Thin4Life - Week of 10/6/08

  • Ugh I have now gained 7-8 pounds!!!! It was only 4... until I weighed myself this morning. I hadn't weighed myself in 2-3 weeks. I was also traveling, which is HORRIBLE for my weight. I know its mostly all fat that I gained and I can't do anything to get rid of it, which makes me kind of mad. I at least took that frustration and made a very healthy dinner last night - pork roast, roasted potatoes, corn, and cranberry sauce. Yummy!

Oh and I have an appointment with the Maternal Fetal Specialist (high risk OB) tomorrow. Wish me luck. I'm hoping she says that I can just be followed by my regular OB for the pregnancy.
  • Good morning, Lori! Thanks for getting the thread up and running this morning.

It is sad that we've dwindled in the number of people who pop in to our thread...maybe they're just busy. Hopefully they'll come back

Lori: Don't worry too much about the gain--just try and eat healthy and get some sort of activity in each day (walking is great) and that will help. It's hard to watch the scale creep up. When you meet with the specialist ask what you can/can't do. I hope you're able to continue your care with your regular OB.

I had a prettty busy weekend. I had Friday off and even though I had plans to do things they pretty much fell by the wayside. I had the EMG (nerve test) done on Friday and the doctor told me I have severe carpal tunnel in both hands. I talked to someone who work in the hand/microsurgery center on Friday night and she said it most likely is the result of a fall (which I had back in May/June). At least we know what it is and now we can move forward. They are scheduling an appointment with a hand doctor for me. After the test my wrists/hands ached even more and they're still sore this morning. I'm tired of this. On a good note my back hasn't bothered me this week so my trips to the chiropractor have really helped.

The football game on Friday was cold and it took quite a while to thaw out after we got home. It was quite a weekend over all--my dad is back in the hospital with some sort of infection that they can't pinpoint. His platelets have dropped another 4,000 and his defib unit has shocked him 3 times (yesterday). Life is crazy at the moment.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!
  • Lori, Sorry to hear about the gain--I know that you probably weren't expecting it. I also hope that you can go to your regular OB. Glad to hear of your other medical test results. Yum! Pork roast! I'm making a pork chop dish tonight that has sliced apples.

Melissa, I just had to laugh about the football game and being cold. I'm sweating my you-know-what off here. I'm sorry that you have carpal tunnel--is the doctor saying surgery? Make sure you get some opinions if so. What fall did you have? I'm glad that the chiropractor helped your back. Goodness, your dad has had a bad time; I hope the doctors help him out.

Had a good weekend. On Friday, I helped my GF return her leased vehicle in Orlando and then we went shopping! It was fun. I got some good deals: a $185 pair of Cole-Haan sandals for $35. On Saturday I worked at a yard sale and bought a couch! It is very nice and a good deal. Went to a 50th birthday party on Saturday and that was fun. She was a good sport. The bad part was that I ate so much junk! I'm so mad at myself. On Sunday, I ate better and today I'm doing well (it's only morning though).
  • Lisa: I'm glad someone is warm! The wind is chilly here today but at least the sun is shining! I don't think I have much choice because of the numbness that I'm experiencing (all the time). When I talked with the woman I know she even said it was beyond "the splint stage". I fell back in May/June in our lower lounge area--I slipped on the floor and went down on my hands/knees. I did fill out an incident report. I most likely didn't feel the effects until later because of the timing (orientation, etc.) and I aggravated the muscle, etc. more.

I did not do well with eating either--I overdosed on peanuts, crackers & cheese over the weekend. I can't just eat one serving
  • How awful! So, will you be filing for workmen's comp?

Oh, how could you list all of my red light foods? I love peanuts (all nuts). I tell myself they are good for me and then eat way too much. Crackers and cheese--yummy. I like Gouda, cheddar, brie, swiss, Muenster, havarti, etc. etc. LOL
  • I have a question for you, Melissa,. A coworker had a bumper crop of carambola (star fruit). He has brought in some to the office and I love them. I cannot find the point values for them anywhere. Do you know how I can find that out?
  • Lisa: We are definitely connected by our red light foods--the only cheese I don't really care for is Swiss. I talked with our HR person this morning and if the doctor says this is the result of my fall then it will be submitted under the claim that I already filed. It was a dumb slip--one minute I was walking across the room and the next I was sprawled out on all fours! There were 2 other people who saw it so I had witnesses but talk about embarassing! So here's the good news on star fruit--1 large is 0 points! If you have 2 of them it's 1 point so it's a great deal!

