TERRI, Thanks for the new thread. We needed it!

This has to be quick - I'm at work. Just stopped in to say that I was pretty good on the weekend. Kept busy, stayed away from munchies for the most part. Went to the Y and swam.

It's supposed to snow again, and get very cold again. Sure seems like winter's been really long this year.

New Week ... New Committment to good health.

I'll try to get back later.
Have a good, OP day ladies!

Chillin 02-11-2003 12:07 AM

Susie - welcome, I saw your post on the last thread. A leader of mine used to say "fake it until you make it". Start each day with the idea that you will be OP. If you fail, start the next day. Eventually it will click again for you, but the main thing is not to give up.

I'm heading for the mountains tomorrow, gonna try a snowshoe trail. I'm a little nervous because I haven't been on this trail before, but it seems pretty straight forward. Be looking for me on the news tomorrow night as "woman lost in CO mountains", .

Terri in MO 02-12-2003 08:14 AM

Hi ladies,

I'm here. Just been busy trying to get all the tax stuff to the tax man. Food has been okay - could be better but could be a lot worse too.

Our weekend at the couples retreat was great. Then on Sunday, went with a friend to see Chicago. I loved it! So its been a busy few days. That's cut into my exercise and planning meals time.

I'm late for work. Have a great OP day!

Terri in MO 02-13-2003 07:58 AM

Good morning!

Thursday already! The weeks sure do fly by these days.

Nothing new to report.

J-Ann - Did you get more snow? We are so despearate for moisture. I think we've had a total of maybe six inches for the whole season. Our yard is so dry there is dust. We may actually get rain tomorrow - at least won't have to shovel that!! How are you doing with the journal? Still getting in your water workouts?

Cynthia - How was the snowshoe trail? That has to be great exercise. DH remarked the other day about how he had grabbed onto a certain hunk flesh during the night and how he could feel the muscle underneath. DH is a boob man! Then he felt around on my shoulders and arms and was impressed. I have FINALLY built up muscle in my upper body. Isn't it wonderful to feel how your body does respond to all the exercise? It is such a great feeling to be doing things that are "athletic". You go girl!

Everyone else - where are you?? Its lonely without the big group of people we used to have. Come on in! We all need support, to rant, to cry, to feel the joy of success. Come out, come out from where ever you are!

Better get ready for work. have a great OP day!

j-ann 02-13-2003 04:05 PM

Excuse my version of cursing but GEEZUS! I,m beginning to dislike winter. Drove to work in a blizzard yesterday AM then it cleared of and was cold and beautiful. Started snowing on the way to work this morning. It took me an hour to get home. Usually takes 15 -20 min. About 10 miles. It was awful. I left early figuring the roads might be in decent shape for the school buses. The plows can't keep up. It vwas like nighttime and it was 2 o'clock! I could barely see the guy in front of me. TERRI: We'll have MORE WATER than we'll know what to do with when this melts. We live on top of a hill but I'll bet the basement turns into a pond if it ever warms up. :)
Journaling has been so so but I've purged the house of the stuff I get into and, due to a family emergency, every one else is in Buffalo for about a week so I'm home alone and basically loving it, except for the shoveling and the fact that, once again tonight, I'll miss my class at the Y. It's 15 miles one way and I'm NOT going back out.

TERRI: WOOOO!!! MUSCLE! That's a word I like to hear. YOU GO GAL!

CYNTHIA: Hope you enjoyed snowshoeing. Bet you were sore.

SUSIE: Welcome back.

JEN: WHERE ARE YOU???? WE MISS YOU. COME ON BACK.

Chillin 02-13-2003 05:01 PM

Terri - welcome back. Glad you had a good time. Unfortunately it was way too windy for me to snowshoe - felt like I was getting sandpapered with all the debris floating around. I'll have to try again next week. Sounds like you are turning into one buff chick!! I just started getting back into my weight lifting routine last week, so hopefully in a couple of months I'll have some results worth showing.

j-ann - sorry about that snow. Driving here is bad now due to all the influx of people born in places without snow. Used to be no biggie, now it can take an hour to get through a 10 minute drive.

