet :o
I'll check back later.

umma 02-06-2005 10:08 AM

Christalynn 02-06-2005 11:38 AM

Good morning everyone,

I hope everyone is having a good Sunday. I have to work 8 hours this evening..so I'm getting in all my chores and catch ups now.
Kae- I checked out the website. Unfortunately that are not coming here to Kansas.
I am putting my foot down. I am an obsessor of the scale. I have my own and it never weighs me right. So I'm just gonna stop focusing on it and put all my attention on my goals and how I feel and look.

I found this article and thought I would share it with you all…enjoy

Change your perception of the word "diet". Your diet is what you eat and drink, not a rigid set of rules that eliminates the foods you like and forces you to eat the foods you dislike. Develop eating habits you can live with for the rest of your life.
Exercise regularly. Weight loss occurs when the calories we take in are less than the calories we expend. Exercise helps increase the calories we expend. 30-60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity 4 or more days of the week is recommended.
Remember to include strength training activities in your exercise plan. Strength training increases muscle and muscle burns calories even when you are sitting still. Therefore, the more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn. Strength training activities should be included 2-3 times per week. Don't strength train 2 days in a row, allow at least one day of rest in between.
Focus on behavior changes and not the scale. Each week set specific, measurable goals such as eating 2 servings of vegetables per day, measuring portion sizes, etc.
Keep food and activity records to help you assess your progress. Look them over daily and ask yourself "Have I met my goals?" If you haven't, ask yourself "why and what do I need to do to be successful?"
Reward yourself for changing behaviors with non-food motivators. When you meet your goals for changing behaviors, treat yourself to a movie, a massage or something else that you enjoy.
Remember portion sizes. Portion size is one of the most often overlooked pieces of information on nutrition labels. How much you eat is as important as what you eat.
Don't be afraid to throw food away. Is it any less waste to eat food that we don't need than it is to throw it away? That extra ½ cup of juice or cereal or the few extra chips may not seem like a lot at the moment, but over time these little "extras" can add up to a lot of calories.
One food indiscretion does not make or break your weight loss efforts. Simply refocus on your goals and make more thoughtful choices the next time you eat or drink something.
Eat mindfully. Mindfulness is "knowing what you are doing while you are doing it." Taking the time to be aware of what you are eating and enjoying the experience of eating can help us slow down and manage portion sizes more effectively.
Learn how to manage stress. Many of us often eat in response to stress and a successful weight loss plan also includes stress management techniques.
Drink 6-8 eight-ounce glasses of water each day. Try filling a pitcher with 64 ounces of water at the beginning of each day. Make it a goal to drink all of it before you go to bed.
Balance your plate. Only ¼ of your plate should be made up of meats, the other ¾ should consist of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and beans.
Learn new ways to cook and plan ahead. Try new recipes and don't be afraid to experiment with new products. Make a plan for handling difficult situations like eating out and family gatherings ahead of time. Being prepared will help you stay focused on your goals.

Now something on Water...

Water makes up 60% of body weight and is very important for proper functioning of the body. The bones are 22% water, blood is 92% water, and the brain is 75% water. We need water to cool the body, metabolize fat, remove waste from the body, and convert food to energy. Adequate hydration is also necessary for maintaining muscle tone and skin tone.
Most people should drink 8-10 cups of water daily, or 64-80 ounces. Drink water even when you are not thirsty. The body's thirst mechanism is not a reliable indicator of hydration status. By the time we feel thirsty, we may already be mildly dehydrated. When we exercise, we need even more water. It is important to drink water before, during, and after a workout. In general, the recommendation is 8-16 ounces of water before exercise and 5-10 ounces every 15-20 minutes during exercise. After exercise, drink water to quench your thirst, then drink even more. If you weigh yourself before and after your workout, drink 16 ounces of water for every pound of weight you lose after exercise. You can tell whether or not you are drinking enough water by monitoring your urine. Urination should be frequent and urine should be pale in color. Remember to drink extra water during hot, dry weather when our fluid needs are increased.

I think this is my longest post ever  :blah: :blah:

umma 02-07-2005 12:33 PM

thank you Kae

I just want to start by saying thank you Kae. That is probably one of the best things I have been offered by anyone lately. Things are still going ok with us. I hope it just gets better. But thank you again. It really means alot to me.

I would also like to share a non scale victory with you all. I went clothes shoping yesterday and I am down from a size 22 (more like a 24) to a size 18, and the 18's are comfortable and not tight in any way. I was soooo excited. I can't wait to have to buy more clothes that are smaller.

Well, weigh in is tonight. I will be back either later or in the morning to let you all know how I did. Hope all of you are doing well.

TTFN, Lori
