Oh No!!!

I rejoined WW 2/20. My first weigh in I gained .8 pounds and my second weigh in I gained .4 pounds. I stay within my point range. I drink the water. I walk 40 minutes a night. At ww they said my journal looks good - and give it time, it will work. Will it??

SarahDeLynn 03-07-2002 04:14 PM

oh no, indeed! Hang in there, though.

Were you walking before you started WW? You could be building some muscle, which will make you add a little good weight! Also, when you start excersing, your muscles start holding more water, too. You might actually try adding even more water. Don't worry! It really will start coming off, and it will get easier, too. :) It sounds like you are doing GREAT.

it could also be pms. i gain 4lbs right before, and lose them after. annoying, but predictable.

i'm sure it's something similar; you might want to watch your sodium content too....that could cause you to retain water.

This may be of some interest to you. I was watching Oprah last week and her fitness expert, Bob Greene was on. He was saying that when his clients begin to exercise and to drink adequate amounts of water, they do retain extra water in their muscles (as per above response). It is the body hydrating itself and he says he actually looks for this gain. It tells him that the metabolism is working and that person is going to do particularly well.

I know it is very discouraging when you gain, particularly when you are doing everything right. It was funny because I have been exercising for a while and I only recently joined weight watchers and after I saw this I got a little worried as I had not gained any weight (LOL).

Keep on doing what you're doing and I'm sure you will do great! Keep us posted next weigh-in.

Thanks - that information was a little more encouraging. I actually made a doctors appointment for Monday. So far, my weigh-ins have been +.4, +.8, -1.2, and +2.4. So I have gained a total of 2.4 pounds. As for the PMS, I had a hysterectomy almost 2 years ago - No more pms, but I feel the estrogen has had an effect on my not being able to lose weight. I'll see what the doctor has to say tomorrow.

Hello Heidi:dizzy:

I am glad I read your posting. I have recently started WW once again but not at meeting. Here at home with a friend who is living with me for a few months.

Anyways, I wanted to pass on some information to you that I recently read on the internet. It might help, it may not. I personally have never tried it. Mind you I will if I ever hit a plateau (too soon to tell).

Let me know what you think of it and if you try it. Just check out the URL, make sure to read the entire page.

Weight Gain

Heidi,

Don't get discouraged. I joined WW 8/98 and my first weigh in I gained 3 lbs!!! Talk about horrible. I was eating alot (almost every meal) of processed/high sodium foods like frozen dinners, HC hotdogs etc. I cut that out to maybe twice a week. I started eating more fresh chicken and fish and lots of veggies & fruit. Well, 3 1/2 years later and 165 lbs lost. Keep your chin up and your eye on the prize. It will happen before you know it!!!

Fit4life,
Could you share some of your experiences that helped keep you on program? You have had a wonderful weight loss and I'd sure like to benefit from some of what you've done. I find keeping on track really hard because of emotional eating.

I agree Itryharder. Please Fit4life give us some encouragement. I'm an emotional eater, too and had done well for the first 2 months this year, but lately, I'm starting to gain the 7 pounds back that I lost. That wouldn't be so bad if I didn't need to lose 30+ more.
