Thin4Life - March 18, 2002
Good morning. How was your weekend?
DH set up the new aquarium on the weekend and I wonder if I'll ever sleep soundly again. Every little sound has me running to see if it's developed a leak! I guess this will pass, but it's nerve-wracking, to say the least. Points were on the high end for the weekend, but I will make up for that the rest of this week. I intend to weigh-in on Saturday. I'm looking at paint chips again. We've been in this house for over five years and I've wanted to paint the living room/dining room since day one (you can see how I jump right into these types of projects). Right now it's a pale pink - the kind of colour you can easily forget about but which is really irritating when it does catch your attention. Both rooms get a lot of sunlight and have a lot of focal points (fireplace, aquarium, large windows, etc.) I'd like to get a neutral colour that will look different depending on the time of day - any suggestions?? Hope to get outside for a run after work. How is everyone else? |
Good morning!
Seasaw: Thanks for getting the thread up and running this morning! We've been contemplating re-painting our living room as well. Right now it's a really pale peach. I'm thinking of a beige since our couch has beige, green, and a light mauve stripe in it. Weekend wise, I did pretty well with points. I was pretty active so it'll balance out. The boys and I headed down to the university rec center yesterday. I did some walking and a little running. It was a good feeling and I'm not at all sore from the running. I have a yoga tonight and will walk before the class. All in all things are going pretty well. Hard to believe that Easter is just around the corner. |
Seasaw, five years isn't so bad; we've been in our house 22 years, and still need 2 light fixtures, among other projects! Re: paint color, my favorite neutral is a coffee-with-cream shade, which can have rosy overtones (in the afternoon sun) or gold, depending on the mix.
Melissa, it is hard to believe Easter's coming so soon. The wildflowers are already starting to bloom around here (bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, flocks) but we probably won't have a spectacular season this year due to the drought. Am enjoying the few we have, though, and the sweet scent of the agarita bushes, during my morning walks. (That is, when the skunks don't go crazy the night before!) Had a terrific weekend. Also went just a bit over on points, but got lots of exercise, so hopefully did no major damage! Took my kayak out in the bay, around the wildlife sanctuary; saw lots of incredible birds, including a pink or scarlet ibis. (I'm not good at identifying them!) We're only a couple hours from the beach; don't know why we don't go more often. Dh lost 3 lbs at WW! We went to a mtg down there, and the leader turned out to be the same one I started with up here, 3 years ago! It was great to see her, and she was glad to see I'd made lifetime. (Our local mtg folded due to low attendance 2 years ago, so I hadn't seen her in ages; I go out of town for ww.) Have a question for y'all: as lifetime members, do you choose to weigh in each week, instead of monthly? Seems like I ought to do that too. Sorry for the long msg! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Regards, Jan |
Hi everyone from spitting snow seattle. What is with the weather.
My weekend was a maze of work, getting sick, getting sicker and homework. I don't even want to remember it happened. I didn't do too badly food wise, but my only exercise was walking across the living room to get a box of kleenex. House colors: I'm laughing here too. We've been in our house for about 12 years and the living room needed painting back then. It still does. We just can't decide what to do. It has a plate rail, wainscotting and lots of windows. We a fair collection of Haida Art, so we were thinking bold and then white. The rest of the house has paint. The living room needs it too. I'm at work today to have the group whose work I'm presenting (and not paying me anymore) look at the poster and critique it. If they like what they see, I'm going home with a nice mystery, some documentation and some herbal cold relief. seesaw- you post about your aquarium makes me think of when jacques our dog was sick and every little noise he made made me get up. I ended up sleeping on the couch with him that night. Easter is indeed around the corner. Hopefully the easter basset will get his act together and get his eggs filled for the hunt! lala |
Hi Ladies,
I did alright this weekend foodwise except for Fri night. My family loves Buffalo wings and they are probably one of the worst things you can eat pointwise. Didn't get very much exercise this weekend either (unless you consider house cleaning exercise), because the weather was very cold and it rained all day on SUnday. There was even snow on the surrounding hills. My FIL is coming to visit next weekend so Steve and I spent the entire weekend cleaning. Take care everone, JanieD |
Janet: I attend weekly meetings and get weighed in as well. I find this works much better for me. I know there are areas that they don't allow Lifetime members to weigh weekly (which makes absolutely no sense to me).
