Whoops, we were posting at the same time Melissa. A pound at this time of month isn't really a gain, is it?? I'm sure you'll be back down next week.

lalala 01-28-2004 02:40 PM

I will have to agree with Susan :).

Off to my weight watchers meeting to listen and try and learn something. I'm not too crazy about doing fast track and not getting to eat my activity points. I earn four a day, I would be really only eating 16 pts a day. That just doesn't seem right.

I agree with you lala re Fast Track and APs. I gave it some serious thought and decided it just wouldn't be enough food for me.

How are you feeling today Idealperson? How is your daughter?

Hi to Melissa, Domina. I'm feeling really discouraged today after hitting a big of potato chips pretty hard last nite. Don't know why I'm not motivated to get and stay on program.

MelissaL 01-29-2004 11:09 AM

Lala/Seasaw: Given the amount of exercise you both do, I'd use the AP's and follow everything else with the Fast Track. You don't want to send your body into a tailspin!

Susan: I feel your pain about the chips--Sunday night after being delayed on the plane, over hungry, stressed, I hit the chips/dip as well. The sad part is they didn't even taste good and I continued to eat them!!!

A pound is not bad considering TOM is due next Saturday. I'm watching my sodium and making sure I drink extra water to help combat the water retention. I've been doing a lot of snow shoveling so I'm not lacking exercise..we got another 4-6" last evening. This is getting old fast!

Idealperson 01-29-2004 01:59 PM

Hello and thanks for the kind words. I am very sore today and so is DD, though she went back to school anyway. We are looking for a new car and then I will have her driving again. I am taking shots of Cortisone and therapy for my arm, they haven't mention surgery, and I'd do anything else first anyway! Right now it is sooo cold here in Wisconsin-like a minus 13 degrees and I can't get my coat on! Have a great OP day and stay warm!

lalala 01-29-2004 02:28 PM

Hi Ideal,

Glad to hear you are sort of on the mend. Take it easy okay.

Nothing doing here. I did pretty well until I got home from a lecture last night and had some brownie bits mixed in with nonfat plain yoghurt. Hey, it could have been worse, it could have been ice cream, right?

I have the keys to my parent's new digs in Seattle and god knows when they are actually going to come up here and consider furnishing and decorating it.

I'm taking my friend over at lunch and see what he thinks. I see some grout sealing and painting in my future. :)

Ideal: Take it easy and rest up! Hopefully the shoulder will get better. The soreness is the worst! I feel your pain with the weather--it's a cool 9 here this morning (feels like -4 according to the weather service). It's supposed to "warm up" over the weekend to maybe 30.

Lala: Yogurt with some brownie bits is definitely better than the ice cream so you did good!

I have a full weekend--work tonight at WW, tomorrow I have a WW staff meeting and I'm cooking for a gun raffle for a drum & bugle corps, Sunday working at WW in the morning and hopefully I'll be able to get to the mall and check out some luggage for my trip. 28 days and counting ladies :D

So what's on your agenda for the weekend??

Domina 01-30-2004 12:43 PM

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't been posting, but I've gotten slammed at work. We had some cold weather here--39 degrees at night and low 60's during the day. That means we Floridians have to wear sweaters and jackets. No snow and ice, thank God. I can't stand that stuff.

Ideal--welcome to our group. Congrats on the weight loss--woohoo! I hope you and your daughter are improving. What a scary happening.

Melissa, I really dislike getting weighed during TOM. It just doesn't seem fair somehow.

lala, make sure you are taking your zinc. Alka Seltzer Cold medicine also seems to take the edge off cold symptoms.

Susan, the heart rate monitor sounds interesting. I need to discuss that with my DH who is a marathoner as you know.

Well, this weekend I'm working at the church rummage sale ($1 a bag day). On Sunday I have a rehearsal for an upcoming concert (Handel's Messiah). Then it's Super Bowl!! I'm going to root for Carolina because they're the underdogs.

Have a good weekend.

Hi everyone,

Things here are okay. It was sooo windy last night. I was quite pleased to wake up to a less blustery day.

Melissa -- How long are you going for? I can make it for about seven days with my 22" rollaboard. Last trip (short), I made it with a 19" and its was empty on the return. I am now using those vacuum bags and they are great for smalls and softwear. I can't remember if I told you, but for the first time in 30 trips to London I had my bag searched on the way back. They were disappointed with my two books, dvds and box of chocolates. :) Remember, most English hotels have heated towel racks, they are great for drying smalls.

