Lightbulb Supporting Each Other on Our Weight Loss Journey

This is a great thread for those who want support, helpful hints, friendship and a great bunch of people to communicate with. This thread has existed for a long time and we keep re-starting it whenever the old one gets too long. Feel free to stop in and chat, we are not a "closed" group and welcome newcomers. Some of us have been together for well over a year, some only a few days, but we care about each other. We offer tips, we share, we pick each other up of the floor when we've had rough times and we applaud when someone does well.

So, please do stop on by and share a bit, support is what it's all about! We can really do this together.

Now that we have a new thread started, time for me to be saying to you all that I will be away for a few days. Keep at it everyone! I might be back a bit later today, we'll see... have got to pack and get things organized here for the kids - they are not coming with us. They are old enough to stay by themselves, but a mom does worry.
Tomorrow morning, very early, my husband and I are flying out of Portsmouth NH and heading to North Carolina. We are visiting dear friends who were transferred from NH to NC about three years ago. I am looking forward to seeing them and being a house guest in their new home.
While looking forward to and knowing that I will enjoy this trip, the Weight Watcher within me is concerned about losing control of food. House guests are not necessarily ones to make demands, so I do hope that I will do well. We will be eating out someplace on Saturday night, so I will be control at that place, at least. There will be wine, but we have been advised to bring walking shoes, which is a very good thing. My friend has a big dog (a Burmese Mountain Dog) that they walk regularly and she mentioned a walking "tour" around some lake that was very beautiful.
So, along with the food, friends, wine, desserts, etc. there will be a chance to walk it off a bit. For that, I am thankful.
So, if you do not hear from me until Monday morning, please do know that I have not dropped off the face of the earth and I really WILL be back!

Have a great time Linda! You'll do great and if you don't do as well as you hope, remember to dust yourself off and continue on.

Well - I am still struggling with chocolate. I know many people just fit it into their program but it's one of those foods that one piece just doesn't cut it for me. I'll continue to get that demon under control but it's just frustrating for me. Besides that, I've had a decent week. I'm really enjoying working out at the gym and the break in the weather. It's helping the psychie a lot.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Linda, good luck on your trip. It sounds like a great getaway!! We are also busy packing for spring break and my whole family is going. I am lucky that my kids favorite eating place is Subway so I will be able to stay on track while on the road - we will be travelling about 16 hrs. in the van.

I plan on excercising on the beach and in the condo's weight room to try and stay on track. I live in a northern state that received more snow then I have seen since I was a kid this winter. I do not think we will be walking outdoors here until at least April - which is getting long since we had the snow already in November!!

BB thank you for the website info - I am going to look up some places so I have an idea when we go out.

Take care all and I am so glad I figured out how to mark this link - I am getting better at it everyday!!

