Get down with ya bad self, 2F. Great job on resisting Danish pastries. And yeah, I always do better with eating right when I'm working out and slinging weights. Don't want to undo what I've just worked so hard for, I guess.

I am so shocked about the dumb A person talking about weights and Iranians. Maybe an Iranian one of "us" should come and beat her over the head with a 60 lb. dumbbell. That would really serve 'em right. And it would be prettier than "US" ripping our clothes off and turning green. Personally, I never look good in green.

I didn't make it into the gym so I did my back / bi workout on DS new weight set. It has a lat pulldown attachment, preacher curl thingy and an incline bench so I was able to do the full workout. I don't have heavy enough handweights at home for my DB Rows so I did drop sets of 20, 15, 10 back to 20s instead. Man that burned good. I felt so strong, like the chick from the Terminator II movie when I finished. My chest / tri workout will also be at home today because I'm having a door repaired. He doesn't know it yet, but in addition to fixing my door, the repair guy is going to have to spot me on my bench presses. After all, I'm paying him with dinner for him and his two sons so I want to make sure that we break even.

Hey to everyone else out there. Keep doing whatcha doin unless of course, its bad and you need to CUT IT OUT!!!!

Hi,

I am slowly crawling into exercise land again. After my trip I am having hard time dong weights. Like mostly due to the fact that I do not have time after work but at work during lunch I do not have car to drive to the gym and it is darn HOT to use my bike to drive to the gym during lunch hour. So I just bike to/from work and even that much is hard - I hope it is due to the heat. I feel flab on my stomack and in my upper arms, but so far it has to wait till Thursday when my gym buddy is back from vacation and will drive me to the gym during lunch.

Other than that, I am having my 100 km mountain bike tour in 2 weeks and I feel I am more prepared than last year - does it mean that this time I will do it all (last year I skipped about 20km - did a detour!). Also, my triathlon is on August 13th - weekend after 100 km mountain biking tour - and I was skipping swimming for the whole month of July - hope I will not drown! It is open water - LOL!

Well, it was more of the rant, but thanks for listening... And yesterday my dog and I passed into intermediate level in agility team with flying colors - we were actually 2 points less to get into advanced! Only 2 mistakes were mine, not my dog's and I was really proud of him! Ran about 20 min during the test and felt exhausted!

I promise you, it gets so much easier from here. And, on that day (and it will come) when you really WANT the danish you will know how to fit it into your "clean eats" plan. Woo Woo!!

Julia - so, I am in, tiki's in - I think we got a gang starting!!

Sandy - you will get back to it all - don't beat yourself up. You are doing great with the bike. The weights will come back - hopefully this heat will break soon and that will "make" it right for you.

I had lunch with my Personal Trainer today, and we talked about the future and my becoming certified. Basically, he not only couldn't find any holes, but encouraged me and offered any help I needed and promised to prod me to study. There have been a few changes. I have decided to go for the ACSM cPT certificate - it seems to be "gold" compared to the others. I hope to have it by Dec 31. Just orderd the books today. Then I am going to move forward to become a certified 'wellness coach' through Wellcoaches.com, spring-ish. Then, we will see from there. Meanwhile, I am feeling pretty good and hope to ride this "up" wave a good long time. Yep, I had yoga today (can you tell, huh, huh?) My yoga instructor is on vacation until mid-Aug so I ham hoping to find an alternative - like extra massage - between now and then.

Good for you, Ellen! It sounds like the perfect plan for you. Without a doubt, ACSM is THE best and most prestigious certification. Unfortunately, I was a political science major in college and can't meet the ACSM undergraduate qualifications -- otherwise I would have gone for it in a heartbeat. I know that they won't even accept Mel's very scientific anthroplogy degrees so congrats on having the foresight on being a Bio major or whatever you were!

However, it's safe to say that when I graduated from college almost 30 years ago, I had NO clue what I'd be doing today!!!

Whoa! I'm confused! I just went to the ACSM site to drool over their certification and see that they don't require the undergrad degree in a health or science related field any more. I know that both Mel and I couldn't qualify for ACSM because of that - I checked back in Janaury when I was investigating certifications. Now they're using that same limitation for their 'Health Fitness Instructor' and 'Exercise Specialist' certifications. I wonder if they've split up the old PT certification into new ones and added a new PT one that doesn't require a college degree? Mel, do you know anything about the change? I might seriously investigate the certification now.

Yep, that is EXACTLY why I chose to pursue the new ACSM cPT - my BA is in Geography and an MBA - not quite health related, huh?

yep, they changed it on us. Now NSCA CSCS is the only cert that requires an undergrad degree in kinesiology, science, a med degree, chiropractric, etc. NSCA also added a new CPT certification because not enough people could qualify for the CSCS.

