Question Whey or soy protein powders?

I am wondering which protein powder is best, whey or soy?

I have noticed that some of the protein powder aimed at women contain a combination of both whey and soy isolates. Or is straight whey better?

Thanks.

Have you considered hemp protein powder? There are other choices (hemp, rice) that I would pick before ANY isolate (soy or pea) and I don't use whey.

I use whey isolates mainly.
I do cook with soy
but
for my shakes, it is whey all the way.

I avoid soy because of known interactions between soy of any type and thyroid problems. I use whey. I also think the soy taste terrible.

Yogini- Hemp protein powder is not legal to promote for human consumption yet here in Australia.

When considering whey, is it better to have a wpi after a workout or a blend(wpc/wpi)?

I have used both but discontinued the soy because I found that it caused my asthma to flare. I was really disappointed because I saw great cholesterol lowering with the soy products. So I focused solely on whey, Designer Whey in chocolate is my thing. I have heard it best to have the shake within an hour after weighlifting to restore your , I think glycogen, but it could be something else. I'm not sure that was your question though, I got lost in translation of the wpi and wpc.

I think my protein drink, Champion Whey Stack, is a blend. To me it is a very good protein and the best I've ever tasted (which keeps me drinking it, which is important).

I usually have a protein drink within an hour of working out (weights or cardio). I take the subway home from the gym and can usually get home within 45 minutes of the end of my workout and fire up my Magic Bullet the minute I get in the door (Stack + Magic Bullet = winning recipe for success IMHO).

Thankyou for the responses.

I have used a whey blend but not sure how it compares to the isolate, so I am going to give the isolate a go.

Here in Australia we have different brands so its hard to find the american brands.

I just realized that all of the protein powder I have in the house are expired by at least a year. That being the case, I think I'll buy some new.

So, my question to all of you is what are your favorite brands? I'd like both a vanilla and a chocolate, mostly to be used for adding to shakes, oatmeal, ... as well as for baking.

I use HDT proBlend 55 (Alpine Vanilla or Dutch Chocolate)for baking and for adding to oatmeal or smoothies. If I'm drinking the stuff straight, I use SAN Anabolic Infusion (Vanilla Caramel or Chocolate Peanut Butter).

I like protein blends (but not containing soy or hemp) and can't use any product containing aspartame. Those were my requirements for initially picking these two. The Anabolic Infusion is about twice the price of most, but has an excellent blend of proteins and added amino acids. It's also the best tasting powder I've found for just mixing in a shaker at a water fountain.

I'm with you on the aspartame ( ) and I understand what you've said about the soy, but why no hemp?

My favorite proteins are Champion Stack. Chocolate if my favorite but vanilla is good too. They are whey and not good to cook with but they can't be beat for pure taste like a chocolate shake. I do a Reese's shake once a day and straight up chocolate two times a day.

Champion Stack Whey chocolate, one scoop, sprinkling SF Jello pudding mix to make it thicker and a half teaspoon of natural peant butter (no sugar added). I whip it up in a Magic Bullet and it's great.

I use 1 scoop of Problend and get the same calories, half the carbs, and twice the protein at half the price.

Why are you pushing hemp so much? I'm NOT a vegetarian. I've never been fatter than when I was a vegetarian.