Hi All Happy Thursday!!
Well to day has flown by,well the whole week pretty much has flown by really...I didn't work Monday,Tuesday i started on that truck seat, finished it yesterday, which always feels good to get a job done, except I didn't get paid for that one,I got a boo boo in the process, Dh tried to hog ring my thumb to the seat,LOL!! wasn't funny at the time,I cried like a baby,MIL came to the rescue and bandaged me up, I bled like a stuck hog for sure....so still have the outdoor cushions to do,was hoping to get them done today so I wouldn't have to work tomorrow, but DS was getting sick,he's been coughing for a week, but we thought he was just copying DD and MIL because they've both been sick, then yesterday i could hear the congestion in his cough and after lunch, his nose was running and he was sneezing,I bet he and I didn't get an hour sleep last night,we slept on the couch and he just keep kicking me,so he's resting a little now,I took him to the doc and he had fluid behind his ears, his left was worse than his right, so she prescribed him amoxillan.....This is the very first time he's been sick since he was born except for a runny nose he had a couple months ago, which lasted about 4 days, no temp or anything with that, I didn't even take him to the doc for that, and the doc commented on this being the first time at the doc for being sick, she said you don't see that happen much anymore,I told her we've been lucky.....he'll be 15 months old the 2nd of next month..... but anyway all the side tracking going on with me,I just can't seem to get anything done,so I guess I'll work tomorrow,so I can try to have the cushions done by Saturday I hope,I just want my stinkin' 100.00,i'm tired of being broke......100.00 doesn't go very far now though, not like it used to, especially when you have to buy gas with it!!LOL!!
Linda~ I wish DH and I had friends away like that to go visit,it sounds really nice and the place you described where they live sounds beautiful!! Be safe and careful
Laura~ I love chocolate.....probably not as much as DH but I love it 3 musketeers is my fave ....
BB~ I hope your DH PET scans come back good,I'll be thinking about you ..
4mykids~ You be careful on Springbreak,is that starting tomorrow,on Friday or is it in the next week or so? just be careful and since you'll be driving, watch the other feller,as they always say down here in my part of the country.....
Paige~ I haven't checked on those shoes yet but I'm going to,I'm trying to wait it out a little longer,DH just bought me a pair of shox for Christmas and if he even sees me looking at shoes on the internet he might blow a vein!!LOL He would probably benefit from those shoes more than me,can you use mp3 players too or is it just ipods,or are they the same thing? I don't know about this stuff!! but I bought DH an MP3 for Christmas and he uses it at work, that would be something cool for him to use too!!
well see ya'll later.................

Hi Ladies

Back from the doctors and I had a long informal talk with him about my weight, health & exercise.

He asked why I'm so abscess about my weight,I told him that all my friends are in the 130's and I topping them by 30 lbs. He told me to go down to 1100-1200 calories per day. That should bring your down.

Lower than 1000 is unhealthy, after telling him that I heard that people that want to lose weight has to down 100 cal per decade, that would bring me to cut 600 calories off of my average calorie count 1204 would equal 604 calories per day and he said that was ridiculous.

He said I was healthy and I shouldn't worry about my weight. I told him that I gained my weight going on 2 cruises, his response was don't go on cruises anymore *smiling*.

Exercising,I told him that I'm was doing high impact aerobic [cardio]from the B/L 3 x's a day and low impact WATP for the other 3. Continue to exercise as it never hurt anyone.

I told him about the heartburn, that was caused by chewing gum,and I told him about my 4 bad heart palpitations,he told me not to worry as I wasn't having a heart attack or any stroke.

My doctor must think I'm a nut,but I wanted those questioned answered.

===============================================

LINDA-Have a wonderful time with your old friends and have a safe trip down there. I know, my Kids are in there 30's and I still worry about them. Just leave the number where you are and they can phone when needed to. If you concern about the food that you'll eat,if it doesn't look WW friendly just a 2 bites and have more of the WW friendly type. You must know what some of the foods points are. I have faith you'll do fine, and enjoy the company.

LAURA-Sorry about you chocolate encounter. I like the dark chocolate, but some company's make theirs very bitter,so I keep away from them.Hopefully I will be able to loose now that my doctor suggested have I say between 1100-1200 per day which is 22-24 pts. So hopefully I lose nicely next week.

4mykids3-Glad I could help, going away from home base can be hard on any diet, espeically with Restaurant foods.

Hugs BB

Laura, I struggle with chocolate as well. I think it's kind of universal.
A few tricks:
I have found these chocolate meringue cookies that come in clear, round, plastic containers. If you see them, try them. They are 13 for 110 calories. You really feel like you'd had something when you have 13. They are crunchy and taste like cocoa or something like that, very sweet. I like them with tea after lunch. I always feel like I deserve a sweet treat after lunch and have to be very careful with what I allow myself.
I have also found some Hershey's sugar free individually wrapped chocolates that are only 35 calories each, they are not a full point to have one. Having one relaxes me, but I often end up with two of them. But two nice, creamy, tasty ones are only a point.
Also, sugar free hot cocoa mix helps me as I calms the chocolate urges. I buy Carnation and that is also only 35 calories per serving, and a CORE food.
BB, I wonder what answer your doctor will have about not losing weight. Perhaps we'll all be enlightened. I doubt it.
Once my doctor told me that I had to use common sense with things like fast food. That does make sense. Never get things "super sized" and watch portions of everything. Never get soda, always get water. Good advice. My problems do not stem from fast food, though. I hardly ever eat like that anymore. The old me used to eat like that, though. I have to admit that I do still love MacDonald's French Fries and once in awhile I will allow myself to have them, but maybe four or five times a year now.
4mykids3, have a nice time as well! I'm hoping to enjoy our trip. I'm very apprehensive, truth be told. I've not flown since before 9/11, it's been a long time. My sister gave me good advice, though. She said, relax and have a good time. She reminded me that odds are that I am safer in the air, still, than I am in my car around town. She's probably right, but I still might be scared.
Trysh, sorry your DS is so sick. I hope he's better. My DD is sick and I'm really quite worried about leaving her, but she is 17 and has her own car, etc. There are people here who will watch out for her if she needs help.