I MADE MY 10% TODAY!!! And I did it before V-day like I wanted. I'm putting my 25-lb. magnet into DH's V-day card and promising him more to come, lol.:D We don't have any real plans for the day, just see what develops :s: .

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

I'm staying home. It's still snowing and I talked to a friend at work so I know someone's there to cover any "fires" that may arise. I going back to bed and then I'm going out to shovel ... shovel ... shovel.

Cynthia: Congrats on that 10%.:bravo: :cloud9: :flow1: It's a milestone conquered on your journey.

Have a great day ladies.

Chillin 02-14-2003 04:03 PM

 Happy Valentine's Day to you guys as well. DH and I are gonna cook a special dinner together tonight, and have champagne and chocolate. Should be fun!! "Talk" with you when we get back from Oregon.

Terri in MO 02-17-2003 08:55 AM

Good morning!

The start of a new week - time to make up for the weekend or just to get focused again.

Sorry for being absent over the weekend. Mom came up on Friday and I took her home on Saturday. I had to drive home in a bit of freezing rain. Yesterday, I met my friend at the movies after church. We saw "The Hours" and "Adaptation". We've been on a movie kick the last couple of weeks. Sometimes there is nothing to see and sometimes there's too many.

I've been building time on the cardio exercises. I noticed yesterday when I did the airdyne that I could do the whole time with my arms without having to rest them. That's payoff of doing all the handweight work I've been doing. Normally I have no upper body stamina.

I'm off today. DH is off so I took a day to have together. I think we're going to run a few errands and go see Lord of the Rings II. Then its off to dinner at his mom's. I've already asked him to help me not eat a ton of food.

J-Ann: Spring has to be coming soon for you all up north. Or at least a break from all the nasty snow. Hang in there! Are you doing okay otherwise? Let's get motivated together.

Cynthia - First, Congrats on your milestone. You're doing great. I was thrilled to see that you'd made it to your 10% goal. Here's a little happy dance for you! :cb:  :dancer:

I'm off to do something physical - treadmill or airdyne.

Have a great Monday!

Chatty 02-17-2003 02:05 PM

Good Afternoon Ladies,

Sorry to be missing in action, but somehow times just seems to fly by and then I am still struggling with ISP problems...I post a reply and then get kicked off before it goes through! GRRRR! Drives me absolutely bonkers!:dizzy:
Having been doing pretty good the last two weeks after rejoining WW. A total of #9 for the two weeks...not too shabby I think! Now I just have to keep myself on track for a few more weeks till the nice weather breaks and I can get outside to be more active. I hope to start walking again as I know that I need to start moving to help with the weight loss.

Determined..I hope you enjoyed the Lord of the Rings II. I saw the first one, but have not made it out for the second. At this point will wait for it to come out on video. Did go see Chicago and found it quite enjoyable.

Chillin'...you are doing awesome! Snowboarding...I am impressed! You seem to do alot of traveling also...is it job related or are you independently wealthy?

J-ann...I don't envy your snow amounts! We were suppose to get hit this past weekend by the storm hitting the east today, but it took an unexpected turn and missed us. I am sick of snow and cold....spring can not get here too soon for me!

Hope everyone has a great week. My goal is to journal everything that goes into my mouth!

Chatty

Chillin 02-18-2003 12:17 AM

Terri, sounds like you are having fun at the movies. DH and I pay a lot for premium satellite so we wait until the movies come to HBO, Stars, or whatever. We do go if a big screen is necessary, like Lord of the Rings or good special effects movies. But we may go about once every three months.

Chatty, not independently wealthy, but DH has a flexible schedule and likes to check for efares. We also have over 1,000,000 miles to use between the two of us and we are going to start using those this year before United goes completely out of business.

The trip to Oregon was $140 roundtrip for each of us. We are scouting possible retirement locations for future reference. Plus we like going overseas. In March we are headed for Singapore which was about $325 roundtrip each. Traveling is our main indulgence, I've had the same furniture for like, forever!! DH's next venture it to purchase an airstream and have us become nomads during the summer. Not sure if it will workout with telecommuting or not, plus I'm worried about what the heck to do with the house during that time. But we shall see, it could be fun seeing the country and the golf courses.

