Activity Points

I know I have read this somewhere but the searches aren't pulling anything related up.

How many activity points are you allowed to earn in one day? I am just wondering because we were camping this past week/weekend and we went hiking on Friday. We did 3.6 miles round trip on the Appalachian Trail and it was TOUGH! When I plugged it into my activity points calc on my phone I got 14 activity points earned. For some reason I thought I could only earn up to 9 a day?

I've worn my WW pedometer and earned up to 12 points in a given day... If there was a limit, I'd think the pedometer wouldn't let you earn that many...

I have a Polar FT7 heart rate monitor which tracks the calories I burn and what I've done is add 1 AP for every 100 calories burned. It's worked well for me and I've lost even more weight when counting that way!

I tried some searching, but I have yet to come across any maximum number you can earn per day. Seems like "as many as you want" is the maximum.

My exercise (WATP - 3 miles) gives me 3 points. If I choose to use them, how do I calculate it? On the same day as the activity I can eat 32 points instead of 29 without dipping into weeklies?

Are you using the trackers from meetings? At the bottom there is a spot to check off how many you've earned and how many you've used. You can save them, use them that day or use them throughout that week. (But once that week is over you lose them). So if you earn 3 points that day, you can use 32 points that day and not use weeklies! Or, you can save them and use them later in the week. I will often save up my AP for the end of the week for when we're eating out or a special treat (like skinny cow, etc.).

I'm using a personal notebook for tracking, since I'm not going to meetings anymore. When I was attending, exercise was not in the picture for me so I never questioned using activity points. But I'm glad to hear they can be accumulated throughout the week. Thanks for the info.

In the "Getting Started" booklet I got at my first WW meeting, it says that if you're earning more than 42 activity points a week, you should consult a health expert, just in case. Now, I've been taking that to mean that if you're relatively new to exercise, then obviously you should be checking with a healthcare provider before you jump right into things anyway.

For myself...well, I always walked quite a bit, and from what I've observed, the normal amount of walking I've always done would have earned me 49 activity points a week anyway. So I don't put a maximum on myself.

Short answer: 42 is the maximum per week that WW recommends, but that depends on the level of activity a person was doing in the beginning. Judge yourself accordingly -- only you know how much you can handle.

Perfect! THAT is where I was getting a max number from. The leader I used to have must have interpreted it as max of 6 points a day because that's how she explained it and that's what stuck with me. I will contact WW or ask my "new" leader just to double check. (I switched from one day to another because the other leader just wasn't helping me).

WW recommends not eating more than 6 APs a day but you can earn as many as you like. You are supposed to be earning at least 28 per week by the time you begin maintenance.