BB, sounds like things went fairly well at your doctor's office. I do think that some of us seem to obsess about our weight, however, keeping out weight "in check" is a good thing for our long term health. I'd like to stick around as long as I can and be healthy, I know you know.

Well, It's off line for me and I hope to sleep well and get off on time tomorrow. I'll be in touch if I can be over the weekend, but if not I will chat will you all Monday.
Take care. Love and hugs,
Linda

Good Morning everyone. We had an interesting meeting yesterday about Detours and how if you meet a detour in uncharted country, you take the detour and trust that it will get you where you want to go. Our leader also talked about how if what you're doing isn't getting you where you want to be, now would be the time to look at a detour. In my case, it would be to take another look at core. If you are eating the same thing every week and it's getting you the same result, it's time to look for the detour. So I had eaten only core items so far that day and I opted to give core another shot. Only downfall was that I stopped and picked up a small chef's salad on the way to my 2nd job, ate it intending to count the cheese and I used Wishbone balsamic vinegar spray for dressing. I then went home to refresh my memory on core. Deli meats are NOT on core so now I need to count the cheese and the deli meat. Slaps head. I read more of the core program last night and then brought the book with me for lunch. I think lunches will be a bit more difficult but I did bring the stuff for the navy bean w/greens salad for lunch. Sounds yummy, filling and totally core. I do have to say that I was still hungry when I got home last night so I ate a serving of fat free cottage cheese and was excited that I didn't have to count it. So I'll try to keep reporting how I like it.

I'm off to the gym again tonight. Thrilled that I will have been to the gym 3 times this week. Beautiful weekend in the forecast so I intend to get some walking in also.

I hope Linda's having a great trip. Stop by and let us know you everyone is doing!

Hi Ladies

Got on the scale today and I gained 3 lbs. since last week. I have no idea what happening to my bod. My DH thinks I'm drinking too much water,he told me to 1/2 it and see what happens. I haven't had anything salty as I'm watching my sodium intake.

menu 24pts=1200 cal.
b-1c cold H/F cereal,strawberries 1c soy milk[4]
d-Amy's Veggie Lasagna and 1 c salad with dress[9]
sn-apple[1]
supper-L/C 4 cheese pizza,salad with dress[9]
des-1c chocolate milk[1]

==========================================

SHELBYSMOM-Thanks for the good wishes, hope your right ,and the worry will be behind me soon. WoW having a DH that plays the guitar.I try to tun in thanks for sharing.

LINDA-He did say that WW 22-24 pts was a good range [1100-1200]calories.But I should go down any further as that would be unhealthy. I believe your doctor is right with the common sense, and portion control.Thats the reason I came back to WW,because the other diets out there are not that strict in that regard. I think hes right as my DH thinks I obsessed also.Another lady that I post to on another board, said I set my goals to high, and when I don't achieve that goal I obsess over it.She told me to set a goal of 2-3 lbs per month and see if that works.Going to do so.

LAURA-Thanks for sharing what your leader told you at your meeting. Detours, gee! I have lots of them but don't know which way to go, I get lost fast. Maybe I could thing about which detours that I have are the worst
,and try to tackle them.

