Default Thin4Life - Week of February 25, 2002

Good morning all It's a balmy 55 degrees here and it's only 9:30 a.m.! Wow! I'm anxious to get outside at noon and do some walking!

The weekend was on the quiet side. I did a little shopping and treated myself to a new outfit in fuschia. Anyway, I have my follow up appointment with my doctor today about my blood pressure. It's gone down a little since I saw her last so we'll see what we're going to do. I went to my allergy dr re: sinuses and he gave me a prescription for amoxicillen--I was surprised because he hasn't given this to me since I first started going to him in 1987 because I don't usually respond to it--I told him that it doesn't work for me but he said he wanted to try it and to let him know if I wasn't feeling better in 5 days...well I still have the rotten headache so guess who's getting a call tomorrow morning!

I hope everyone had a good weekend and if the weather was nice that you were able to take advantage of it.

Hi Melissa,

Thanks for starting the thread this week. I'm glad to hear that your bp is down an bit and that you are going to try some antibiotics for your sinus infection. Maybe its a different dosage of amoxicillin or a new formulation that will do the trick.

So, what can I say, I'm going to a funeral tomorrow for my friend's dad who died from Lou Gherig's disease. Its so sad, he was diagnosed a year ago and died last week. My friend is devastated and we're going to support him and his wife, my dear friend also.

Its also my birthday tomorrow, so, methinks we'll celebrate the next week.

Pretty mellow weekend here, spent Friday in Berkeley, concocting lists fo things for caretaker of house to do, enjoying sunny weather and eating good food. Spent Saturday recovering from Saturday morning's flight and yesterday we spent in the garden, running the dog (muddy puppy) and doing homework .

This week I'm focusing on trying to stay in control and finishing up some time dependent stuff. We're off to D.C. on Thursday for the weekend, so hopefully the weather will cooperate. I know that I'll be at the Y each day we're there, so at least the exercising will be taken care of.

Patch- What? take a week off between changing jobs? You are too good. I hope you got your ducks in a row. Good luck on your first day.

kena, seesaw- Congrats on the gold !

laurel, kt, myra, etc...- How about some peeps. Myra, a tattoo? I love the idea of treating yourself well for your second 10% lost!

okay, a tome is written, a lala tries to get something of note done.

I've just been so overloaded with work. Not much time to post.

Yep, Lalala, a tattoo. I've been thinking about it for a while and I thought that it would be a permanent reminder of my accomplishment and motivation not to go back. With all the work, it has been hard to stay OP, but I am determined to do so and hopefully get back to goal before too long. Just under 15 lbs. to go.

Happy Birthday one day early to lala!

Had a great weekend - what a hockey game! Never have I seen so much Canadian pride! My only concern, why does it take a hockey game to bring out our national pride?????? Yesterday was kind of like living a beer commercial for a day. While I'm sure the Americans were disappointed to lose I somehow don't think that their national identity was contingent on winning or losing.

Speaking of beer, wow, too much was consumed this weekend, points not counted.......today is a new day and a new week.

Busy week ahead but I will definately stay on track.

No other news - hi to everyone.

Hi all.

Happy Birthday lala. Sorry to hear of your friend's Dad's death. It's never easy is it, even when it's expected. I hope you do something special today to mark your day - even if it's small.

Kena: How do you know when an entire country has lost its grip over hockey? When your 75-year-old mother, who has never watched a hockey game in her life, has a bottle of champagne lined up to celebrate the win. Whew! I can't quite get over that image...

Myra: A tatoo eh? Brave woman.

Melissa: Hope you will find some allergy relief soon. My asthma - which was never that bad to begin with - seems to be worsening. I have an appointment with a specialist in March to see what's going on. It seems I have to start and end each day with ventolin. What's with that??

Eating still out of control. Starting over - again. Sigh. What's wrong with me?

Happy Birthday Lala!

Seasaw: I truly think it's the ever changing weather that has me in a tailspin. I'm calling the dr. this morning because the antibiotic he gave me isn't helping that much. Grrr.

Update on the blood pressure: I went to the dr yesterday and it's coming down...it was only 122/84 which is much better. She thinks it was due to my bc pills and the estrogen level even though I was on a really low dose. It'll be interesting to see how things go.

The weather here is crazy...it was 62 yesterday, this morning it was 50 and they're saying by tonight we'll be in the low 30's with snow! Yikes! It's hard to remember it's only the end of February and we could still have another 2 months of snow.

Next week will be quiet around here since the students will be on break...I'll still be here though

Better get moving on some things here...catch everyone later!

Hi everyone,

I'm at work after being at a funeral most of the day - well driving etc. Sad, but glad to be there for my buddy.

Melissa- Thanks for the cake!

Sounds like your bp may be bc related. Sounds like you also have a good relationship with your doc.

