I weighed 214 and am 1/4" shorter than you. I am younger but I began when I was almost 40. I am here to tell you it can be done. Find something that fits into your life and just begin. Don't look at the big picture. Start with 5%. Work on that 5% and then go from there. I know when I got below 200, that was all I needed to keep me going. I believe you can do it. I look forward to hearing about all your success. :)

W/W has a couple options that doesn't including meeings.
1) at home program - this is a package you purchase and it gives you all the tools you need to do the program that you would get at the meetings 2) online - this gives you everything you need online. The only thing is with both of these you have to be accountable to yourself in making sure you follow the program and weigh yourself and be honest with yourself. I have a friend who is over 50 and has gotten to her lifetime goal and gained back and has now regained her goal. It can be done. |
Ww
I do the online program and it has been immensely successful for me. I like WW because it is more a lifestyle than a "diet". Coming to this board every day helps me be accountable.

I like WW online too. I was going to meetings and our leader was nice, but not very motivating. The online WW has great tools but as others have said, you have to keep yourself motivated. And it's cheaper than going to the meetings.
I am over 50 too and you come to realize that if you're ever going to lose it and keep the weight off, that's it's something you MUST do for a lifetime - as impossible as that sounds. That's why you need to find a program and food that you can live with and why the fad diets never work for long. Good luck to you Faylene - let those grandkids be your motivation when you need strength. |
Been there, done that!
We sound like we are in similar situations. I am now a size 22w, 49 years old and have a couple of grandkids. I have diabetes, border on hypertension, have DVT in my legs AND have an inactive thyroid. Sitting all say at work doesn't help.
HAVE YOU HAD YOUR THYROID CHECKED? I lucked out and found a doctor that prescibes natural thyroid replacement. It seems to be working wonders with lots of issues. After being on conventional Artificial thyroid replacement for years. He also prescribed CINNAMON for my sugar level and blood pressure. You have got to get to that FED UP point. FED UP to where nothing can stop you. For me the personal blog is therapuedic. Let's face it - there are no quick solutions, no MAJIC pills. It's like I told my doctor, "I know WHAT to do, I just need to DO IT! That's where we need to be schooled. I have a hard time with exersize. I am getting a bike this week so I can do something outside. I hate being couped up inside. Exersize helps so much. But after being inactive for so long one must move slowly and steadily increase activitey. Most people who don't exercize are tired BECAUSE they don't exercize! Good luck! |
Hi Falene, I'm 54, have 6 grands and am a WW-at-home person. I got the points slider from eBay, because when I began, I was a caregiver of my MIL who had Alzheimers and couldn't get to the meetings. WW is very doable, and if you follow the Healthy Guidelines, it is a nutritious program, as well. Good luck to you!

Faylene, I am 60 and am doing WW. My metabolism moves very slowly so I am losing slowly as well. Even after 2 days on program, I feel healthier. Give it a chance. Nothing is easy. The bypass isn't easy either.

you could go to 1 meeting for 20 or less and then you wouldnt have to go again