Have a nice afternoon

Hi All,

Happy Friday - we have had three days of sunshine and some of our snow is melting so everyone is in a good mood.

Rosegarden - I had my meeting this morning about detours also and I thought it was great. I read your message about chocolate and I have to admit it was the lemon girlscout cookies that were my problem this week. I figured out too late how many points they were and I did not get much for supper that night!!! I hope I learned my lesson for awhile

BB- I wish my Dr. told me not to worry about my weight!! But honestly, it is frustrating when you are doing everything right and the scale is not moving.

Shelbysmom it sounds like you are doing what I am today between cleaning and laundry but hopefully I finish before my kids and husband get home so I can play this weekend.

Linda good luck flying. I flew for the first time since 9/11 about a year ago and it was fine. Our whole family is flying this summer on vacation and my son has never flown so he is really nervous but excited at the same time.

Well, I hope everyone's Friday is going great. I am looking forward to the weekend as usual.

Oh, Paige, what type of shoes did you get again - I need a new pair - let me know how they are.

Good Morning Ladies

Slept late again, as I was watching movies on TCM all night. The first was"GasLight" with Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer and than "Bunny Lake is Missing"With Laurence Olivier". Theres nothing like the old time movies,in my book anyway.

After I got up,for breakfast my DH went back to bed. His body is aching all over, and all he want to do is sleep. Its raining and very damp,so we have the fireplace going. Now I'm in a quite house, only to hear the clock on the wall ticking, and some birds making noise on the gutters,I guess building a nest.

Going to keep my calories low this week between 1100-1200 like the doctor ordered. That would be 22-24 pts in the WW pt system.I also started to drink less water than I have been, dropping it from 80 oz down to 48 oz. and see what happens. In the exercising dept., I'm going to increase my mins from 30 to 60,once in the morning[before breakfast] and the other in the evening [after supper].

my menu-25.5=1250

b-Spreadable fruit on WW English Muffin with soy milk[5]

d-Italian sausage with Peppers[7]

sn-strawberries & cool whip[2]

Supper-L/C chophouse Steak,salad and dress[8]

des-Bk bean cake with WW yogurt[3.5]

Have a nice weekend

Hugs BB

Good afternoon - I've spent two hours out in my yard, raking, pulling stuff and picking up limbs and sticks. My yard is full of trees so it's always a several week project to get it back in shape after the winter. I took advantage of the sun and warm weather to try to get a jump start on it this year. Most of the snow is melted but we do have another storm in the forecast for next week. Blech

I also spent about an hour this morning pulling some core recipes off the site. It should be easier than I first expected. I did core half heartedly twice before but kept to some very basics which is probably why I deserted it.

Hey BB - I took a look at your menu and it looks tasty but you should add some healthy oils and veggies in. Your body needs a rounded diet to function optiminally. I know what it takes but I too have a hard time getting it all in.

For lunch, I'm having brown rice with salsa and a bag of Steamfresh veggies. I know I should have a protein, maybe I'll add a glass of milk. We're waiting for delivery of the new dishwasher and I can't use the water or the sink right now and this was microwaveable.

Have a good weekend everyone. As soon as the dishwasher is hooked up, I'm planning to do some of pre-cooking for the week

TOP OF THE MORNIN' TO YOU LADIES,HAPPY ST.PATRICK'S DAY

DH and I are going to have a traditional Irish Breakfast this morning. With Fried eggs, Irish Bacon,Black[blood]pudding,Irish soda bread, with marg.& some tea. check with it day and its only 648 calories and than the Corned beef potatoes & cabbage will be 416 cal. The total for the day 1065,which isn't bad at all.

The challenge was bad for me 2 weeks ago & last when I gained 4-lbs. Don't think I'll go on anymore challenges.I get to obsessed over them. Its just going to be one day at time for me now on.

LAURA-Maybe your right I have to work those fats in.As far as the veggies I eat lots of veggies other than salads.I guess I didn't include them in Saturdays Menu. Thanks for pointing them out to me.

Have a good one

Hugs BB
