Activity Points

Hi Everyone!

I know I've asked this question before but do any of you count 1 AP for every 100 calories burned?

I've been working out a LOT lately and burning anywhere from 1000 to 2000 calories per session at the gym. I weigh myself daily and my home scale is bouncing back and forth between 165/166. Usually I'll only eat 4 AP's max but I think I need to start eating more because my body is being stubborn at the moment.

I looked up my w/o yesterday to see how it works for me. I burned 900 cal running 11.5km. I earned 14 AP for that. I ate them all and used a bunch of weeklies yesterday. I was down .4 this morning.

i was thinking about it Kim, and i was going to say something on your facebook - but by much you're burning, i think you do need to be eating more or pull back the exercise a bit. Give it a week or two before you change it, and if it doesnt work, you can go back to how you were doing it.

as for counting AP, if i cant find the exercise i did, i just put it in the way they tell you to. Low moderate or vigorous and for how long

I definately think that's the issue, I need to be eating more. I just want to make sure I calculate my AP's correctly, I'd hate to have a gain because I ate too many of them! I'm still following Momentum so I calculate my AP's a bit different than for those on P+.

For some reason, specifically last Tuesday, I've been on this exercise kick! I think it's because I challenged myself to burn over 1200 calories and I actually exceeded that pretty much everyday. I love feeling fantastic after a great workout and I think that's why I'm so addicted right now. BUT too much exercise can be a bad thing if it's turns into something compulsive.

Congrats on .4!!!! That's awesome :D

I'm still following Momentum so my AP's are different. I heard before that we could count 1 AP for every 100 calories burned on Momentum. I also heard we could not exceed 4 AP's per day, not sure which is true.

before i joined WW i think i used to work out too often/much. To the point of exhaustion. weight train, cardio, then i'd take my daughter for a walk, and do another video of walking, and then still feel like i hadnt done enough during the day... and i never lost weight. I stayed at the same number - unbudging.
I'd finally decided to take a 3 day break (so tired), that on the last day i pulled a muscle in my neck/back and ended up taking 2 1/2 weeks off... i couldnt move my left arm, or neck and kept getting migraines...
After this happened, i decided to take a step back from doing so much, i was hurting myself more than doing good.

(just an example of compulsion)

The amount that you are excersising right now Kim, is that maintainable? as in... 6 months from now will you be doing the same amount of activity? I wonder about this for myself. I dont want to be excersising my butt off right now and then not go as much when i get closer to target and my body be used to what i have been doing and then gain weight back since i am not at the same activity levels. Does that make any sense? lol.

WI is in 30 min, dont mind me. Im going insane. will report my results when i get back :carrot:

Maybe I should take a step back, last month I didn't workout this much and I had actually skipped a week. I think I'm trying so hard to get to goal that I want to give it everything I have. The hours I'm putting in at the gym are wearing me out, I'm exhausted. I also think the main reason I've been exercising so much is to help the depression and anxiety I've been going through. After leaving the gym, I feel fantastic from the 'Runners High' I get!

I know once I get to maintenance I'll cut my workouts down to 3 days per week.

Today I burned a little over 1000 calories (10 AP's) and decided to grab a Southwest Chicken Salad from McDonald's which is 9 points (Momentum) and that also includes the dressing. I'm going to start eating my AP's and see what happens =D

Jinksie 03-18-2011 02:37 PM

i dont think you have to eat ALL of them, maybe some... thats a personal opinion i havent been on WW long enough to know what works or doesnt (and even then it may be different for you).

I really want to go back to the gym this evening.. I have this urge to run. Now I'm feeling discouraged again and I've pretty much eaten my DP's for the day and it's only 3pm. I have the 10 extra I earned and my weeklies but I'm feeling so hopeless at the moment!

Jinksie 03-18-2011 04:04 PM

lol its 4pm and i have 5 points left, and im going to cut into my weekly allowance. I dont feel bad about it. I ate 1/2 a publix sub this afternoon cos i was having severe low blood suagr (feeling depressed, bad mood) - i dont have diabetes O_O ... i dont feel bad about it. Even half-assed my exercise lol

if you want to run, then i say run :) just dont deprive your body of the fuel :)

Thankfully my scale is down today! I decided to eat more than I usually would and when I say more, I mean I consumed 42 points yesterday. When I went back and took a look at how many calories I had burned each day, I realized I had racked up well over 30 ap's and was barely eating anything! No wonder I wasn't losing!

seagirl 03-19-2011 08:25 AM

I think the "don't eat more than 4 APs per day" is for people who are rather sedentary. If you are burning 1200 per day, you'll need to up your cal intake.

Maybe add a yoga class, that helps me a lot with depression and anxiety.

I am burning between 1000 and 2000 calories a day at the gym! I thought if I worked out more and didn't touch my AP's the scale would move. I ate so much yesterday I seriously thought my scale would be up but that's just goes to show that eating AP's and weeklies can be a good thing.

I really want to try Yoga but was scared because the poses look difficult! I didn't want to be the newbie who had no clue what she was doing. I may give it a shot next week :D

I was wondering about the 100 calories burned = 1 pt question, too. I exercise on WII FIT daily, and the gym several times a week. I use machines that calculate my weight, heart rate, time, pace, and then calories burned. How do I count those in the WW program?

Jinksie 03-19-2011 09:59 AM

depends which WW program you're on. Some of us are on plus, so its calculated by how you feel during the exercise and the time... pretty much 20 mins of moderate = 2p... 30 mins of moderate = 3... you get the idea.
Kim is on momentum, so she counts differently

Everyone started as a newbie! Find a beginners class with a good teacher who will check your alignment and stuff, so you are doing the poses correctly and won't get hurt. They aren't going to have you standing on your head in the first class (and if they are, the teacher should just be showing you the prep poses for it.)

The nice thing about yoga is the more you do the stronger you get and then some day you can do all the cool poses. I'm still learning them!

You will probably find better teachers at a studio rather than a gym, but if you just want to try it out, a gym should be fine. Studio teachers tend to have way more training and can help you progress.
