2 Questions for a newbie
 
Just started WW last week, so I'm very new to this. Still not ready to ask much in the group, unfortunatly I'm a little shy...sooo, couple of quick questions..
1) What is a reasonable goal?? Weekly I mean. I'm hoping for 1 to 1 1/2lbs per week. Is that asking too much? I realize at some point I will hit a platuea and that will not happen every week, but for the vast majority of time is that reasonable??

2) If my husband is doing the program also, does he need to registar and go through all that, or is it possible for him to just eat what I feed him :lol:? We can't go to meetings together, but I think I could convince him to go to one at his work, maybe. Is it important for him to do this the right way also??

Hi Stacey!
I am a lifetime member of WW, and I do know that the WW leaders stress not to lose more than 2 pounds per week. However, some weeks you may lose more, and many weeks you will lose less, or even gain a little.Don't worry about it. Just follow the program and you should do fine. Yes, most members of WW go through a period whereby they reach a plateau. Yes, and it is indeed frustrating. But don't worry about this either, because eventually, this too will change.

As for your hubby, he can just eat like you, and you can explain the program to him. If they have WW at work, I would encourage him to join though. This way, he will, hopefully, enjoy losing the weight not only with you but also his co-workers.

Carol is correct..WWer members can expect 1-2 pounds weekly. Many lose more than that the first 3 weeks.after 3 weeks if you lose more than 2 pounds a week it could cause some health problems and WW is required to tell you about rapid weight lose and the dangers of it.

The goal you have set for yourself sounds very realistic!

Of course your husband can follow right along with you...........many members
talk about their family at home that are losing. Just remember men tend to lose quicker.....so try not to resent it! Be glad he is willing to follow the plan with you! ;)

The info about how much to expect to lose is in your Welcome Book from WWers. It isnt a "Leaders Rule".it is an official Weight Watcher guideline.

Cin is right. Men definitely do lose weight quite a bit faster than us gals, but don't let that frustrate you! My DH just ate what I served him, and of course, the pounds fell off of him much faster than me. Instead of giving up, his "loss" just pushed me that much more to take off those unwanted pounds! It worked too!! :) Iwasn't going to let him show me up!!! :)

Hi Stacey, congrats on joining WW and for thinking clearly and positively about your goals. I have been 'doing' WW since Jan 04, and on average have lost about 1.5 per week. Some weeks it's a bit more some weeks quite a bit less, but at least its weight lost.
My hubby decided a couple of weeks after I started that it was time for him to lose a few pounds also. He decided to follow my lead and 'do' WW also. He couldn't go to meetings, but would read all the literature I brought home with me every week. He would also journal every mouthful he ate, which as we all know, is the way to keep losing consistently. He lost about 17 pounds, quite easily, and is now at a healthy weight for him. He still journals now too, even though not really trying to lose any more, but it helps him maintain what he's lost through all his hard work. If he didn't keep writing down all things that entered his mouth, then he would put the weight straight back on because he's not too disciplined normally. But he's doing fine. He's never been interested in the slightest about losing weight or becoming healthier, but this time he's made the effort and is glad that he did. If he can do it, anyone can.
I do find that if I prepare the main meal, work out the points, then it's easier for him and me also. Some people end up cooking 2 meals, but that makes it so much more likely to lose the plot and go off the programme by cheating, but at least if you are eating the same, you can both benefit, even if you end up writing down his points for a while (a long while in my case!)

Anyway, I wish you luck, You are on the right track, enjoy WW, and it will change your life.
