Hi ladies,

Brrrrrrr it's cold. Temp is still hovering at 0. Why oh why do I live in this frozen tundra???? Anyway enough complaining spring will be here before we know it :p

Susan I had laser surgery 2 years ago and my fear is that my vision will regress. So far so good for me. What a bummer having to wear glasses again I started wearing them when I was 10 and never liked the way they looked on me..no matter what style I chose.

Lisa so nice to finally "see" you. You're looking good lady and the hair looks very natural. I'm not going to comment on your 60 degree temps.

Melissa so glad your feeling better. Yes, be careful when your out in the ice and snow. Have you always lived in PA? Do you get as sick of the cold weather as I do??

Lala I have a lot of friends with older cats but no ones comes close to Roya's age. That is amazing..she must get a lot of TLC. Good luck today with your hip..keep us posted.

Well ladies I should get back to this powerpoint presentation I'm working on. Wish me luck tomorrow.

Hi guys,

at home now, we had a major water main break, so we have no water at work. Nice to be home and working instead.

Pam -- I have a big powerpoint that I need to gussy up but I have ms office small buz. on laptop, so I have to go buy a copy of powerpoint. I hate that.

Its 65 degrees here. My lawn crocii are blooming and the hellebores are starting. The sarcacocca is lovely and the dog hates me because I am not walking him.

I guess I could think of my topic for my research paper while walking him....

later,

lala

Lisa --

I can't pm you, but I cropped your picture, so I guess I'll try adding it to my profile (no, i'm not a striking 6' blonde!) and you can save it and add it back to yours.

How is that for complicated?

It's supposed to be in the 60's today. Tomorrow's off Friday, so I'll be getting my hair colored and conducting a wedding rehearsal. I'm the wedding coordinator at my church.

lala, thanks for cropping the photo. I tried to use it; let's see if it worked.

MelissaL 01-20-2005 09:18 AM

Lisa: You look great! The blonde hair looks natural for you--it's always nice to put a face to a name :) Sounds like you're really busy. Like you, I like dipping pretzels in nutella (I warm it just a bit)...yum! Enjoy the warmer temps...it's a chilly 17 here this morning.

Lala: One of the schools here had a water main break yesterday so the kids were off--common occurrence this time of year with the temps bouncing around. Did you get your powerpoint presentation done? Sounds like you're having nice temps too! Over our last nice spell I spotted the daffodils starting to poke up...hopefully they'll be okay with the freezing temps we've been experiencing.

Pam: Yes, I've lived here all my life and sometimes I question why I put up with the winter weather. My best friend moved to FL right after we graduated from h.s. to get away from it. I do like the changing seasons, it's the sunless days of winter that get me. It's supposed to get even colder later today and tomorrow it's only supposed to get into the low teens if we're lucky! More snow is on the horizon as well *sigh* I can't wait for Spring!!!

Susan: Congrats on the loss!!! Your hard work is paying off for you. How many days until your trip??? I'm planning on heading to FL in May, just need to nail down exactly when. Bummer on having to wear glasses again--DS #1 has worn glasses since he was 5 and wears contacts now. I know he'd probably like to have the laser surgery but the cost is so high and the insurance doesn't cover it here.

I'm getting caught up with some things that have been hanging so that's a good feeling. DS #2 has kept us running with basketball games/practices--I think tonight we have a reprieve. No major plans for the weekend so I'm hoping to get things done around the house that I've been putting off. I did make it to my meeting yesterday (although the thought did cross my mind to skip it because the weather was so nasty & the roads were icy) and was pleasantly surprised to be down .2! I'm not complaining because my activity has been limited. I'm hoping that next week will be a little better. I'm slowly getting back to where I want to be.

Hi everyone,

Up earrrrrrrly even though my flight doesn't leave until noon thirty. The heating contractor is supposed to come between 7-8:30 to see why my house doesn't cool down. The heat has been off since yesterday am and its still about 65 in here. I opened some windows in the kitchen and upstairs and all the radiators are off but the two main ones. I know the boiler is not chugging away because I can't see any steam. I am just concerned I am paying alot for something with some issues.

I hate issues.

I need to go to kinkos and get about 200 pages of reading copied. I have the book for my seminar, but honestly, its like 700 pages long and I only need 200. I really don't want to have to lug the whole thing with me, but if he doesn't show up in a timely manner, that is my fate.

Melissa -- I tried to sexy up someone elses powerpoint and its sooo dry that I can't do it justice. I'll try and add some sexy tsunami maps on Tuesday.

Lisa -- I think I can make your avatar bigger, but the problem is that you are not the center of attention in the picture. Have DH take a picture of you that is a bit more of a close up and I can make it a bit larger. I think I would lose too much resolution if I tried to blow it up.