I just finished all my CEU's for recertification and now my gym is paying for me to get a ho-hum nutritional coach certification. Hey, they are paying for 15 more CEU's so I might as well do it. I should be done that one by the end of October.

Ellen, that sounds like a great plan!

Today was shoulder day. In keeping with the thread on "weak shoulders" I decided to up all my weights. I can barely lift my arms. Oh boy! Legs tomorrow

Went to my kickboxing class WOOO YEAH last night and felt seriously fitter than ever before!

Then I stepped on the scales this morning and measured myself put on 5lbs in about 6 or 7 weeks and perhaps 2" on my waist and my hips I stopped measuring after that!

But I FEEL better! Isn't that the main thing?

Keep moving 2F and good job on not letting the scale drag you down. It will move as long as you keep on moving.

I'm in a super good yet super nervous mood. I can now fit into EVERYTHING in my closet. Well, except for a size 7/8 leather skirt and I can get it on, zipped and snapped, its just a little snugger than I'd like. This makes me happy, but one of my motivators was hanging something that I wanted to be able to wear on my exercise bike to remind me each day of my goal. Now I have nothing to hang there. I hate buying clothes that I haven't tried on so I don't know about buying smaller things as a motivator. What if I buy them and when I do lose weight, they don't look right on me? I can't afford to waste $$ like that. Hmmm, gotta find a new motivator.

Just completed my full body weights routine! Upped most weights by 2.5lbs today! I'm psyched!

<- more like it!

I'm really pleased with myself today! Well this week really! It's nice cos I've got the place to myself so I don't have anyone pestering me to do anything that I don't want to do! The only problem with my slave, sorry fiance, being away is that I've run out of food! I've got to nip to the corner shop to get eggs for breakfast! And milk! And lots of other stuff!

I am totally LOVING weights! WEIGHTS ROCK!

I can't believe I haven't posted in LWL yet this week!! So here goes

2frustrated -- Welcome to our world...Weight training is awesome once you get into it and it seems like you have. Congrats on overcoming the danish pastry it is certainly a milestone... Throw away the scale for a while, if you're feeling better and healthier, that is definitely what counts...

Sarah -- So thoughtful of you to ask about my dad. He has prostate cancer and the radiation is barely bothering him he's a strong ole guy! He's on his 29th treatment he has a total of 37. So he's almost DONE

Tiki -- You rock girl and you must be looking just awesome!!

Sandy -- You're going to be one ''in shape'' lady after that bike tour and the triathlon!! Keep up the great work...

Mel, Meg and Ellen -- You girls rock with all this studiousness (is that a word?) I'm going to have to take some kind of evening course in the fall to keep up with you guys, since BTW I was bumped from my job a couple of weeks ago. I just could not talk about it at first because I was too angry at the system/union... but I'm ok with it now, I'll just have to go back to replacing school secretaries when they are sick, but dang I hated to get a call at 8AM and have to be at a school by 8:30, argh!! I guess there is a reason for everything and something will come up whether it is with the school board or somewhere else, I'm not worried about it at all...

Today I had a super awesome shoulder workout, I too lifted heavier than last week and it was fun. My goal is to get that rounded shoulder look, you know, like the above the bicep. I also did 30 mins on the bicycle and 30 mins of running it was all good...

O, Ilene,
I am so sorry about your job! My hubby lost his about a month ago and he is not in the union and now he went thru so many interviews that it is enough for 10 people but still has only one offer which he does not want to accept as it is the company where he worked before and was VERY unhappy. But i guess he has to accept it, as we do not have any savings at all and we need his job ASAP. How I understand that you do not want to talk about it!

And isn't it interesting that those things happen at the same time - like father is sick and they lay you off? Like - don't you have enough? Like when my hubby got layed off and my father passed away and tickets were astronomical price, my own country where I was born charged me 3xvisa price for "speed-visa". I was thinking - God, are you testing me, don't I have enough with mortgage renewal in 2 month, no job for hubby and the ticket price equal to my 2 month salary - no, you also want me to pay three time the price to enter the country!

Keep doing your exercise and I hope you will feel better! That's what I did today and I feel GREAT!

Sandy -- I am not worried about finding work, I have always been very lucky for some reason. Now, if my DH would lose his job then that would be a different story I would be a nervous wreck....

Wow, that's really impressive. I just got my new puppy and I'd be happy if he was housebroken at this point. And I can't believe you had to pay extra for a visa to your home country. I thought the US State Dept was bad. Hats off to you for doing the triathalon.

Ilene - good luck with the job search. I'm sure you'll find something better!

Tiki - how bout if you bought something that fits now but is just a little more, ahem, revealing? The more you sculpt the more you'll want to show it off

2f- I think I'll ride the coat tails of your enthusiasm. Next time I'm in London can I work out with you?