Janie: The Buffalo wings sure are killer in terms of points. What I do is to use the sauce on boneless chicken breasts and you get the same effect minus all the extra points and it tastes just as good. They use Frank's Red Hot Sauce and margarine (equal parts I believe)....I adjust it to how I like it. There are some stores that actually sell the wing sauce. Weather here is supposed to change yet again...snow is in the forecast later this week...can't wait for Spring! |
Happy Monday - whatever!!!! It's snowing again. Can you believe this! Snow, snow, snow. This is really trying my patience.
Hello everyone and happy new week. Here's the scoop on last week: Monday: 21 (30 min. run) Tuesday: 23 (30 min. run) Wednesday: 21 (no exercise) Thursday: 27 (30 min. run) Friday: Who knows (no exercise, unless you consider lifting a beer bottle to my mouth exercise) Saturday: Who knows again (no exercise) I discovered Rolo ice cream today Sunday: Hmmm gave up counting (30 min. run, 1.5 hour walk) So, the week started out great and went steadily downhill. Mmmmm, rolo ice cream. Seasaw - I've painted every room in my house in the last five years! My house is a cornucopia of colours! Yellow! Sea Foam! Paprika! Coffee with Cream! You name it, I've painted it! Melissa - Happy running! Are you trying it for the first time? lala - sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. Keep drinking those copious amounts of H2O. Janet - I only weigh in monthly - weekly would stress me out. Janie - Hi ya! mmmm WINGS! |
Morning. Thanks for all the thoughts (and confessions) re house paint. I don't feel quite so bad anymore. We'll find something eventually.
kena: Snow??! You didn't get snow all winter. What's with this? Melissa: If you find you like running, you might want to pick up a book on how to take it up safely. DH laughed at me when I took a Learn to Run course, but it was worth every penny and has kept me (relatively) injury-free. lala: So sorry you're not feeling well. Is it a cold or something more? There's a wicked flu making it's way through this end of the continent. Take care of you. Janie: I stay away from wings entirely. They're one of those foods that it's difficult to stop eating once you start (at least for me). Janet: I have been weighing in monthly but that's about to change. I would like to shed a few more pounds, and the only way that will happen is if I show up every week and take responsibility for my actions. My WW centre recently explained their weigh-in policy for lifetime members: as long as you are no more than 2 lbs. over goal weight at your first weigh-in of the month, you can weigh in weekly after that and you don't pay, regardless of what your weight is. Katie: how goes the job hunting? Patch: Thanks for starting another challenge. I'm up for this one! Laurel: We miss you; please come back. |
Hello pals!!!
