Big Hello! and WW/Low Carb Questions
A Big Hello to All!
I am looking forward to learning and sharing the journey with you! I joined WW last week and I have a ways to go........I offer my friendship and support - I suspect this will take a while :) I have some health related issues with carbs, so at first I was going to try Atkins - but ultimately realized that without some flexibility - it might not work with my current lifestyle - and I don't want to fail again as a result of feeling like I can't be perfect all the time - so I am trying to combine a lower carb plan with WW - and keep my carbs to the complex ones - oatmeal, whole wheat, etc. One of the other members showed me her week 6 booklet - basically it just talks about using more points for carbs? Has anyone ever tried this - or know of an online group that does this? I am trying to come up with sample daily eating plans and protein ideas that aren't loaded with saturated fat - or lots of fat at all. All ideas are appreciated! Thanks! barefoot |
I successfully combined the carbohydrate-restricted "Protein Power" plan with WW points for about 6 months. Ultimately, I gave it up but still try to restrict carbs to some degree because it does help control my appetite. Here are some low carb/low point things to consider: (Note that the PP program subscribes to the practice of SUBTRACTING fiber grams from carb grams, so things I think are "low carb" might not be so very low, depending on your perspective).
- egg beaters - reduced fat/fat-free cheese - chicken breast - non-fatty fish - soy-based meat replacements (Boca burgers, Morningstar Farms sausage patties/links, textured vegetable protein or other "ground beef" replacers) - non-starchy vegetables (try mashed cauliflower in place of mashed potatoes) - salads, topped with some protein like a can of tuna or anchovies (a whole can of anchovies, drained, is only 2 points), or some grilled chicken breast strips (you can buy these ready-made) A typical menu might be: - Egg McMuffin (egg beaters, soy sausage patty, FF cheese, either on a plate (very low carb) or on a whole-grain muffin/bread) - Salad topped with tuna - Snack of beef jerky, or a babybel light, maybe some cottage cheese - Steamed fish, mushrooms, broccoli (Other dinners at our house: - Omelettes with steamed cabbage - Taco "meat" with salsa, chopped tomato, FF sour cream over a big bowl of lettuce--add a crushed taco shell or two if you like (1 pt each) - VERY thick "meat" sauce over a very small amount (1 - 1.5 oz dry) pasta, big salad - Boca Italian "sausages" with peppers, marinara, and RF mozzarella in a casserole HTH |
