finishing second day on ww with daughter

  • Well, this past Tuesday both my daughter and I joined ww. I really like the leader. She has the same name as me (Cathy) and she's real spunky. I was a bit overwhelmed after the meeting so we didn't officially start the ww plan until Wed. I find it not as easy as I thought it would be only because I am now accountable for what I put in my mouth. My daughter is doing fine but that is mostly because she's home. School doesn't start until this coming Tuesday at which point she'll be on her own for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacking. I don't know how well she'll do then. She hasn't eaten well at school before and taking her lunch to school is out of the question. Luckily enough the school has a salad bar that she can fill up on that. I'll probably have to set out a snack for after school and hopefully she won't sneak anything else to eat. We bought a treadmill and it was delivered on Monday. I thought I did really well on the elliptical but the treadmill seems harder believe it or not. On the ellipitical I can get as fast as 4.5 mph with spurts of 5 mph for an hour. Tuesday I used the treadmill for an hour and the fastest I could go was 2.7 mph. Wed I used the treadmill again and this time I figured out how to select a program...I selected the weight loss program which you have an elevation of 1 and 2. By the end of Wed night my shins and knees were killing me. I had a work physical on Thurs and the doc told me that it was probably because I was using an elevation which can cause shin splints if you are not used to it. I used the treadmill for an hour today with no elevation and it's quite a difference. I don't feel sore at all. I am getting my daughter on the treadmill because she claimed that the stationary bike and the elliptical were too much for her. She's used it but not for long. Hopefully she'll start using it more. As for food, we are trying real hard to stay within the daily points. It'll be easier once I start working again...that's next week. My daughter, that remains to be seen. When she doesn't want to do something she digs in her heels so deep that you are lucky if you move her an inch. I'll let you all know on Thursday what our first full week on ww has been like and the results. Good luck to all of you and take care!!

  • good luck cathy. glen
  • thanks. Today was tough in that it was soooo hot and humid and a big bowl of cold ice cream would have tasted reallllll good. But, alas, I did not give in to the need. .

  • Don't be too hard on yourself on the treadmill. The consistency and time on it are what burns the fat and calories! 2.7 sounds like a good walking speed to me!
  • Cathy,
I hope your weekend is going well. I know it can be hard to stay on program. But it will definitely be worth it when you and your daughter go for that first weigh in! Is your daughter in high school? Its great that you are doing this together!
I am just starting my 2nd day on the program- I have done it and had BIG success in the past. Pregnancy and laziness have caused me to need to do it again, and it is motivating to read the posts of people like yourself who are just beginning.
Good luck- and if you ever want to chat, I am around!
  • I have just started back to WW after about a yr of being off the wagon.
The first couple of weeks are the hardest. I think its getting your mind set.
I have found out that I do better if I kind of ease into the exercise.
If you push yourself to hard at first you will tend to get to overwhelmed.
Try to stick to the food plan at first and add the exercise in a little at a time.
Of course I am one to give advice, ha! Seeing that I am starting over again. Anyway, good luck!
  • Hi Cathy,

I have also restarted WW. I am a lifetime member who kept the weight off for a few years, then gradually allowed myself to gain it all back plus more!
I have been going to WW for several months, but really didn't get on track until a week ago. I followed the flex plan and lost 4.2. I was shocked. You can do it. Just go to the meetings they really do help!
    to you Cathy.