I have just been utterly swamped and today was the first time (in I'm afraid to even check how long) that i've logged into 3fc. I have a lot of catching up to do! Work has been terribly busy and then getting home at night just bushed... My other news is that I'm quitting as a WW employee. Our franchise was taken over by the big international WW corp and they are doing away with the "weigher" position. Now everyone weighs AND takes the money and does a tally etc. Those are the things I'm not interested in doing (the money part), plus it is so hard to find a substitute...well what with one thing and another I'm saying adios to WW at least from an employment perspective. Not from a healthy lifestyle perspective --- NEVER !!! :) Meanwhile, do I have 5 pounds that won't budge - and an appetite to match? Yes I do!!! catch you later, gotta read about 1 million posts! - Laurel |
Hi everyone,
My cold thingie has turned into a sinus thing, so I'm glad i'll be seeing my bro this week. I am hoping he may be able to shed some light on the matter. Its cold here. We had snow showers all weekend and yesterday too. I hope spring will really happen tomorrow. melissa- start running slowly. I love it and recommend trying a program. I'm thinking about maybe doing a marathon training program, but I have a couple of weeks to decide. kena- rolo ice cream must be a canadian thing. Something to look forward to in the Queen Charlottes. I may be hallucinating, but have I also seen smarties ice cream? seesaw- Paint is a very personal thing, but the great thing is, you can always redo it. You have done an amazing amount of work on your house this year and painting would be the cherry on top of the sundae. My other confession- I used to be a white only girl, now I love colour. More colour the better. janetmae- I am so jealous of your kayaking. I couldn't imagine doing anything more outdoors than taking dog for a walk. Its too cold here. laurel- welcome back. I was worried about you. I am so glad to see you are okay. I understand the last 5 lbs - I'm on the last 11 for the last 17 months. kt, patch and myra and everyone else: hi and hope all is well. well, i'm off in a few to go home, do a few little errands and then get myself to the airport. I'm in San Diego and LA for the rest of the week. I'll be back on Monday afternoon. Should be fun. I hope my poster made it to my parents house in time for my meeting. Weighed in today, down a lb. I should see no more of the 30's again. yeah. lala |
lala - me thinks it's a Canadian thing...........you folks down south may have some good diet food i.e. Skinny Cow......but we have full fat Rolo ice cream - and yes, we have Smartie ice cream (Smarties are the Canadian version of M&Ms). Another fav is McIntosh Toffee ice cream, oh man......this is killing me.
Laurel - Hi! Good to hear from you.....we were all worried. Seasaw - You're right.....I have no right to really complain about snow, considering your bad luck this winter, but really.......why is all the snow falling in March for goodness sakes. It's supposed to be spring. To top is off it is freezing outside! Minus 16 (celcius ladies)......brrrrrr. Also, on the running thing - Seasaw - I also look the Learn to Run program at the Running Room. Fabulous program! Kena |
Good morning all!
It's a perfectly dreary day here and the forecast isn't looking good for the next couple of days. The forecast is calling for lake effect snow! UGH! It's supposed to be Spring for goodness sake! Seasaw: I'm not doing any major running...it's more like a jog and what I've been doing is walking 3 laps and jogging 2... I appreciate the info on getting a book related to running. I think my ww buddy mentioned getting the book Running for Dummies that goes over the basics on running. Laurel: You mentioned about not being a weigher...I've always had to take $$, weigh, update the books, etc. The other center I work at does it a little different. It is a lot of work. Glad to hear from you! Meeting day for me today and I'm looking forward to it. It's been a crazy week here and I'm anxious for Friday to get here. Next week is a short week for me :) Happy Spring! |
Laurel! Great to see you back. I can sympathize. I am totally swamped too. I am every March and April. I edit a yearly statistics book that has to be at the printer by the beginning of May. March and April are also hard WW months for me, because I just don't have the time to plan my meals and tend to grab more to keep me going. I tend to work at times 18 hour days. Last year I gained over 15 lbs. for the two months. I am hoping to not do that this year and rather maintain or at least keep the damage down. Losing will be real hard. But I am really dreading tonight's WI. With all this work and some other stresses, I really I've been munching way too much. Wish me luck.
|
Myra: Sheesh, 18 hour days? No wonder you have a hard time staying on track. Have you given any thought to changing your goal during this busy time from weight loss to weight maintenance?
Melissa: Thought I knew everything there was to know about snow, but what is lake effect snow? We're gonna have some regular stuff tonite but it won't last long. We're in the home stretch now. Bye-bye lala. Have fun in CA. Kena: Stay away from that ice cream. I'm not familiar with any of the flavours you mention cause if I knew about them, there'd be no turning back. Has it warmed up any? LM: So good to hear from you again. Too bad about the changes at your WW centre. How often did you work there? I often wonder why my WW centre doesn't use computers, etc. but I guess that would cut down on employees and the personal contact that we all appreciate so much. This is a short week for me - off on Friday. Then a three-day week, followed by another four-day week. I could get used to this. |
Seasaw, I like that policy; will have to ask if our local franchise will do that. I go to a mtg every week with Dh, who joined 8 weeks ago, and would really like to WI each time, to keep myself on track.
