I am considering joining WW, but would like some advice. I am 45, 5'3, weight 240, and have high cholesterol and moderately high blood pressure. I live alone, but hate to cook, and have problems with portion sizes. I'd appeciate it if those who are familiar with the current WW plan can let me know (e-mail fine) about their experiences with the plan. Oh yes, I have to avoid wheat (At worst, I break out in hives, but my usual reaction is swollen eyes and general itching.)
Thanks for any insight that you can offer--

baosi: It good to have another new person here. I'll try to help, however someone with similar wheat problems may be able to give better input with that.

Do you have a friend that you could have over for a cooking party? I'm thinking that it would be fun, you could make big batches of different foods, put them in the right portions then freeze them. Doing it on the weekend would make your weekdays free for grabbing your dinner from the freezer without cooking every night.

Maybe a close-by high school, college, or hospital is offering healthy cooking classes. They would offer points and new recipes and maybe they could make it fun for you. Hey, maybe there's a cute chef! :D

For snacks, I sometimes buy a large package of whatever, then put each portion into a small "ziploc" bag. That way, it's already measured and I can grab it on my way out the door, when I first walk in, or when PMS strikes my willpower.

I love your quote. So far, I'm doing "BIG". It's the "right way" and "in style" that are a whole other issue. http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//lol.gif

Let me know how you're doing.

Baosi: Welcome aboard. This is a great site.

I love the WW program. It is so very easy to follow. I like to use the analogy that it's like having a dollar and going to the candy store. You have to decide whether you want to buy 50 jawbreakers, 100 pieces of gum, or 1 all-day sucker. That's kind of how the points system works. You are given a certain amount of points to 'spend' in a day. Then it's up to you to pick and choose what you want to eat. That means, if you want pizza, you can have it. If you want to eat out, you can. You just have to count points. Without getting into alot of detail, you can also have 'change' (points) leftover from your day to spend later in the week.

I don't like to cook either. But there are enough really simple recipes available for easy menu planning. I personally like to be able to open a couple of cans/packages, throw them in a pot and call it done.

As you move around this site you will find all kinds of useful information, recipes, motivation and above all: really great people.

Best of luck on your journey. And 2 thumbs up for Weight Watchers.