FWIW, I use a freeware package called irfanview for cropping pictures and exporting to other file formats. Its quite lovely and free and user friendly.

Thanks for all your QOTD responses. I am having a hard time getting motivated to do anything. I dragged myself to the gym this am, the first time since Monday. This is unlike me.

PFTW: Walk around london, go shopping, go to paris, look at Le Corbusier's Salvation army building and some worker's housing for my seminar, plant annuals at my aunts, eat indian food, drink, buy a new purse and eat too much.

I'll be back on Monday. Keep safe everyone. Hopefully I'll make it out today, weather permitting in Chicago.

Good morning.

Another nasty storm is pounding us; they've just cancelled schools for the second time this week. Glad I got my run in this morning on the treadmill before work because I certainly wouldn't be doing it outside later on today.

Pam: My doctor says that if you're going to regress from laser surgery, it will be during the first year. I'd say you have little to worry about unless, like me, you develop some other problem like cataracts. My allergies have made contacts out of the question, so I'm left with glasses as the only option. Hope you knocked em dead with the presentation.

Melissa: Insurance doesn't pay for laser here either. I had it done in the early days before they came out with the $999 per eye specials, so it was big, big bucks for the procedure. I've never regretted it though. Congrats on the loss.

lala: Did the dog shame you into a walk yesterday?

Lisa: Glad someone is getting decent weather.

DH is heading home for his Dad's 90th birthday celebration this weekend. I have (gracefully, I hope) bowed out. I have a lot of things to catch up on, hair appointment, baby visits, etc. I also went to get my head around packing for my trip and we have plans for next weekend so this is my chance.

Domina 01-20-2005 10:51 AM

Thanks for the nice comments about my hair. I really like it; it was a big change for me.

I'm so sorry many of you are having such poor weather. That's why I'm glad I don't live up north anymore. Those gray days made me feel gray!

lala, have a grand time in London and Paris; I'm so envious. One of these days...

Susan, sounds like you're doing great.

Melissa, how's the neck/back? Congrats on your loss.

lalala 01-20-2005 10:56 AM

heating contractor came by, we need a check valve and then we'll be back to normal. The two main radiators are just recirculating our domestic hot water and that is why its soo bloody hot and never cools down at night. The good thing, I'm not paying for this heat, the bad thing, its too hot.

okay, i'm off to copy many pages of architectural criticism.

Domina 01-20-2005 03:51 PM

lala, sounds like a simple fix to your heating system. Too hot is not a good thing.

How nice to have flowers blooming.

McHoney 01-20-2005 05:04 PM

Hi Ladies,

Nothing is blooming in New England. Tomorrow the weather is predicted to reach -4. The presentation went really well today but I am exhausted. Pulling it all together got very stressful this morning. One more meeting early tomorrow morning and then I can coast for a little while.

Lala have a nice trip. Glad the new heater was a relatively easy fix. If my heating system gives out this week I'm in big trouble.

Lisa I bet being a wedding coordinator can be somewhat stessful at times?? Does it keep you pretty busy?

Melissa my best friend moved to NC for the same reason 7 years ago. I'm seriously thinking of joining her.

Susan yes I also spent a lot on the laser surgery but it was so worth it. It is so nice to wake up in the morning and actually be able to see without putting on glasses.

Well ladies time to go home. I may be back with more later.

MelissaL 01-21-2005 09:23 AM

Morning ladies! It's a chilly 9 degrees here this morning and the outlook isn't much better. A snowstorm is supposed to hit by tomorrow morning and depending the wind we could get anywhere from 4-12"! I'm hoping the winds shift and it misses us. I'm thinking I need to go and rent a movie or two since TV offerings are limited these days. It'll be a good reason to stay indoors. Now to get motivated to get some things done!

Pam: I can't imagine moving now but who knows--maybe later down the road I'll change my mind.

Lala: Safe travels! I'm sure the weather will be better than what we're experiencing here.

Lisa: Hats off to you with wedding planning. I helped my girlfriend plan her wedding and we still joke about how I used to carry her briefcase with all her wedding stuff in it from place to place. We had a great time with it but it certainly can be stressful.

Susan: I think we're gonna get pounded like you did--I'm hoping not. Sounds like you have a busy weekend planned. DH has a free RT ticket that he has to use by March so he and 2 of his buddies are heading to LA on the 11th of February to watch a rugby tournament.

I have therapy today at noon and have to admit my back is feeling quite a bit better. I'm not going to do anything major so that I regress and hurt the muscles again. I'm hoping to get another ultrasound/heat treatment. More later.
