I need some help finding balance

  • Hello all. I am pretty darn new here, but I have discovered a little about myself lately. I have lost 130 lbs and have run 11 marathons, but I am finding that my extreme tendencies are not sustainable. I need more balance. I have a marathon schedule for 2009, but i have pretty much thrown it away for balance. If I am going to keep the weight off I need sustainable, does this make sense to anyone. Any advice would probably help. I think I know what I am going to do, but it is hard to let go of the extreme side of myself.
  • Balance is so important and it's a process. It's good that you recognize the fact that you need something sustainable and at the same time not extreme. I know a colleague at the university that I work at who lost quite a bit of weight and was extreme with his activity/exercise. He was on an extreme workout regime and then crashed--it's so important to find what works best without having to go over the edge.

Your weight loss is fantastic and you must be proud of all you have accomplished. Good luck with getting the balance that you need.
  • Thanks for the support. I really love the quote you have at the bottom too. That is so very true
  • Great job of losing. You might want to have a look over at the Living Maintenance thread as well as this one. We have quite an active group, many of them WW as well.
  • Balance is certainly key. In regards to marathoning, I would think that whether or not it can be part of a balanced life depends on you and your lifestyle. I can't see being balance if done only for weight management. But it's generally more of a personal enjoyment and achievement thing, not a weight loss thing. But even so, it might not be worth what it does to other goals you have in life. Only you know! But it's great to realize that balance is important, and that it requires choices, sometimes between things that are both good.
  • Wow...what a great job. I loved reading your blog. You should be very proud. I hope you continue to post with us. Good luck with your journey.
