Ideas for late night healthy snacking?

I live by myself and usually watch movies for a couple of hours every night. I can't break the habit of eating something at night. Any suggestions on healthy alternatives to chips/cookies/junk food? Thanks!

I love carrots, snap peas and other raw veggies with low-calorie dressings for dip. They satisfy my "crunch" cravings, taste yummy and help me get in my veggies - which is always a struggle (and this from someone who has been a vegetarian for more than 25 years - LOL)

I also like the fiber Wasa crackers with a thin layer of hummus. A good way to get more fiber and crunch.

You don't have to break that habit if you don't want. It doesn't matter when you eat even late at night (unless it medically bothers you).

DH and I have our 'dessert' for a bedtime snack...

If you like salsa....salsa and our own baked chips (take a corn tortilla or two and cut in to triangles, brush with some healthy oil and sprinkle with some salt, bake until crisp).

A few brands make 100 calorie bags of popcorn. They're great! Sometimes I pair them with one of those 8oz sodas or just have it by itself. It's a lot of popcorn.

DH and I like a chocolate rice cake with peanut butter and jelly on it. You can control how much pb and j. It's surprisingly satisfying, you get some crunch, some sweet and some protein to fill you up. We've tried other flavors of rice cakes which are good on their own, but the choc. w/pb&j rocks!

Colleen, I like the single serving bags of popcorn, too and congrats on being so close to your goal!!

I'd say the main thing for you (us) to do is to plan for the late night snack and have the points available.

Sounds like this is a special time of day for you. Enjoy it.

Movie Time

When it's cold outside, I really enjoy curling up with a cup of hot chocolate. I use an instant version that's zero points. I've noticed that there are some instant mixes that have extra calcium, too.

I like to have microwave popcorn with a little light extra virgin olive oil on it. Gives me lots of volume for the points, and I can get in my healthy oils on a day where I maybe didn't add them to a salad or something!

Question - when eating after 12 AM (and before you go to sleep) what day do you count that as? The new day, or the day that just ended.

Hey there-

This is my first official post BTW. I'm excited to start chatting with everyone! For my late evening snack tonight I had a small bowl of frozen blueberries with a tiny bit of sugar and skim milk poured on top. Tasted like yummy frozen yogurt. A small piece of dark chocolate or a few triscuits usually does the trick too.

From the time I get up in the mornig until the time I go to bed that night (even if that time is actually 2-3 a.m.) I consider all the same day. The new day starts at 6 a.m. ish when I get up again!

I count my "awake time," too.

A cup of herbal tea is a great evening treat. I've been exploring flavors for years. Celestial Seasonings Cinnamon Apple is perfect for fall. Bengal Spice is good alone or with a wee nip of spiced rum... the latter for medicinal purposes, of course!

I like popcorn (With season sprinkles) , pickles, olives.