Have fun with your gun raffle. Make sure its not loaded.

Domina -- Stay warm. I have to say that I will stay away from the superbowl, but I am happy for those who will keep them selves amused for five hours.

I love the Messiah. You must have a beautiful voice.

My friend also suggested zinc, so I'll pick up some at Trader Joe's this weekend.

Susan -- How goes it?

Okay, my friend from DC is here this weekend, I am going out to dinner tonight. Give me strength.

Domina: Glad to hear things are going well! We were wondering what was happening. That is cold weather for Florida. Today it's a chilly 12. I'm rooting for the underdog as well...Go Carolina!!

Lala: I'm going to be gone 7 days (2/28-3/6). We're allowed one check in bag and 1 carry on. Where did you find the vacuum bags? I've heard about them. Also, what type of clothes would you suggest? I'm not planning on clubbing but want to look nice and not too touristy

lalala 01-30-2004 02:24 PM

Melissa --

You'll be flying two of the those days, so I would suggest comfortable dark stretchy pants (not that you need the stretch, but you know how things wrinkle). I would suggest two pairs of darkish pants, I would say chinos or light wool pants (can be chilly there), a skirt for the theater, a turtleneck, a twin set in something like merino wool, two shirts for going out to dinner, a nice t-shirt to wear with a cardigan with your twin set and pants. I would pack a pair of comfortable walking shoes that can do double duty for going to the theater or dinner and depending on the weather, boots for walking. I have always over packed and regretted it. I am learning, as things like books, cosmetics (fun stuff they don't have here) and little odds and bobs take up room.

This time I wore a turtleneck on the plane with jeans and a pair of puma driving shoes. For dinner out I wore a pull over grey cashmere sweater and jeans with boots (I trashed my boots, so I do not recommend kitten heels in London for all day tromping. :( ). I wore a tshirt, the same sweater and yoga pants with the same shoes on the return flight home. I was very er, casual, but very comfortable.

I never ever in my years of living in Seattle have carried an umbrella, but I do in London. :) I also tend to wear a 3/4 length wool coat that works well for informal and formal occasions. If its going to warmer (check before you leave), I would opt for a
raincoat with a liner. I usually carry one or two scarves (one small pashmina and one nice foulard to dress things up) and my trusty hat.

I usually take a medium size tote for my essentials on the plane (my new laptop bag) and then a smaller purse for going out. I never carry all my money, passport, credit card with me. I leave that in the hotel safe. My bag usually has a bit of money, ATM card, one credit card and my cell phone, camera, umbrella and map.

My taller half has been known to say "lala, we are visiting a first world country, if you don't have it, you can get it there" and she is right. You are staying near Whiteley's (one of the first true department stores in London), now its a mall and it has pretty much everything a girl could need.

Those bags, I got at our containers/storables store. I know I have seen them at Target. I think they are the vacuum bags that you can use to store linens etc, they are pretty handy if you don't mind ironing.

Oh, you don't probably need a hairdryer. They usually have them in your room.

Good Friday afternoon everyone. Work is winding down and it looks like not a bad weekend temperature wise. I may even get to run outside on Sunday if this keeps up.

Heart Rate Monitor Report: Did a 5k this morning before work using HRM as a guide. Took me 42 minutes!!! I have never run so slowly! This will require a complete change in mindset and will likely rule out the possibility of ever running with my sister again. I don't think she'd have the patience to plod along with me. Anyway, I'm hoping that my fitness level will improve fairly quickly otherwise it's gonna be a long, long half-marathon!

Melissa: I didn't realize your trip was so close. How exciting!

lala: I'm doing fine, thank you. No big plans for the weekend. We're going to crash a party on Saturday night :D but I'll have to behave cause we run 9 km beginning at 8:30 Sunday morning.

Domina: DH is having some friends over for the Superbowl. I don't even know who's playing  There will no doubt be lots of roars from the basement. I'm gonna hide out in my room with earplugs and a good book. I hope it's warmed up; we northerners fare much better in cold weather and that's the way it should be.

Ideal: How is your arm? Did you find a car yet?

Have a great weekend all. I don't know if I'll weigh in tomorrow. I know the scale has not moved. Sigh.
