Can't do it alone

Hi - This is my first post and a week from today will be my first WW meeting. 5 years ago I had open heart surgery after which I lost 75 lbs. I only had 25lbs to go but just couldn't seem to do it. Since then I have gained back 10lbs more, so now I am 35lbs from my goal. I am really feeling discouraged and alone. None of my friends or family have weight issues so they don't understand. So I decided on Weight Watchers - please tell me I have made the right choice. Anything you can tell me about the program and what to expect will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome, Hunepot!

And congratulations on joining WW. Not only does the program teach you to eat right, it offers more support and encouragement than any other program I know of.

hunEpot, congratulations on losing 65 pounds! That's a real achievement. :)

I think you'll really like the WW program; it's easy to follow and it really works. It's not the fastest way to lose weight, but it's the only way I've found that is permanent, because it helps you change those habits that caused the gain. (I lost 100+ and have kept it off.)

The meetings offer a lot of support, too, if the leader is friendly and a good facilitator, as most are. You'll definitely find people who are on your wavelength, facing the same challenges. There's a different topic each week, like handling emotional eating, fitting exercise into the day, coping with holidays, etc. Most leaders also let members share tips & experiences that might help everyone else.

Let us know how it goes! And don't forget to visit these boards for support, too. There are lots of different groups on this site, so if you browse around you'll probably find one that you like. Most of them are very glad to welcome new members! (The group I post in, "50 or more", is going into its third year now; we've all become good friends, and helped each other so much.)

Wishing you the best,
Jan

Thank You both for the information. I read through alot of the postings today and was very impressed by all the support that is offered here. I know I do better when I have that kind of support and encouragement.

I am from up near Syracuse.
