WW Smart Ones meals

  • Does anyone else eat these on a regular basis? I work at an elementary school and I was eating
their cafeteria food since the begining of the school year but seriously, it's SOO bad!
So when I started WW the begining of this semester I didn't want to eat the school food
and I've been going to the grocery store on Mondays to buy 5 WW meals, one per day for the week.
If any of you eat them regularly do you think it's helpful and which meals are your favorite?

I like it because normally, if I didn't eat the cafeteria food and
brought my lunch from home it would probably be a turkey sandwich everyday.
I'm not too much of a cook so at least I get a lot of choices, like mexican food vs. italian vs chinese and so on.
I REALLY REALLY like their orange chicken, it's a delicious alternative to actual orange chicken from Panda.
I think enchilada suzia is good too and their cheesy ziti.
I'd definitely suggest the Smart Ones to people who are having a hard time finding or preparing a healthy lunch.
  • I've tried a couple of them and don't care for them. I do like some of the smaller ones from Lean Cuisine - like beef portabello with broccoli - I think that one was like 4 points, then I can add an apple or a salad and make it a 5-6 point meal. I eat a frozen meal lunch about once a week.

Do you ever have leftovers from the night before? I've been finding that works for me too, if I refrigerate it right away in a serving size that I know the points of - like we had a rice & bean casserole the other night and had 2 servings leftover, so I put one serving in a small container and had that for lunch the next day with a salad.
  • They are full of preservatives, sodium and fillers. They don't have a full serving of protein and veggies is questionable. They are not a good choice to eat on a regular basis. I'd rather eat a turkey sandwich every day. I make extra at dinner and take for lunch some days. You surely could buy a bag of salad greens and add some chicken or tuna or salmon and other veggies and take a salad.
  • I've never found the Smart Ones to be very tasty. Lean Cuisine has some good stuff (especially the spa cuisine). I've been shocked lately by how delicious the new Healthy Choice meals are. I've tried several of the HC Steamers and some of their new conventional microwaved meals. Pretty yummy and innovative flavors (not your usual tv dinner).
(and both Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice have the Points value on the package)

That said, while I can understand how it simplifies your life to just have one daily, QuilterinVA has a point about healthiness.
  • I eat them fairly regularly for lunch and very occasionally for dinner. I agree that they aren't the healthiest option, but they're also better than some other things like fast food.
  • I don't eat them often but my favorite frozen meals are the healthy choice steamer bowls Now when I first started out I depended a lot on the smart ones for quick meals....no they aren't the best choice as far as nutrition goes but it's way better than school lunch!
  • I like the sweedish meatballs from LC a steamer bag of broccolli (actually half) and a tasty and filling meal. I like lean pockets too. You can look around and find reviews of some of the different dinners.

I think anything that helps keep you on plan is awesome.
  • Thank you too all that have responded. I actually never even thought about the preservatives in the meals! Oops! It is definitely hard when you're just starting out and not wanting to stray. I guess I figured it seemd easy because the SO meals already have set serving size and point value figured. I probably am going to take the preservative thing into play though and start slowing myself down on how many times a week I do have the SO meals. Thanks again for all of your insight it's greatly appreciated!!!
