a newbe question
hi me again...boy are you guys gonna get sick of me in a hurry im being such a bother but i was wondering if anywone use the ww meals very much. im looking over all the infor on the ww on line site and its really very overwhelming. i was gonna do flex then i thought core would be better but after looking over the meal plan for core the reciepes are really a bit more complex then im used to. im not a very good cook really and i dont have a lot of time so i think i will go with the flex for now until i get a handle on things i think i need the stucture so i was wondering how "healthy" the frozen dinners really are??? any suggestion????

Sometimes I eat them along with a tossed salad. The frozen dinner itself usually isn't enough for me to get full.

Core really isn't that complex and you can make the cooking for it as simple or as complex as you want.
The frozen meals are pretty high in sodium (however sodium in Subway subs is higher as is most dining out foods). To me you can get much more food for the same or less points as a frozen dinner doing it yourself. For the most part they are not as healthy as cooking for yourself. The Core Board here and at the official W/W site has some great and simple tips and recipes so check them out. I do both Core and Flex depending on my week. I bounce back and forth. It's not like you are tied to one plan (ie, you pick one and you are stuck) you can switch at the beginning of any W/W week. |
As Kelly said, the WW meals aren't the best choice for a long-term basis, but I think they are better than many other things you could be eating, such as boxed dinners that are higher in fat and sodium.
How about cooking some chicken breasts in the crock pot, since you're short on time, then buy some fresh or frozen veggies to steam or microwave. Add a whole grain and some bagged salad, and you've got a nice, healthy dinner. Vary the protein, etc, and you're good to go! |
Here is another suggestion:
get a Geo Foreman grill (or something like it)...while you are cooking the meant (usually less than 5 minutes or so) you can microwave a baked potato and some canned or frozen veggies. Bingo in about 5-8 minutes you have a healthy dinner. |

How interesting, Kelly. I had no idea that the Subway subs have a lot of sodium! I used to eat the WW dinners at work almost daily, but quit doing that due to sodium.

Mostly the processed lunch meats but the bread also.
www.subway.com can give you all the nutritional values of the subs you enjoy and you can see how much sodium is in the ones you like. The under 6 gram Ham sandwich has 1260 mg of sodium; the Club has 1290 mg of sodium and the Veggie Delight has 500 mg of sodium. |
Almost any processed food is higher in either salt or sugar..You don't have to be a good cook to do well on Core..
