Started WW Last Monday

  • Hi everyone,

    My name is Dan and I am new to the site. My wife and I started doing the WW Points plan on Monday, September 14. This is the first time that either of us has done it. I'm wondering if anyone had any food recommendation or suggestions? Any program tips?

  • Hi Dan and wife....Welcome to here. And of course welcome to WW. I started WW august 2008 and for me it works. Like everyone here I have had a few slip ups but then I get back on the wagon again. You asked for a few suggestions.....

    1. low fat protein and vegetables are a good combo
    2. I learned portion control and how to eat on weight watchers....I found food that I really enjoyed but with less fat or less calories, or just a healthier version of a particular food... Good luck...Please feel free to share things you learn and find amazing...

  • one of my favorite WW recipes (super easy) was a box of betty crocker's devil's food and one can of pumpkin. just mix them together and make 18 muffins (1 pt) or 12 muffins (2 pts)

    so easy and TASTES great. you can also switch around with the cake mixes. i've done carrot cake and spice cake.

    good luck with ww! it's so easy! you'll be down in no time!

    Dan- congratulations on starting WW. It's a great program and it works because you can stick to it long-term. My advice to you would be to measure everything, try new foods, and don't get discouraged if you have a bad week or hit a plateau- it happens to everyone! Some of my favourite ww staples are whole wheat pasta, ground turkey, oatmeal, and lots of veggies. My favourite sweet treat is skinny cow ice cream. I love the vanilla ice cream sandwiches- only 2 points!

    If you like to cook, I recommend picking up a WW cookbook. I have the 20 Minute Meals one, and I love it.

    The first week or so is always the most difficult, but soon it will all be like second nature. Like sleepandfood said, it's easy when you get the hang of it!

    Thanks for the tips Prima. The first week has not been too bad. I'm more concerned about eating when I travel for work (which is pretty frequently).
  • Hi Dan! I started last Monday as well! I'm a veteran WW, never making it goal however. This time I feel the commitment. I feel like I had a good week and made good food choices and re-acquainted myself with my treadmill.

    One thing that helps me stay satisfied is stretching out my meals..Example: If I plan for an egg, toast and fruit for breakfast I'll save the fruit to eat a little while later. Or have half my planned sandwich for lunch and the other half an hour or so later. Mostly it's a mind game but I does help keep me from snacking on otherwise crappy stuff.

  • Welcome to WW.... My biggest piece of advice overall is to stick to the plan and track your food. I know that seems pretty simple, but it really does work!
    Here are the typical foods I eat:
    Breakfast:
    Cereal- usually cheerios or Kashi. I find that if I eat sugary cereals I'm hungry about ten minutes after breakfast!
    Eggs
    Arnolds sandwich thins (toasted with peanut butter or topped with an egg and slice of cheese)
    Lunch-
    Sandwiches (on arnolds sandwich thin)
    Laughing cow cheese wedges (yum!)
    fruit
    carrots with hummus
    hard boiled eggs
    string cheese
    cottage cheese
    lean cuisines
    left overs from healthy dinners
    Dinner-
    Lean protein (chicken, pork, steak)
    Vegetable
    Turkey brats
    Veggie burgers (I use Arnolds sandwich thins as a bun)
    Soup
    Salads

    **** I ALWAYS get my five servings of fruit and veggies in, and I add more servings if I can. I think this is a real key to the diet because the fruits and veggies are low point and they really fill you up ****
  • hi dan! congrats on joining ww! its definitely a great programme!

    the biggest help i got was allocating a certain amount of points per meal. when i started i found i was hoarding points "in case" i got hungry later. of course i was getting hungry! i was eating nothing all day and left with 15 points at 7pm! so i now have 5 for breakfast, 7.5 for lunch, and 10 for dinner. the rest then is for snacks, milk in coffee etc.
    also the zero point soup recipes are just so convenient. i have some in my freezer always. only takes a few mins to defrost in the microwave and really fills you up. my fav is the butternut squash and red pepper one.

    i also agree with the poster who said get one of the cook books. i have 4 and they are a life saver. theres alwasy something to make from them and theres no guessing.

    Thanks for the tips Bonnie! We are going to get some of the cook books later this week. My wife spent some of the weekend looking up some WW recipe sites and blogs and found a bunch of good stuff.
