Question Weight Loss Help

I have been working with a personal trainer 4 times a week for almost 3 weeks doing (weight training, and cardio), also I've been doing Weight Watchers for about a week and a half. I was weighed after my first week of WW and I gained 4 pounds, I did not cheat and basically ate a lot of brown rice, veggies, fruit, turkey, and chicken. What happened, and will the scale ever show the pounds coming off (it's very frustrating)....My trainer has not measured me yet, should I just wait on that? I really would like to see the pounds come off!

Do not despair! I had a trainer 2X week for 3 months a few years ago. When I went for my fitness evauluation I had only lost 3 lbs on the scale, but when they took my body fat and measurements I had excellent results - lost 4 inches off my hips, for example. If you are weight training successfully you may not see the numbers on the scale change because your body is gaining muscle, which is heavier than fat.

Abirdee -- Don't despair !! Be patient !! If you are doing alot of weights you may have made some good healthy, fat burning muscles... Wait for the measurements and I'm sure there will be a difference... Have you taken some pics? Check out this picture of fat -vs- muscle, it may help...

Overtime you may want to revisit your menu plan and tweak something there too...

I also feel that your rate of weight loss depends on how much weight you do have to loose... If you have a lot to loose it will come off faster at first that someone who has let's say 15-20 lbs to loose... It took me ALL of last year to loose 16# only to gain 4 during the month of December!! But I'm working on those now...

Hope this helps...

I don't seem to be able to edit my posts but I wanted to add an example of how this muscle vs fat thing works. When I was 25 I weighed 130 lbs, had no muscle tone, and wore a size 12. I had to really watch what I ate to maintain that weight. When I was 28 I weighed 138 lbs, did lots of weight training, looked great and wore a size 8 or 10. I could eat pretty much whatever I wanted.

I read a cool article this weekend about 3 fitness programs. They put the people in LA People in a Pilates / Yoga type program, the New York people in a cardio type deal and the Chicago people in a weight-training/strenth training class and yep, you guessed it, the Chicago people had the most dramatic changes because they lost fat, gained muscle and looked better. So keep up the weight training and don't let short term scale readings throw you.

Tiki.

A quick question - are you doing Points or Core? I noticed that the foods you listed appear to be Core-friendly. If you're doing Core, it's possible that you're eating too much. Too much of a good thing is still too much when it comes to food.

Just thought I'd mention it as a possibility.

If she's following points, eating the recommended number of points for her, and calculating them correctly, then she's not eating "too much." That's the whole, um, point of counting points.

I'm doing the point system! No I'm not overeating, I'm eating the recommended portions. And this past weekend I started doing straight cardio (power walking 2 miles)on the days I'm not with my trainer and already I can feel a difference. So I weigh in again on Friday and I will keep everyone posted.....Thanks for your support!

I agree that you should not be discouraged by the scale!

My scale weight has been stagnant for a few months-so if I went by that alone, I would be really dicouraged. I take my measurements once a month-and yesterday (measurement day!) my body measured in 1/8" smaller on each upper arm, 1/2" smaller waist, 3/4" smaller hips, and 1/2" smaller on each thigh. Not too shabby for the scale staying the same all month.
