Too many fruits and veg?
Has anyone had problems with the "free" fruits and vegetables? On a daily basis, I only eat 2/3 to 3/4 of my allowed points, but have probably 400-500 calories of zero-point fruits and vegetables throughout the day.
I'm new to WW so I haven't had a chance to see how this affects me on the scale, but it's similar to how I've been eating for months, with a few tweaks. |
(because I'm neurotic) I kept track of my points and my calories. I reached lifetime before PointsPlus, but I'll bet if you tracked it, your calories are pretty much on track. I'd say, if you're still losing, you're probably good.
I think it would be hard to have 'too much' fruits and veggies. Good luck! |
Well, first of all fruits and veggies are not "free", they are "zero points" and yes there is a difference! And even though they are, you still have to eat them in moderation. Sure you have to get your daily servings in, but beyond that it's common sense. I mean, would you eat 10 apples in a day? Hopefully not. The point of zero points is to give you the option of a smart, fulfilling, nutritious snack.

Cherbear - thanks! My calories have been between 1150-1450 with the same meal plan, so I think you're right. I just get nervous with change (and with fruit, from a lower-carb background).
candyjunkie - oh, I know it's not "free" - that was a mis-type. During quite some time calorie-counting, I learned the hard way that fruit and vegetables add up (and quickly, at that!). I wouldn't eat 10 apples in a day, but today I had half a grapefruit, 2.5 tomatoes, 1/4 cantaloupe, 4oz carrots, 2 cups lettuce, 1/4 cucumber, 200g brussels sprouts and an apple! That's 476 calories, according to livestrong! What I keep thinking is that, if I eat this many zero-point foods in a day, can I afford to eat all 29 points of other foods? (for me, only meats, dairy and nuts). |
I eat 4-5 servings of fruit and 1-2 vegetables per day. They haven't caused me any problems so far. So are you only eating 2/3-3/4 of your points because you are concerned about the fruit and veg or because you are just not hungry.?My leader said that there isn't the same push to get in all your daily pointsplus like there was on the old plan. I've you are not hungry, no problem eating under your points. But you shouldn't feel like you need to deduct from your points to accomodate the fruit/veg. They took the calories in fruit and veg that one would reasonably eat into consideration when they designed the new points. (I heard somewhere that they accounted for 500 cal in fruit/veg, but I don't know how accurate that number is)

I'm not a calorie counter and new to PP so I don't have the luxury or worrying about calories, one reason I chose to go via weight watchers.
I would like to better understand though. If I eat spinach and green beens, on my plate, that's considered 2 serving of my veggies right? then If I have two fruits, I'm done for the day right? oh a veggie in the AM also, or a fruit. |