Medford and Bend Oregon were pretty cool, and rainy! But man is the water good there. We also checked out Eugene briefly, and I think I prefer Sisters. Kinda like Colorado and it has a great golf course. Stayed OP the whole time though we spent so much time in the car driving I didn't get much exercise in. DH lost a few pounds on the trip and he's lost a total of 12 lbs since the middle of January. He can tell a difference in my attitude and he's trying to get in shape as well so I don't leave him in the dust. :dizzy:

Chatty 02-19-2003 09:55 PM

Wow...Pretty quiet in here....where is everybody? Snow buried everyone? We missed it all...those poor people on the east coast! Think of the exercise you could get shoveling all that snow!
Have been OP strictly for the last several days, I am happy to report. Journaling everything that enters my mouth. Hopefully I can do well this weekend. Weekend always seem to be the hardest for me.
Well better scoot. I have a 6:00 am shift tomorrow and my bed is calling me!

Terri in MO 02-20-2003 08:15 AM

Good morning ladies,

Not much time to post. I opted to get caught up on the ironing that has been staring at me for quiet some time. Finally got it finished this morning.

Yesterday was Dad's birthday so it was a sad day for our family. Mom is doing well. Except that she "heard" him call her name yesterday morning while she was asleep. That jolted her but otherwise she is doing okay. It was good to go to church class last night because that is always so uplifting and healing.

I've been doing okay with food. I'm going to WW for WI tonight even though is TOM and a bad week to WI. But I've got to go just to keep myself in the mode.

I need to scoot. I hope to get more time to reply tonight.

Everyone - have a great, motivated OP day = journal, drink your water, journal, exercise, feel good about yourself, journal...... :D

Chillin 02-20-2003 04:46 PM

Chatty - I've been busy researching Victoria B.C. DH is thinking of renting a place there for us for the summer so I need to check out the rental situation. We get bored of Denver and are trying different areas to see where we should have a summer home. Congrats on the OPness and get thee busy on the weekends so it's not such a problem, :D .

Terri - anniversaries and holidays are always hard. It must have been a bit scary for your mother, hearing his voice.

Good for you tackling the ironing. I HATE doing that, though it's not so bad in the winter when you don't mind being near a hot iron, . And good for you for going to your meeting. I have promised myself not to miss one if I can help it, and certainly not when I expect a gain. That's gotten me into trouble before and led to another failed attempt.

I had a good day today - WI showed another 2.8 lbs gone for a total of 28.6 lbs. The problem with today is I'm wanting to eat. I've been increasing the intensity of my exercising to get ready for some of the 5 - 10k races in our area. Normally it wouldn't bother me, I'd just dip into my APs and be satisfied, but tonight we are going out to dinner with some friends and I need as many points as possible for that!! So I may be downing lots of hot tea today  .

Take care all, can't wait to hear from the rest of you.

j-ann 02-20-2003 06:18 PM

Hi

I haven't stopped in for a few days. It's been crazy at work. On Tues. night saw a touring company perform The Music Man. It's been years since I've seen it. It was FANTASTIC!!!! Makes you long for more of the "old" musicals. Of course, since we bring an elderly, couple with us to the theater that means I didn't get home 'til after midnight. Me, who trys to be asleep by 10, even on weekends. It's going to take me days to recover. :)

I've been pretty much OP. Think I've lost a few pounds. Bra's are fitting better again.

Snow is melting ... well a little bit. It got to 40º today and were supposed to see 45º tomorrow. Good thing the nights are still cold or we'd be floating away.

A vacation in Victoria sound grand. I wanna go.

Anybody heard from Jen? I sent her a PM last week but no response.

Terri in MO 02-20-2003 07:52 PM

Hi again,

I sat down thinking I'd make a long post. Looking at the clock, I only have a few minutes before Survivor starts.

I did go to WW tonight for WI and it wasn't pretty. But its TOM and the leader said get over it!! I even stayed for the meeting. The message was "I think I can" thinking.

