Hey, anyone still planning to walk a 5K this Sunday?
I walked in a 5K last Saturday. My daycare provider organized it in memory of a daughter who died. It was my first ever! It was a real race, and I felt like I was back in junior high before it started since all these racers got together in groups and were chatting with each other. I guess they all knew each other from other races and stuff. And then it turns out that the walkers were intended to walk the 2 mile and the 5K was intended for runners! Oh well. So I finished 3rd...from the end! I'm sure if I just walked the 2 mile I would have been at least right in the middle. It was a good experience and it was for a good cause, so I don't regret feeling like the odd girl out. Once I got walking it was me and my iPod and a nice, warm morning. Now that I have that under my belt I'm really looking forward to this Sunday. It's been organized by some local WW members, we're meeting at a track, should be a piece of cake compared to the hilly race I was in on Saturday! More of a sense of unity. Not that anyone was rude or anything on Saturday, people were friendly enough, I just didn't quite feel like I fit in. I don't think walking is going to be a long-term exercise solution for me. I enjoy it sometimes but it's not for me, especially as summer approaches and it's already 80 degrees and humid as heck at 8am. I did just join a gym last week and my summer schedule has lightened up at work so I'll have more time to devote to exercise this summer. I think the Walk-It Challenge has been great for me to try to get back into exercise consistently though, and that is cool. |