Melissa and Kena, it sounds like you're really tired of the snow, but I wish I could see it! I grew up in Massachusetts, but have lived in Texas since college; it hasn't snowed here in years! Some winters we don't even have a freeze. Lala, I hope your cold/allergy is much better! Maybe the days in San Diego and LA will help; it must be warmer there. Take care of yourself! Re: kayaking, and weather, we have to enjoy it while it lasts; the summers down here are brutal! You'll be enjoying beautiful weather when we're baking in July. Laurel, I know what you mean; I have wanted to lose ten pounds (to reach a personal goal) for six months now, and they just won't budge! I think I need to increase my exercise. Janie, house cleaning just has to count, as hard as it is to do! mpinkham, I have that same problem when work piles up. It's esp. hard to get enough exercise in when I spend hours at the computer. (Like this morning; I have a deadline, so got up at 4 a.m. to work, and skipped my walk! Will have to do it after work.) Sounds to me like setting a goal to maintain is the smart thing to do at a time like that! Good luck with the book! Happy "First Day of Spring," everybody! Regards, Jan |
Yeah, I got a little perspective...I have a new unloved manager. So I have been cutting into my 3FC posting time in order to look busy (and have been busy). Ya know what??? Not worth it!!!! I've changed my ways, gals. Back to the SOS. And to you friends...:)
Anyhoo, does anyone know what a database administrator does? I need to change careers and I understand these people make a lot of money. I work in a networking/computing place so I figure I could get a job here. re: WW - to be honest, I was ready for an excuse to quit being an employee. It's just so difficult to find a sub, etc. And since I'm only getting $10.00 a week, it's not like Eddie will go without cat chow (God Forbid!) if i quit. Ya know what I mean? Hey speaking of disappearing acts, where's KT Marie? |
Seasaw: Lake effect snow happens when the lake isn't frozen and the cold winds pick up the moisture and change it into heavy snow...depending on the winds, temps, etc. it can bring as much as 12-18" of snow...now this time of year it should only be a little but it makes driving a little crazy.
Janet: I think the hardest part with all the snow is that the weather is so dreary, grey and everything looks dirty. I really look forward to Spring and the flowers blooming. I guess it makes you appreciate the changing seasons all the more. Laurel It's good to hear from you again! I know what you mean about something not being worth it...that's how I felt when I was doing some transcription work (psychiatric evaluations)...they were boring and it wasn't the worth the $$ I was getting. I felt so much better when I quit :) On the WW front, I went to my meeting and was once again down--it was .2 this week but it's still down...it brought me to 137.8 :dizzy: I really thought I was going to be up but heck I'm not complaining. I'm getting a little closer to my personal goal. Easter will be tough since I'll be off work Thursday-Monday so I'll have to watch things. This week's meeting was good on portion control. I've been trying to watch a little more and measure and it sure has helped out. It's amazing how things get a little bigger each time we have a serving  Catch everyone later! |
Good day everyone and happy mid-week.
JanetMae - If I could send you the snow I would but I don't think you'd want the cold weather that accompanies it. I really don't mind winter that much - it's just frustrating when it's nice when it's supposed to be cold (January) and cold when it's supposed to be melting (March). Laurel - A database adminstrator is essentially the same as a network administrator - you just manage the database instead of the network - not anymore exciting I would say. I mean, you need a different skill set, know some different programs etc. (not a big stretch for you I would imagine) but I don't think the excitement level is any higher. Seasaw- Nope, it hasn't warmed up. I'm still wearing my winter parka! Can you believe that! And, they say it's going to be unseasonably cold for the next two weeks - not a day of melting in the forecast. Argh. Happy exercising everyone. Kena |
Back from WI and as I suspected I gained -- 1.5. Actually I thought I gained even more so I was happy. I gotta try to be more OP this week no matter the workload.
|
Myra, that' s such a small gain, esp. considering the hard week you had. Is your work schedule going to lighten up any time soon?