Cynthia - Your travels sounds so much fun. I'm looking forward to being able to take some vacation time myself. Congrats on your loss. You're kickin' butt and taking names.

J-Ann - I've been thinking of you - wondering if you were snowbound again. Good for you for having OP days and feeling the difference - do you still make it to meetings? I haven't heard from Jen in quite some time either - sure do miss our old friend.

Chatty - Good to see you again. Looks like you're doing well too.

I better get moving. Have a great evening!

Terri in MO 02-21-2003 07:40 AM

Good morning!

Just wanted to drop in this morning and wish everyone a good OP day! Its the start of the weekend which means challenges for many of us. I'm making a vow to myself that I will make the effort to do what I know how to do - take control of my food. My sister, mom and step-niece are coming up tomorrow to spend the weekend. It will be a landmine because my sis is into comfort foods right now. So I've been strategizing with the DH about how I can not blow my plans completely. But I'm up for the challenge. :strong:

I forgot to report that I was able to do 20 mins on the airdyne last night. My leg is doing great so I'll be bike riding outside come spring. I can hardly wait! Now, to just keep at it on a regular basis. :drill:

Nothing else new or exciting. Seems like the weeks just fly by with little accomplished. Must be getting old.

Have a great day!

keelabean 02-23-2003 06:27 PM

Hello! I am new, I posted under the WW General board. I have about 120 to lose. I am hovering around 270, but I was at 300 this time last year. I did Sugarbusters for a few months and lost 35 lbs, but gained back 5. I decided that I wouldn't learn anything from Sugarbusters because I HAD to have my POTATOES and pasta! Anyway, I am going to give WW a try. I am excited but yet I have doubts. I am going to my first meeting tomorrow night at 7 and I am also a bit nervous!

j-ann 02-23-2003 07:10 PM

WELCOME AMBER ,

I think you'll like WW. It works for me as long as I stay OP (on program). Iv'e been struggling for quite a while but I know I can do this, and so can you.

TERRI: Wow your time on the airdyne is getting longer and longer. Good for you! Can't wait to hear about your bike rides.

Stayed home all weekend. Rained all day yesterday and turned the driveway into a bobsled run. Then the wind came up and the snow blew in. Back to shoveling and remembering that there's ICE!!!:o under the snow.

BTW for those rush meals Lean Cuisine has made bigger dinners! Mostly extra veggie servings. I had Sirloin (I think) tips w/ roasted red potatoes in Dijon sauce with lots of green beans. Only 6 pts. and very filling. You might want to look into these.

Back to work tomorrow. Shifted my hours back to 7A -3P now that it's light earlier in the morning. I hate to drive to work in the dark so I shift my hrs. so I arrive later in the depths of winter.

Have a great OP Monday. I'll try to get here tomorrow night.

Chillin 02-24-2003 11:45 AM

Having a little trouble typing these days, cut my pinkie on a broken dish. Amazing how much you use that finger to type!!!! Plus DH has been on my computer trying to get his DVD system going, now that the big screen has been put back up (we use a projector, very small and easy to carry, to get a big picture for telly watching).

It's darn cold here today so I'll be going to the gym and using the treadmill. Looks like I may have to do that all week. I'm none to graceful walking or running on snow, and I think my park path is going to be snowpacked for the rest of the week. Oh well.

Have a great week, all, and welcome Amber.

Terri in MO 02-24-2003 09:28 PM

I'm Here! I'm Here!

Hi ladies!

Sorry for being absent but the weekend got away from me with no time spent downstairs at the computer.

I had a good weekend with my sister, mom and niece. My food wasn't completely within range but was much more controlled than ever before so I feel successful. I even went to a church social bowling event and bowled. My niece went with us and we had a blast. I haven't bowled in about six years. I used to bowl on a league but grew weary of the fact that most people were there to smoke and drink and be somewhere else besides with the team bowling. However, I do miss the activity - not the people. My inner thighs are still a little tender. :o We watched chick flicks while DH was in the bedroom watching he-man Cops and America's Most Wanted!

We got a little more snow yesterday. This morning I got ambitious and shoveled the driveway before work. Nothing compared to what J-Ann has been shoveling but just about broke a sweat. Dang but its cold outside though.