Well, sunny here. No real plans but to try to eat a low point dinner, go to the lab and maybe get a run in. DP was up alot of the night fretting about work budgets that affect my position, so after about 3 am, I didn't sleep very well. I'm tired now.

I hope everyone else is okay and I'll catch you all tomorrow- a day older than my previous 29.

Mornin' all. I'm heading out of town on business - back on Friday.

Just wanted to report that I had a decent day yesterday with regard to eating. The way things have been going lately, that IS news. Also got a short run in - on the treadmill, but I punched up both the speed and incline.

Have a good couple of days and I'll see you on Friday.

Default She's alive!!!

Good Morning ladies!!

I've been MIA for the last week or so. Seems like it's harder to be on the computer now that I'm no longer at a regular job.

I decided to go out of town last weekend. DD & I drove to the Twin Cities to see the family. My mom's 79th BD is today, but we had a celebration for her on Sunday. Very nice to see her plus all my siblings (2 of my sisters were there & my 3 brothers). Left on Friday & came back Tuesday. Got a touch of the flu for about a day, but seemed to be doing okay (still have a little diarrhea - Sorry to be graphic). Weight is down a couple of pounds, so let's hope that's a permanent thing.

Still not much luck on the job front, but I am trying to take it one day at a time. DH is much more laid back about the whole me not working thing, so I'm grateful for that. I guess I'm the main one who's putting pressure on myself.

lala - Happy Birthday one day late!! Hope you had fun.

Melissa - glad to here the BP is coming down somewhat. My BP is on the lower end (about 100/60), but my dad had high BP. I saw a blip on the news last night saying that about 9 out of 10 people over 55 will have high blood pressure. Could hardly believe it - 6 months later we'll probably hear something contrary.

Seasaw - I hear you about the out of control eating - I am trying to keep it in check myself. Does the asthma affect your ability to run??

Myra - wow, a tattoo. Good for you!!

kena - hey there! Congrats to the Olympics men & women's hockey teams.

Well, I'd better run. Gotta prepare for my meeting tonight.

Take care ladies & thanks for thinking of me.

Seasaw,

Glad things are going so great. I've had a challenging few weeks and don't expect much from my WI tonight. I have to turn things around, get more serious about portion control and what I eat. I hope you are able to do well while you are away. That is often hard.

Just a quick note as the week flies by. I'm back to a normal routine this week and feel great.....back to the treadmill and controlled eating. Ahhhhhhhhh. Odd how we now crave these things in life.

The weather is back to cold and snowy this week. Perhaps it is Mother Nature's last kick at winter....what am I saying?.....it's not even March yet......winter is far from over.

Melissa - How are you feeling? Did the medication help out the old sinuses?

Seawsay - You will get it under control! Are you denying yourself something that is making you splurge?

Hope everyone's week is going well.

It was a better WI than I thought. I lost 1 lb., which is amazing because I ate out A LOT this week.

Way to go Myra....

You'll be back at goal soon enough.

Me, I guess I should be happy that I can do a handstand in yoga and not lose weight.

I'm getting things organized here at work and ready to head out the door. I have to write up this letter tonight voicing my and our community councils thoughts on a huge park project in our area. I have been avoiding it like the plague. I am an excellent procrastinator.

Tomorrow I'm off to DC for the weekend. Funny place to go, but we wanted to go away, but didn't want to go out of the country. Should be fun. I'm going to try and wi too.

So, have a great weekend everyone!

Wow, doing a handstand is an accomplishment. I am proud that I can do a shoulderstand, LOL! I love yoga! I need to take more time and do more of it. I'm down to once or twice a week, but work, other things, keep getting in the way.

Good morning everyone!

Katie: Glad to hear from you!

Kena: The sinuses are finally getting better. The dr called in Augmentin for me and it has helped. I agree with how once you begin staying on track, exercising that you crave it. I feel so much better when I'm following my points, etc.

Myra: Way to go on your loss! 1# closer to goal

Lala: Congratulations on being able to do a handstand in yoga! I haven't been able to go to my class since it started. With having a sinus infection I just can't bend over without my head feeling like it's going to explode. I'm hoping that the infection will be all cleared so that I can start back up after the students come back from break. I really enjoy the class. Have fun in DC!

We had some pretty nasty weather here yesterday. A portion of our thruway (I-90) was closed due to a series of accidents involving an estimated 100 cars. Very scary. Thankfully there was only one fatality and most of the people involved in the accidents were treated and released. I spoke with my sister in VA this morning and she said the accident made their paper. Today it's clear and the sun keeps peeking in and out. The weather here is so changeable with the lake.

I braved the weather and went to my WW meeting at noon and was up .2 which is nothing. I'm still hanging on to 140. Anyway, not much else going on. The students are leaving for Spring Break so the campus will be relatively quiet next week. Hope everyone is staying warm.
