Week 5 Challenge

I know the week is almost over, but I didn't want our challenge to fizzle. I hope you don't mind if I start this up again.

Here's a question... do you still go to meetings? When you go to meetings, do you feel like others act as if you don't belong there anymore? Sometimes I get that feeling. Or do you weigh in, just sit down and fit right in?

Thanks, Dena

Dena: Thanks for taking the initiative and for another great topic. Meetings..hmmm. Been thinking a lot about meetings lately. I missed my January weigh-in completely so will be paying on Friday, regardless of where my weight sits.

Don't know why I don't attend more of them. Even when I go for official weigh-in, I rarely stay. I think part of the problem is my perception that those who have not reached goal weight get more attention, support, etc. than those who have. I also find there's an inordinate amount of attention paid to food and little to other weight management tools like exercise. My current leader makes no bones about the fact that she hates exercise and would do anything to avoid it.

I guess I really should look for another leader whose goals and interests are closer to my own.

Dena: Thanks for keeping us going!

Yes, I still attend weekly meetings. There are about 8 of us at Lifetime that call ourselves "The Lunch Bunch" and we've been together for 3 years now. There are new members who sometimes remark about how "we" don't need to be there. We have a great leader who acknowledges the LT members who attend weekly and last week we had a great compliment from some members who are getting close to their goal. They said they "wanted to be one of us and that we give them incentive and ideas"...we never thought we contributed that much to the meeting but apparently we do.

I've actually toyed with the notion of not going to my meeting today at noon...I weighed myself this morning at home and according to that scale I'm up 3#!!! I'm hoping that the scale is off and that it isn't that bad. My hands are swollen this morning (rings are tight) so I know I'm retaining fluids which tells me I'm not drinking enough water. You would think though with taking a diuretic that I wouldn't retain fluids. A question to ask the doc tomorrow when I go for my follow up.

I'll post again after my meeting.

Update: Officially at my WI I'm up 2.4# (141.4)...I will be down next week. I know that I'm following the program, although I could do better in the water department so that's going to be my focus for the next week. I'm taking the hit and moving on. Here are my numbers:

Wed: 20
Thur: 24
Fri: 22
Sat: 19 + walked
Sun: 19 + walked
Mon: 21 + 30 min walking
Tue: 22.5 + 20 min walking

I'm not a lifetime, but I can tell you that everyone respects the
presence of lifetime members at the meeting that I attend on Saturdays. They are a bit cliquish, but they do provide tons of good advice.

I like them there and wish that more lifetime members would stay for meetings.

Dena- good topic!
I had been attending meetings, but the last two weeks have skipped out. DD has been a bit of a mommy-suck, and I have been in a hurry to weigh in and get home. Also, we change leaders quite often in our city. I find that some of the leaders are uninspiring and don't have the skills necessary to motivate and educate the group. I am considering becoming a leader when I get back to goal. I would like to use my education and keep myself motivated, and think that might be a good way to do it!
The other reason I am not always inspired to stay for the meetings is that there are never any new topics. I rarely learn anything new, and it seems to be the same old same old over and over again. I get more inspiration and support from my buddies here!
WRT this 12 Week Challenge...I can't even remember my initial goal. I think I will go find it and bring it up, in case anyone else needs a reminder!
We are almost half way through- how is everyone else doing?

I no longer attend meetings. I found myself fidgeting when I'd go, because I wasn't learning anything.

Now, I go to a WW weigh in center that has no meetings. But everytime I go, I always chat with the weigh in person.

I also find there's too much focus on food. At this point in my life, I want to focus away from food, and focus on exercise.

I did really good on exercise this week. I'll post my numbers when I get home tonight.

Just came back from weighing in and I'm up .5 lbs. Normal fluctuation. Not worried about it.

OK - Dena major thanks for keeping this going...

I've been so swamped with work... that I let everything else go.

Not good. And speaking to the topic... I used to go to meetings weekly - but the leader changed - and I found the "new" one uninspiring.

Hence no outward inspiration.

I'm back gals... thanks for posting.

Hi everyone! Patch, great to see you're back!

I wanted to share my exercise numbers for the week:

Wed: 20 min walk + 40 min exercises with new exercise ball
Thur: 10 min walk
Fri: 10 min walk
Sat: 40 min walk + 40 min weight lifting, upper body
Sun: 50 min walk + 40 min weight lifting, lower body
Mon: 20 min walk + 45 mins volleyball
Tues: 15 min walk + 40 min weight lifting, upper body
Wed: 10 min walk

This is the most I've done in a week for as long as I can remember! Actually, I was really physically active when I first hit goal, 1 1/2 years ago, but that didn't last long. I'm hoping this time that I'll keep up with it!

Thanks everyone for the added motivation. You got me kick started and even if the challenge fades out, I got the kick in the butt that I needed and I'll always remember that.

I'm curious to see what the long term effects are going to be on my weight. I might post % bodyfat so I can get a more accurate measurement of my progress.