Kena, I know what you mean; our weather has been pretty weird lately too. Just missed a huge hailstorm (baseball size) and wind that ripped roofs off houses and toppled semi rigs, an hour north of us. And it's so dry, our ranchers will have to start selling off their herds soon. Where is El Nino when you need it? Melissa, congrats on your loss! And thanks for the hint on portion size; you're right, it's easy to underestimate. I'll have to watch that too. Laurel, re: career change, have you considered teaching? There's a real need for tech folks right now. And it's *anything* but dull! I quit my mgmt job last year to go back to the classroom, and I love it. Just a thought ... Well, it's a beautiful day outside, and I still need my 2-3 miles, so guess I'll get moving! When summer comes, afternoon walks will be impossible, as daybreak is the only time semi-cool enough to exercise outdoors. Lala, hope you're feeling better in LA! Regards, Jan |
Hi everyone!
Beautiful sunny spring-y day today. Birds chirping. Flowers blooming and now it's supposed to snow tonight! Argh. Thanks for your ideas about career things. For me this would be a complete change and require a good bit of training. Mostly I'm looking for more$$$. As I said to a friend at work, I already don't like what I'm doing, so if I get a job that I don't like but I get paid more, I'll be way ahead...so cynical, it's sad, isn't it? Myra, keep yer chin up! We know you're a big loser and I mean that in the BEST sense of the word!!! :) That extra 1.5 will come off in no time! |
Hello everyone,
Just thought that I'd let you know that I WI Wed and had no change. That is ok considering TOM is due at anytime now. I have to work on my portion control as well. It is very easy to stretch a tsp to a tbsp and a 1/2c to 3/4c. Easter is coming and all those choc eggs. My favorite are the milky way eggs:T. Last year I couldn't find them, Maybe I'll be just as lucky this year. OP so far today, JanieD |
Hello to all,
Thanks for thinking of me, ladies! I have fallen off the face of the 3FC's earth for the last several weeks. Seems I just don't get to the computer when I'm at home now. Guess that tells me that I spent too much time on it while at work?? :D Still no job offers. I've only had ONE interview since being laid off in January. I went to a job fair held here in Madison on Tuesday & there was a booth there with a business that helps with resumes, career development, etc. I showed them my resume & they thought it needed some re-working. I may spend the money to see what they can do to help me. I've been subbing a few extra WW meetings, plus I decided to take an At-Work meeting last week. I also signed up DD for the next session of swimming lessons during the daytime. I figure if I fill up my days with commitments, I will sure as heck get a job offer. If I keep things open, then I surely won't get a nibble. Otherwise, not much at the job fair, mostly temp agencies. I did meet with one of the temp agencies today. The weather has been cold here lately. Spring is officially here & it feels like winter. Glad to hear you're all carrying on. Welcome to the new faces I see around here. I'll try to get my butt in gear and show myself around here more. Take care all, Katie |
Hi everyone,
After a few toxic days in LA (no exercise, too many hours in dark rooms with marxist geographers and not alot of points friendly foods), I'm back in San Diego. :) Laurel- a database admin is a fine, fine job. Women are typically very good at database design and programming. I would suggest looking at your local community college, taking a few classes, work with a nfp helping them with their database and start job hunting. Relational databases are where its at is true and so is datamining and other little gems. good luck andmore later, lala |
Hey KT, glad to know I'm not the only one who disappeared for a while. Good luck with that durn job search. It is so difficult! My offer re: submitting your resume still stands.
Lala dawling - so, what's a nfp? spring is starting to spring in a chilly way. daffs in bloom. spent a good bit of time pulling weeds and cleaning up the planting beds. so very pleasant....how we do love weekends. |
