TFL - Week of October 6, 2003

Hi everyone!

Here it is Monday morning and the sun is shining here! Woohoo! The temps are supposed to be better this week with highs in the 60's--more typical for this time of year. I'm looking forward to getting out and walking over my lunch hour.

The weekend went well for the most part; I need to keep busy and out of the kitchen in th evenings because I tend to eat even though I'm not hungry.

So how was everyone's weekend?

Seasaw 10-06-2003 09:44 AM

Hi Melissa. The sun is shining here too, although temps are quite a bit cooler in the past few days. Perfect for running.

I had a good weekend. We continue to clean up brush and debris from the storm. DH and a few friends are having a chainsaw party this afternoon to get at some of the larger trees in the back yard. We'll have a supply of firewood for years to come :)

Bad day yesterday as far as eating goes. I tried to weigh-in on Saturday but my WW centre still had no power. I believe I would have been down from my last weigh-in, but things got a little out of control yesterday so I'll have to work hard this week. I ran out of journals and am considering using an old bank book :D

Canadian Thanksgiving is this coming weekend. I'll be heading for New Brunswick to visit my parents and hope to get weighed on Friday before I leave.

lalala 10-06-2003 11:51 AM

Hiya darlings,

Melissa - glad to see temperatures have moderated. We have expected highs around 62, however, I put the flannel sheets on the bed anyways. The cat appreciated that I closed the upstairs windows too.

Susan -- I forgot about Thanksgiving. I hope you have a nice time! Its great that you and your friends can help eachother out. As for the eating and weighing in, this is sort of a over the top time of stress, no? I think all of the greater halifax/dartmouth area can cut themselves some slack. However, don't forget to count chainsawing as activity points. :)

Nothing going on here, I have a strange cold that is going around here. Its definitely lodged in my chest and I'm about to lose my voice. Good thing I don't have any public speaking engagements this week. DP is also now sick (lots of finger pointing here) and we're both too busy to slow down.

Domina - hiya!

Hope everyone is easing into Monday!

Hello everyone!

Melissa, your weather sounds great. It's still in the 80's here. SIL is visiting this week (arriving today) from Seattle and I'm not sure how she will take the heat.

Susan, I can't believe there are still places without power. What a shame. At least you can look on the bright side, i.e. more firewood.

lala, sorry you're sick. That's the pits. If and when I get a cold (rarely) I tend to lose my voice. That's not good when you're a singer.

I had my WI last night and was up 1#. I started to get upset because at home on my usually accurate scale, I was down 1#. I decided that it was nothing to stress over, just move on. So, I ordered some more golf clubs and told DH later. He didn't seem to mind; they're not expensive ones. I was still borrowing clubs from a former coworker and I do want to return them.

Hi all.

Another gorgeous fall day here. I'm feeling quite energized and have all kinds of chores that I want to tackle at home - decluttering and the like.

Domina: I like your attitude. Formerly fat folks are likely the only ones to obsess about gaining (or losing) 1 lb. It's nothing in the grand scheme of things. Hope the visit goes well. Enjoy those new clubs!

lala: Feeling any better today? My allergies are completely under control since I buckled down and started taking the prescribed medication (go figure). It's such a relief.

Melissa: Are you getting lots of walking in? I'm sorry to say I haven't been running much. The thought of jumping fallen trees and power lines just isn't that appealing :( I hope to get out tonite after work for a short one around the neighbourhood.

lalala 10-07-2003 12:07 PM

Hi everyone,

Sorry a bit long.

Still a bit froggy. Had to give the dog a bedtime story so he would fall asleep and not get up and eat the cat food, but I made sure it was a short one. :)

Domina -- :) good on ya for getting the golf clubs. You'll get that pesky lb. off next week. I agree with Susan, its definitely a ww thing to obsess over a lb.

Melissa -- We were talking about food today in our meeting, I mentioned meal planning, but we really should have focused on once the meal is over and the kitchen is closed. How do we enforce that. Honestly, last night I was soo whooped after work and class, I had a bowl of cereal and called it art. Had I stayed on the main floor of the house, I would have been hoovering baba ganoush with baked chips too!

Susan -- Glad to hear you are energized to declutter! Take it easy though, burn out is ugly.

My decluttering story:

I did a big closet clean out last night. I have eight pairs of pants to give to the local women's shelter, a small pile of cashmere/wool sweaters that I will gift to my friends and another small pile that I am going to keep and think about.

Found two black skirts lurking in my closet, was going to buy a new one, now I don't have too. Just need to lose 4#.

I managed to get rid of two of those rubbermaid boxes that fit underneath the bed. No reason to put your clutter in boxes, time to get rid of that stuff. I'll give the boxes to a friend who still keeps her clutter.

Ditto for shoes, let go of three pairs of running shoes and three pairs of work/dress shoes. Now if I could only feel that way about purses. I have a small fortune invested in longchamp/coach/furla/italian purses. None of them are terrible out of style, I guess I just need to look in my own closet before purchasing another thing!

Weighed in this am -- down 1.6#.

whoo hoo..

lala: You are definitely heading in the right direction - weight and clutter wise. Kudos!

The weather continues to cooperate with my walking and the temps are gorgeous (low 60's) so it's perfect weather to be heading outside for walking. I've gotten 2 good walks in over the lunch hour. Tomorrow I have my meeting so I won't be able to go on my lunch hour but I can squeeze in a quick 15-minute walk on a break so I'll do that instead.

