Thin4Life - Week of April 7, 2008

  • Good morning Lifers, soon-to-be Lifers, and anyone else lurking who would like to join us!

It's been a beautiful 2 days here in my corner of Pennsylvania--yesterday we hit 67 degrees and today is supposed to be the same; I'm getting spoiled by the nice weather. My crocuses are blooming and the daffodils are soon to follow. I love this time of year.

I've been holding my own with eating and am happy to report that I've been writing everything down and have kept up my journal even over the weekend which has been a struggle over the past year. At least I'm moving forward in that direction. I'm counting down the days till my doctor's appointment on Thursday--the tired, buzzed feeling has returned and I've been fighting to stay awake. I have been getting out for walks but they're not energizing me like they should and that's another indicator that something is definitely off.

    So how was everyone's weekend?

Lisa: Did you have a nice trip to Canada?

Hi to everyone else! Looking forward to hearing how everyone is doing.
  • Melissa, Thanks for starting the thread. My trip to Canada was great, but exhausting. It was waaaay to short It took 20 hours to get home again. The area was beautiful. DH and I took walks, went dogsledding (wow!) and went on a sleigh ride. The wedding was very nice. I sang Ave Maria.

I'm glad you're journaling. I've stopped doing that which probably isn't good. I hope your doctor is able to help you. That must be awful. Your weather sounds great. We're in the upper 70's here.

Lori, You'll be in PA? State College is supposed to be very nice. Good that you got the big M. As you said, better than a gain.

Well, I'll be packing again. I'm headed to Cincinnati for a conference. It's always a good one. It's supposed to be in the 60's there which isn't bad. In Whistler it was 40 and 20's at night.
  • Lori: Penn State has a beautiful campus but there's not a whole lot around there--it's kind of in the middle. The Creamery is well known and a lot of the kids here love it when they go to Penn State for competitions. My son was there a few years back for a science competition and he said the campus was so big that he got lost trying to find his residence hall! I'm a few hours away (can't remember exactly how many) but I'm on the shores of Lake Erie.

Lisa: Glad your trip was nice; I never liked doing a lot of traveling and have to say it's been nice not having to jet off to Chicago all the time. I'm still pretty busy.

One of my former student workers has asked me to present her with a senior award at a ceremony and I'm honored. She is a really good kid and will go far because she has a great work ethic and is involved. She's going to school to be a special education teacher and along with that is active in the Greek system. She has a lot on her plate and is still able to maintain honors!

I spent a good portion of last evening with my friend and came home exhausted and thus hit the cupboard--I ate these oreo cake things that I normally don't even like, they were so sweet and not only did I eat but two! Ugh. Tomorrow is my doctor's appointment and I'm anxious to talk with my doctor about using both of the meds for my thryoid; I'm hoping she'll be receptive to this.

The sun was out today although the temps dropped from 62 to 52 I did manage to get out for a brief 20 minute walk. Went to my meeting and I was up 1.8#; this is getting old. Maybe with the medication changes things will get better.

    More tomorrow!
  • Good afternoon everyone. Not much going on here. Today was my weigh-in day and I lost 1/2 lb. Of course it's part of that same pound I've been chasing up and down the scale!!! I could probably lose more if I didn't eat every single solitary point I have coming to me but I do and I'm not ready or willing to give that up (I typed "able" too but I guess I am able!).

My son hasn't felt good yesterday or today. Stomach flu I guess. He has decided to go to Arizona State so I'm happy he decided but it's kind of far for me My older boys are at college too but one is 1 hr away and one is 3 hrs away. Oh well, such is life

I have been wondering why I never have any time (esp. since I don't drive my kids all over the place any more!) so at work we decided we would write journals on what we do with our time each day (on our weekends). I have decided I have a boring but very busy life! Go figure! I spend alot of time eating!!! exercising, driving, shopping, on the computer! reading and sleeping! And I can't forget working. I guess that is what most people do it's just strange to see it written out.

Ok, gotta go eat then get to bed before work tonight! There I go eating and sleeping again Hope everyone has a great week. Jane
  • Lori, I highly recommend Whistler, Canada. It was great fun and the people were so nice. How are you feeling?

Melissa, Yes, you used to travel so much, especially to Chicago. That was nice of the student worker to ask you--an honor! Let us know what your doctor says.

Jane, That isn't so far away, is it? I'm sure he'll be fine. You made me laugh when you mentioned the pound you keep chasing up and down the scale--sometimes that's me, except it's usually more than a pound. LOL Regarding what you are busy doing--the computer can be a big time suck!

Well, folks, I'm headed home soon. Friday is a non-work day, hope to play some golf. Saturday I have a 5K and then bridal shower. On Sunday, I travel to Cincinnati for a conference--may not be posting much next week.

    Have a good weekend.
  • It ended up being a pretty nice day, although it was pretty cool (50) the rain seems to have stayed away. We're supposed to have storms tomorrow and the temps are supposed to be a little warmer than today but over the weekend they're going to drop again. It's that rollercoaster spring weather!

My mini daffodils are blooming as are my crocuses, the big daffodils have buds so a couple of nice days and they'll be blooming as well. My lilac bush and forsythia have buds so everything has that light green tinge. I just love this time of year!

One of my coworkers and I have been taking 15-minute afternoon breaks and getting outside for a walk--it's been a great way to get moving and clear my head.

My doctor's appointment went really well today--she read the information I had dropped off and said that we definitely had to add back the synthroid since I couldn't just take the cytomel alone. We are going to use the combination since it's helping my other level and since I told her that I had initially felt great when I first started taking it. She said that since it was working we're going to use the combo. I told her again how pleased I was that she was willing to work with me on getting me back on track and feeling better. I got my new prescription for the synthroid as soon as I left. I'm hoping it won't take long for the synthroid to build up in my system, she didn't think it would take that long. Hopefully once my meds get stabilized my weight will follow. She also said that the swelling in my ankles is a symptom of hypothyroid and that it should go down once I get my meds going.

I just need to be patient because I've been so tired and that makes me "think" I need something to eat! Last night was not a good one because I went from one thing to another. I've been doing good up to this point with keeping track.

Tomorrow night DH and I are going to the playhouse to see a comedy act, Three Poles Go Into a Bar...it should be fun because one of the comediens is from Comedy Central and he was a really good friend of my DH in school. They're going to have a Polish food tasting (pierogies, kielbasa, etc.) so it should be interesting. Saturday morning I have to be up early to take DS #2 to the university to take his ACT test. Other than that it should be quiet. I could use a day to just curl up with a book and do nothing.

So where's everyone else??? Hi to Pam, Tanya, Grammaknits, and anyone else I may have forgotten.
