What's my topic? Is this a good choice?

  • I am doing WW so I go to my meeting today. find out I'm up 2 pounds... should I be dancing?.... lol

I brought my dinner with me, that I ate at home to see if I'm eating something incorrect.

so you tell me if this is okay or not.

I had a Stouffers Mac and Cheese and Broccoli... I'm thinking okay 400 calories.

But I go and put the points in the calaculator and it comes out to 12 P+..

I go eeek... What the heck?

was this not a good choice? I was thinking it had the brocoli and I love Mac and Cheese...

they say it doesn't matter so this is still good right?

it was: Fat 21, Carbs 44, protein 18 and fiber 4

let me know if I came out with the right number. then tell me your thoughts on the choice.
  • 12 is correct.

Anything like that, preprocessed, over processed, etc. is usually bad.

The broccoli is a good choice, whole wheat pasta a better choice, but it's that darn processed cheese sauce, it's Satan in a box.

Basically, it was a bad choice, track it and move on. That's what I did with that 6 pack I drank the other night. Bad choice, I tracked it, and let it go. I will make a better choice next time.
  • There are some good, easy recipes in the etools tracker. I made the chicken broccoli w/garlic sauce and the shrimp scampi, for both I doubled the spices and added hot pepper flakes (spicy is good).

If time is short for you, there are some better choices for frozen meals, I love all the Amy's foods products. 1/4 of their frozen pizzas are approx 9 pts, and the enchilada black bean whole meal is 8pts. Add some salsa to it for 0 pts.
  • Yep, 12 points. Most of the convenience foods are going to end up higher in points. If it's a time issue for you then I'd suggest spending some time comparing your options with your calculator. There are some decent options out there for frozen meals.

If you'd like to try your hand at making a plan friendly version of mac and cheese, try this recipe. It's quite good!

  • hi Peanut.
Can't get that link to work even with the period between the 3 www.

Okay. Not a good choice. Thanks. But it's not over my points. it's still not cool?

Yes, time was not on my side today and when I went shopping I did buy some cheese, no not fat free. They said we don't have to eat FF everything.

I did buy low fat Ricotta for the veggie lasagna recipe.

so If I make a dish will be be better for me health wise if it ended up being 12 P+
  • got it now peanut, there were 2 missing periods.
  • lol.I eat my whole eggs also. I try to buy egg whites and when I do buy them, then I don't eat them and they spoil.

so I figure I'll just crack the egg and ditch the yolk if I want to get more egg.

they are cheaper then buying egg beaters or egg white or what else name they go by.

forgot, yes I had the points to play with and I'm still within range for the day.
  • If you had the points it's ok. I had the points for the beer too, but, it makes me so hungry the next day, drinking it is not a good choice.

I know sometimes we get stuck in a situation where it's tough to do anything else. I will be out of town for the next few days, staying in a motel, while my DH has heart surgery. I have some apples and string cheese to pack along, and their is a Super Wal-Mart close by, but I'm still going to end up eating out some, and that's never an easy task.
  • Personally I don't see anything wrong with 12 P+ though you could do better w/a home made meal for the same value. But I get it if you are on the go and need something in a pinch.
  • I sometimes have stuff like that in the Freezer. Some days, I don't want to cook. Like today. I didn't cook the Turkey breast until 11:15 pm.

I can't see how 400 calorie meal though can be so high.. where did it come from?

This is why people can still be out of shape when they live on frozen dinners..
  • When I'm craving mac n' cheese I usually grab a couple of the Smartones or Lean Cuisines or make my own with whole wheat pasta and reduced fat cheese =D
  • It's high from the white pasta, all carbs, not that much fiber.

Check the points before you eat, not after, that way you'll know if it's worth it.

Also, are you tracking your points every day? Or only sometimes?
  • Yes I track every day.

I do buy the Barilla whole grain pastas at home. Forgot about that.

Cabinet full of Barilla. Even the elbows.