Cynthia - Ouch! Take care of that pinkie - fingers can be tricky about healing. Good for you to heading to the gym and not allowing the weather to be an excuse to not exercise. Change in routine will be good for your body too.

Amber - Welcome to the group. Amen for potatoes!! Starchy carbs are a weakness for me. I'm also doing WW but I'm really trying to limit how many points go to starchy carbs. Good luck with the program. We're here to help.

J-Ann - You need a box of Floriday weather. Sorry to hear about the ice and snow. The only good thing for all that snow is the killer back muscle you must be developing with all that shoveling. This journey is a lifelong path and you've done so well and have been such a good motivator and friend. Its hard to see friends struggle because we all know how it makes us to feel when we struggle. Maybe it would help to drag out your week one books and reread for motivation. Or maybe to jot down all that is going on when you make food choices to help you find out the root cause of your struggles. Hang in there and know that we're here to help. :grouphug: :goodvibes:

Take care and have a good OP Tuesday!

Terri in MO 02-25-2003 06:40 PM

Hi ladies,

Me again!

Just a quick post to say that I did the one mile WATP tape tonight. What a great all-over workout! I bought it last year about the time I had to quit exercising and never really got to enjoy it then.

I'm off to discipleship class so have a great evening everyone!

:strong: :smoking:

Chillin 02-26-2003 08:01 PM

All right Terri - good for you on dusting off that old tape. At least you will get your money's worth now.:)

Here's an interesting link to check out ,WW for men - M3. Interesting that these folks have a way to download point values and menus for their PDAs, huh? :censored: I wonder if WW is going to go to that 3 level thing with us next year, sounds like a pretty good idea. If you don't want to go to the website - the levels are:

1. Lots of exercise and some food.
2. More food, moderate exercise.
3. Lots of food, some exercise.

They let the guys pick how fast they want to lose. Sounds like they have great ideas for non-equipment-at-home exercise. It's an at-home program and costs $125, but being offered in very limited areas.

Okay, enough about that. My finger is much better now and I can type normally - YAY! Not really much going on, just chugging away at the exercise and staying within my points. OH! Got into a size 18 (don't see a W on the label) pair of jeans that I haven't fit into for a year, which is good since I was able to take the pair I was wearing off without having to unbutton or unzip (okay, so I really had to push them down, but it worked). Sunday I take my monthly measurements and can't wait to see them.

Hope you guys survived hump day and are on to the rest of the week. :grouphug: right back to you guys.

Chillin 02-27-2003 04:23 PM

WOOHOO

Had a great WI today - down 7.2 lbs!! Got my 30 and 35-lb star. I think the work I'm doing with the weights has finally kicked in, as well as the increase in intensity of my daily walk (adding some spurts of jogging to it the last two weeks). Only bummer is now I'm losing two points right before going on a trip, but that's okay, :)

keelabean 02-27-2003 04:33 PM

That is GREAT! :DI hope my weigh in goes good. I have yet to start exercising, but I am hoping to get in the groove next week when I don't have to work or go to class. It is spring break. I am hoping to go out there four days next week, but I am only doing cardiovascular stuff right now. I think after my first four weeks on WW, I will start doing weights. I weigh in again on Monday at 7pm.

Chillin 02-28-2003 12:20 AM

Amber, I did wait until the beginning of my second month on WW to add in the weights. I didn't want too much too soon, just get some habits down, then start some new ones. That way I knew I would be able to fit it in my schedule. I think the weights are very important though, since muscle continues to burn calories while at rest, whereas fat does not. So the more muscle mass...

I finally found those Baker Breakfast cookies at a tea shop. They were $1.50 each and I thought that was outrageous until I went to their website and found out it would cost more than that to order a dozen :sp: ! If anyone knows a cheaper source, let me know. I think these would be great for trips.

Terri in MO 02-28-2003 07:54 AM

Hello ladies,

Darn! I did a small post last night and then had to dash off because I thought I heard a dog fight upstairs. I see this morning that its not there - I must have not hit the submit button.

