Giving up anything for lent?

I have given up obsessing about weighing myself. I would jump on every morning and then sabotage or reward myself. During Lent I'm weighing myself every 10 days. What a relief it's been and I actually feeling like I've lost since the clothes are getting roomier. Yesterday my son asked if something was wrong with my wonderful Tanita scale cuz it was reading 'E' for the past 4-5 days. Since I haven't been on it, I had no idea. Guess I'll find out if the batteries need replacing on Saturday.

wine and other 'drinks'

i am giving up alchoholic beverages for lent. 6 weeks, and I think the benefits will be great, in many ways...just a freshening up. It's Spring! And, this is a wonderful time to do it.

I'm not Catholic, I'm methodist, but we observe Lent also. I'm giving up cokes this year, my cousin did about three years ago and still doesn't drink them.
Kudos to every one giving up chocolate, I don't think I could do it.

Casey, another Methodist here.

I am giving up potato chips of all sorts. I really like the whole process and it does help me to focus on the reason for Lent.

I know that lots of people use Sunday for a "day off" from fasting.

Lent

I don't give up anything for Lent. I try something a tad difficult. Like staying on program for the entire period of time. Which can be a challenge when the Cadbury eggs are seductively whispering my name as I try to get past the candy aisle without being noticed. That darn stuff has the tendency to leap into my cart! :)

I thought instead of "giving something up", I might try to add something positive. I have been wanting to start some strength training to my exercise regime, but haven't felt motivated to do it. I think I will try to do 2-3 sessions per week.

My whole family gave up our evening snack. So far, it has worked out great. My husband and I have lost 2 lbs. My son has lost 3.5. My daughter won't weigh herself, but she's been getting a great night's sleep because she is so bored not eating, that she just goes to bed earlier!!

We do have a snack on Sunday evening. Just our family "tradition".
