Smoothies!!!

I have recently become OBSESSED with making smoothies! A woman in my WW group makes them all the time and has been sharing recipes---she makes all kinds of combinations using the WW smoothie mix, yogurts, ice creams, fruits, Fiber 1 bars, and the list goes on!!!

I've been making at least one a day, and they are usually 3 points, with both of my milks taken care of! I'm in heaven! especially since I don't drink milk!! My favorite so far is vanilla WW smoothie mix, one WW latte bar, Walden Farms 0 calorie caramel sauce. It's amazing! ;)

I was wondering if anybody else had any good suggestions for me to try. I'm open to just about anything---and I have all kinds of fruit, 0 calorie sauces, WW ice cream, WW yogurt, etc. available. I was thinking maybe something with pumpkin?? Thanks so much!!!

They sound yummy!

Not really a smoothy but I have been making coffee coolatas. I use a cup of hot water, instant coffee, a splenda, fatfree milk and ice. (the hot water is to dissolve the coffee first) blend it together, top it with some fat free whipped topping...yummmmmy! Just like dunkin donuts!

I was coming to post a thread on smoothies myself and... here one is :)

I recently started to make one smoothie in particular. I wanted to start taking coconut oil... and this is yummy (of course those who aren't eating the healthy stuff, think its gross).

1 banana
1 tbsp pure virgin coconut oil
1 packet spenda
3 tbsp FF plain yogurt
1 c. skim milk

I mix it with my hand blender. The banana makes it a little thicker. I drink this before I workout.

That coffee drink sounds good. Definitely going to have to try that!

For an occasional treat, or whenever you have points, you could add one of those 100 calories packs to the basic smoothie ingredients and crunch them up just enough to make a Blizzard. Not exactly the healthiest snack, but helpful to keep us away from the real thing.

I would just like to throw something out here -

I make a smoothie with buttermilk (1 glass)
1 frozen banana
various other frozen fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

When I go shopping I buy lots of fruit and then put about half of it in the freezer in small baggies. With the bananas, I buy a bunch every Saturday but never make it through the whole bunch, so I take the nearly-brown bananas and cut those up (1 per baggie) and put them in the freezer.

Frozen fruit, especially the banana, reduces the need for ice and sweetener (in my opinion). I do sometimes throw a splash of fruit juice/water (we have something here called Spa & Fruit - that's mineral water with a bit of real fruit juice) in my smoothie if my blender is having a hard time blending all the chunks up.

If you want added protein, you could add sunflower seeds or walnuts in the smoothie as well.

My Regular Banana Smoothie (what I posted at the top) is 2 points. And it's FILLING.

I have a question! I want to invest in one of those hand blender things, you know the type they use on cooking shows on TV, but wasn't sure how they would do making smoothies. Anyone use one of these? Thanks :)

I was planning on buying one of those Magic Bullet Blender/Chopper/chiropodist (see the sarcasm "they do everything") things. They seem to be very multi purpose, and only have room enough to make 1 smoothie at a time, so perfect for me! And they're dishwasher safe :D

My stepsister has one of those. They work fine if you're trying to chop something soft, like fresh fruit, but once you get into something harder, like frozen fruit, they really don't live up to their "do everything" reputation ;)

banana smoothie

Banana Smoothie
1 c. Ice
1 c. milk (I use 1% fat milk)
1 tbs sugar (can use sugar alternative)
1 tbs vanilla essence (i use vanilla extract)
3 small Ripe Bananas

Put all in a blender and let it do the work!
I've calculated that it's about 7 points for the whole thing but I split it up into 4 servings so it comes to about 1.75, I counted it as 2 points a serving. This calculation is with regular sugar and 1% fat milk.
Enjoy!!:cb:
Note: If you don't use ripe bananas you WILL be able to tell if they were green!