We had someone come look at our bulldog last night. Its been agonizing but we decided to contact a rescue lady to see if she could find a good home for our Sadie. She and Bear just play too hard and when its inside, its just too much (190 pounds of dog wrestling!). We also knew that we had to find a way to slow Bear down in order to protect his back legs. He had two knee surgeries last year because of playing too hard in the back yard. Sadie loved this couple. She was all over them and wouldn't have anything to do with us. The couple loved her too so they will come get her Monday night. They don't live very far away and in fact, live down the hill from my brother. But still...she's one of my babies.

On the food front, I've been journaling and planning my foods. This is a woohoo moment...I've done at least 20 minutes of cardio exercise for four nights in a row. I've done the WATP, airdyne twice and time on the treadmill. Mixin' it up to keep the body and mind from being bored. I have to admit, I have trouble staying on a machine because my mind gets bored. I either have music on or the TV but still I struggle with the mental endurance.

Cynthia - I tried to check out that website and when I put in a zip code, it tells me the program isn't available in my area. What did you use? You are smokin' :smoking: Congrats on several fronts - 7.2 pounds, size 18 jeans AND occassional jogging!
:jig: :dancer: :high: :cb:
Are you working with free weights or machines? How long are you walking or doing other cardio? I'm thinking I need to build up to at least 45 minutes a day of doing cardio plus doing the muscle-building type of exercises.

Amber - I agree with Cynthia. Start slow with building habits and setting routines. You want to establish a routine that your life will fit around so that you can do it every day or consistently every week. That is hard sometimes. I struggle with that too.

J-Ann - How are you? Another busy week at work? Hope you're hanging in there.

I better get ready for work. At least its jeans day and I can be comfortable. DH has a trip tonight so it will be me and the dogs. My goal is to do the WATP tape when I get home and then mess around down here with paperwork and laundry. My planned meal is chicken fajitas (skinny ones).

Have a great OP day!

LindaBC 02-28-2003 03:20 PM

Guess who's back???

Hi, Determined and j-ann. I remember you both from last year when I was on WW. Nice to see at least a couple from the old gang and a few newbies since I was here.
Well, I'm still fighting my age old battle against obesity. I just haven't been very successful lately. In my year on WW I lost nearly 30 lb which I didn't think was quickly enough. Last June I quit WW and tried a plan called The Fat Flush Plan ....sheer torture and deprivation and I only lost about 5 lb in three months which I quickly regained in one weekend.
Then came a three month binge over Thanksgiving and Christmas and managed to gain back another 10 lb. So here I am now 15 lb heavier than I was last June and starting the WW plan again. Oh, I have to tell ya. My doctor put me on Xenical (the fat blocking drug) last month. Well, I stuck to their program (which doesn't have nearly enough protein for a diabetic) and suffered the worst, stinkiest gas attacks of my life. I was afraid to leave my house because I never knew if it was going to be a little putt-putt or the real thing. Anyhow, after three weeks I had zero weight loss so I figured "Why the heck am I putting myself through this misery?" During January I'd gone back onto the Atkins plan but wasn't having any luck with that either, even though I feel really good on it.
So, back to square one of WW and hopefully some weight loss. I know I have to exercise more too but right now it's all I can manage to get to the pool three times a week for deep water jogging. Even that gets my joints aching.
Anyhow, I just wanted to check in and say hi. I have at LEAST 100 lb to lose and, since I just turned 60, it's even more crucial than ever that I get this weight off.

Well, I won't be able to go to my next weigh in on Monday. I watched my husbands grandmother die tonight in the hospital. :(Her funeral is probably going to be on Monday and it is out of town, where she is from. Our town only has meetings on Mondays....

I blew my points today. I didn't have time to eat because I was running around today and then I took my mother in law out so we could go shopping for something to bury Granny in. This was before she died, but we knew she was going to die. Anyway, I didn't eat for the first time until about 8pm and I had popcorn, a giant roast beef and a baked potato with sour cream as well as a couple of miniature reece's cups. Oh, I did have cheerios this morning. It was just a busy, stressful day. Oh well, just pick back up and start over tomorrow right? This is my first week on WW and I had planned on staying OP, but I blew it.:( :(