I had a horrible night of sleeping--my hands were throbbing and I was up almost every hour. I even got up and took one of my Darvocets but that didn't do anything. I really hate this.

The fall leaves are starting to make an appearance--there's one tree on my way to work that is a beautiful orange/red and the sun hits it in the morning, it's absolutely gorgeous!
  • Hey ladies. So no appointment with the specialist today. They want to get some information from my hematologist/oncologist before they have me in. So it probably won't be for a couple of weeks. I'm disappointed because I was hoping to hear the heartbeat again today!

Melissa - I'm sorry you are having such a hard time of things! My back and my hips have been hurting me a lot in the last week. I'm so happy that I get to go back to physical therapy today. I hope things get better for you soon!

Lisa - Mmmm star fruit... I've never tried that, but always wanted to. Let me know how it tastes! Oh and I love all those cheeses you mentioned too but I can't eat some of them now. The worst is not being able to eat blue cheese!
  • Melissa, Thanks for the information--hooray. I love star fruit; they are so juicy. Someone told me though that people with kidney problems should not eat them--don't know why. Sorry about your hands--that has to hurt. Darvocets are pretty powerful, too.

Lori,Well, darn, I know you wanted to meet with the specialist. If you ever get a chance to have star fruit, try it; I think you will like it. Besides, if you slice it and put it on a cake or other dessert or fruit salad, it's very pretty.
  • Had my professional meeting this morning; we did a trial run of a breakfast meeting. We usually hold meetings at dinnertime. It went well, so we'll probably hold more in the future. We had two speakers and the first one was soooo boring; he read the slides to us. The second one was much better, so she saved the day.

I did well--only ate some eggs and one slice of bacon and a glass of OJ.
  • It is so gloomy here today! It's been overcast all morning and now it's started to rain. I'm really fighting the urge not to curl up in a ball and take a nap!

I went to my WW meeting and was up .4 this week; no wonder since I've had a couple of collisions with peanuts, cheese, crackers this past week. I need to focus!

Lisa: You did good with eating at the breakfast meeting. There's nothing worse than a speaker reading off their slides...B-O-R-I-N-G

Lori: I would've been bummed as well not being able to see the specialist...at least they're checking everything before they meet with you.

I have a 3 pm meeting in a different building on campus so I'll be up and moving.
  • Melissa, Oh well, at least you sort of expected the gain. I've done well this week, but of course today if DH's big 60th birthday, so we have dinner and cake. Cake with friends on Sunday. I'll try to eat small pieces!

Don't talk about rain. Yesterday was horrible! It reminded me of TS Fay. We have mushrooms all over our yard because it's been so wet.

Guess what DH is doing for his birthday? Remember, I told you he's an exercise nut. He has walked or ran 60 miles this week and today he is biking 60 miles. I told him that he had better be awake for his dinner tonight.
  • Lisa You'll be okay with the cake--I can be satisfied with just a small piece since it's really not a trigger food for me. I love your DH's goals this week--I don't know that I could/would do the same but what a great way to celebrate your b-day. Have a nice time at dinner this evening.

It's actually pretty nice here this morning--it's almost 60 and the sun is making an appearance which makes for a much brighter day! The forecast for the weekend is looking really nice--75 and sunny! I really need to sort my clothes and put away my summer stuff and pull out the fall clothes.
  • OK I have seriously been gaining too much weight. My thighs feel fat. My size 10's are starting to get tight around my legs. It needs to stop! I think the problem was that I would gag whenever I even THOUGHT about eating vegetables for quite a few weeks there. Well my nausea is almost pretty much gone so I cut up a pepper and some carrots today for snacks and I didn't get sick to my stomach when I was cutting them up so I think I will be OK to eat them. I'm also going to buy salad veggies tonight (woohoo) and start eating healthier and more balanced meals. I'm hoping that I can just maintain where I am for a few weeks at least. I don't want to lose the weight, just want to sort of "even out" the gaining. I don't mind gaining weight for the baby, but I want it to be healthy!

Melissa - It has been really nice out here lately, high 60's and sometimes 70-72 out. The leaves are gorgeous here right now! Don't worry about that .4, you can lose it

Lisa - I agree with Melissa - a speaker reading from slides is boring! To me that isn't a speaker, that is a reader Good luck with the cake! I have learned in the past few years that cake is just not a problem for me. The icing is way too sugary, and then the cake just tastes blah-ish without good frosting that isn't too sugary, so I end up having a bite or two and thats it. What an amazing goal for your hubby on his birthday! Did he bike the whole 60 miles?
