WW & Nursing
Hi! I am a Lifetime Member of WW who has just recently returned to the program after the birth of my first child! The first time I did the program I consistantly lost between 1.5-3lbs every week. It seems a bit slower this time- but I also have less time for exercise.
I am just wondering if anyone has gone through the program while breast feeding and has any tips for me! Thanks! |
I did the WW nursing plan 2 years ago and although I was nursing, I didn't lose any faster. Remember that a huge chunk of your nutrients and energy are going towards producing milk. I didn't start WW until 2 months after the birth and still did not do exercise for another month or so. Exercise did really help me, but I still not have huge number losses every week. Remember everyone is different tho!
Hope that helps. |
Jen,
Congrats on having another baby! And thanks for sharing with me. How much did you have to lose after the first of your first baby? And how long did it take you? What kind of exercise did you do? Thanks! |
Question for all of you,
I started WW at the end of September, because my husband and I want to start a family, but my doctor wants me to lose weight and get my blood pressure down before I become pregnant. I have a question about WW and I am hopeing that one of you can help me. I have been doing very well on WW, but can I stay on WW while I am pregnant? I haven't gotten the O.K. yet from my doctor, but I have an appointment the day after Christmas and I am hopeing for good news. I have lost 27 pounds and my blood pressure has dropped, but I have to see what she says. Once I become pregnant, I don't want to gain all that weight back. I still have a lot of weigh to loose, so I am looking for some advice. Thanks! |
First, good luck on getting the OK from your doctor! My daughter is almost 3 months old, and she is the best thing that has ever happened to me! The day she was born was better than anything else I had experienced- my wedding day included:)
I know that you are not allowed to attend meetings and weigh in while on WW, BUT I would talk to your doctor about it. When you are pregnant you only need a few hundred calories more each day, and I would think that this would be about the same as the WW program I am following now that I am nursing. (It gives you 10 extra pts per day.) This is for weight loss though, and your doctor probably won't want you losing weight during pregnancy. I would not advise just eating whatever you want, though. I just ate whatever I wanted during my pregnancy, and with that and my high blood pressure I ended up gaining about 45 lbs. Lots of it came off in the 2 weeks after she was born, but then it started to come back again since I had rebuilt my bad eating habits!!! Anyway, I would say discuss it with your doctor and hopefully you can come up with a plan! Good luck, I hope you get good news! Tara |
Thanks for the advice. My doctor told me that same thing, that I only need about 200 more a day while I am pregnant, and that should be protein. She also said that the calories I do eat, need to be nutritional, and not just "empty" calories, or all from sugar, etc. She thought I could stay on WW, but just wouldn't weigh in. I just don't want to have to start over and pay registration fees, etc. It would suck to come this far, and then gain it all back.

i don't think you will have to pay to join again, i didn't. are you at or near goal weight? as a lifetime member, i was also given 3 months after the baby's birth to attend meetings & weigh in free even though i am not at goal. talk to your leader about it! i be interested to find out for my next pregnancy!
good luck! |
I know you can't attend meetings while PG. But if your area is like mine, they run specials every so often with free registration. Also, there is WW on-line or e-tools that you can sign up for and use while PG (don't tell WW) and never have to go to a meeting.
I eat whatever I want. I have low BP so never worried about that, but I am 40 pounds overweight. My doctor says 30 pounds is normal and never has said a thing about my weight. As for losing after having a baby. After my first I lost 35 pounds which was what I gained while PG... so that still left me over weight. However, I lose slowly and am happy that I at least lost the PG weight. |
Thanks for the great advice. I will talk to my leader this week about what I should do. Maybe I will try the on-line thing for awhile. I am just so afraid to go back to hold habbits. But again, I still have to get pregnant yet.
Thanks again! |