Domina: Good for you for not letting the scale dictate how you feel. It's hard to do sometimes but if you can move forward it's better all the way around. Next week will be better!

Susan: I'm enjoying being able to get outside and walk and the sunshine helps too! The weather is supposed to stay nice through the weekend.

Lala: Congrats on the weight loss! Heading into the kitchen after dinner can be dangerous. What I need to do is keep myself busy. Lately I've been fighting the urge to bulk up for hibernation  Good for you on the decluttering! I need to continue to move forward and I'm taking baby steps. I'd love to have a marathon but I know that only leads to burnout so I'll continue taking baby steps. I've gotten rid of some clothes and shoes that I know I'll never wear and it's a good feeling. My next project is to work in our spare room that holds all the old toys my kids have outgrown. *sigh*

Not much else going on here--working at WW tonight and am trying to figure out what I want for dinner that won't send me looking for something else.

Domina 10-08-2003 12:42 PM

The visit with SIL is going well so far. The hard part is that I don't know her that well. I've probably seen her about 5 times in my life. Our niece took right to our birds and the unfriendly ones liked her (they don't like me!)

lala, decluttering feels so good when it's done. I probably need to do that, too. Actually, on Monday, I wore a skirt that was a holdover from "fat" days; forgot it was big. So I'm giving it to Goodwill (unless I hold a garage sale). Regarding your purses, send them my way; can never have enough purses and shoes.;)
Also, good on ya for the weight loss. What's your secret?

Susan, I am so sorry your area is still a disaster area. I can tell you that debris wouldn't stop my husband from running because he is a running nut.

Melissa, I'm glad you're getting some walking in.

MelissaL 10-08-2003 01:55 PM

Hi all!

The weather outside is absolutely delightful! It's a perfect Fall day with temps hovering at 73! I was on my way back from my WW meeting at noon and the thought crossed my mind to keep going! I don't know that my boss would've appreciated it but it sure was tempting!

I stayed the same this week and I'm okay with that. I would've loved to have posted a loss but I know that I was eating a lot of carb/fat stuff that I normally don't. The walking must've balanced things out. In any case, today begins a fresh week and I'm going to focus on making sure I get more protein with each of my meals so I feel satisfied.

I've also got to work on staying busy in the evening. The past week it was too easy to plop my butt on the couch and stay there.

Susan: I hope the cleanup is going well! Just think of the AP's you're getting!

Domina: It's got to be hard having to entertain someone you don't know all that well. I've found it's easier to give my stuff to goodwill rather than hang onto it for a garage sale in the future. I never end up having one and the stuff is just moved from one part of the house to another.

lalala 10-08-2003 02:53 PM

Hi there,

Domina --

Time to get your stuff to a women's shelter who can really use your clothes and you can use a tax receipt. If you have nice clothes for work that you want to donate, try dressforsuccess.org.

Glad to hear the visit is going okay. The weather here is definitely changing, so good thing your SIL gets to experience a little more summer. :)

Melissa -- I understand the refined carb issue. I can't believe the amount of refined crud I've been eating recently. Its time to reassess my food cravings.

I would love to be in 73 degree weather. I'm soo pooped from being sick that I may just go home and crash. I have class tonight from 6-9, so I need my strength to understand what the instructor is droning on about.

Susan -- How are things going? Are you back at work?

Well, I managed to get about 1/2 our basement closet (mine really) cleaned out, if the room is to serve as a guest room I suppose it would be sporting to give the guests somewhere to put their clothing, right?

My goal is to just have my shoes/purses and a few hanging dresses in the closet. I'm having a hard time letting nice clothes, dresses mostly) go. I guess I could consign them. I am thinking that keeping one red nice dress, two print, two suits and two black cocktail dresses are the best bet, eh?

Other than that, I suppose I should try and compile my programs. I don't understand how I can speak languages, but programming is soo hard.

Hi everyone,

I'm still feeling quite under the weather, but I can't stay home. Its a bit irritating really.

Anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend? I have 500 bulbs that need to go into the ground. :D. The squirrels need to have something to dig up right?

lala

MelissaL 10-10-2003 09:24 AM

Good morning!

Lala: You gave me a nice chuckle this morning with "the squirrels need something to dig up"...they're so cut but can cause so many problems!

No major plans here for the weekend. I really need to tackle some home projects. I know once I get going that I'll be motivated it's just getting going. I'm working tonight and Sunday morning at WW but other than that the weekend is quiet.

The weather is still holding up--yesterday it was 75 and today's it's supposed to be a little cooler. Sunday it's supposed to rain and then the cooler temps will be back. I've been getting out at noon walking and it's felt so good! Today I'm getting my hair trimmed over the lunch hour and I'm looking forward to some pampering :)

Hi to Domina, Susan, Scoutruns, Austin!

lalala 10-10-2003 02:37 PM

Melissa --
I hate squirrels and love bulbs. However, chicken wire, havahart traps and pepper seems to work at dettering them.

Have a great trim. I'm due for one, but am holding out until London in two weekends.

I have work to do all weekend, but then I'm going to drop off some clothes to the shelter and put the rest of the garden to bed.

Take care all!

Let's see, we're taking SIL and niece to the Kennedy Space Center on Saturday. I'm looking forward to it also as I have not been there for a long time and it has changed. On Sunday we'll probably go shopping and to the beach. DH has to work.

It's still warm here--85.
