Low Iron & Anemia

I need to bug you guys again....post WLS, how do you make sure you get enough iron in? I thought I had been doing okay with my GI problems but apparently my old internist hadn't been monitoring things closely enough, nor ordering the more specific test for anemia. Turns out that even though I should have been getting enough from the formula, protein bars & such...but I guess not. They started me on prescription strength iron supplements to see how I do with that but of course it takes a couple months to built the iron levels back up (...and it doesn't help that I'm at the tail end of my period right now). It sure would explain some of the problems I've been having & maybe once they get my iron levels up enough I'll actually have enough energy to exercise. Do you have to iron supplements? Any foods that you can recommend that are high in iron & easy to diggest?

:rofl: absorbing iron from food?????? not happening! well, at least not for me.

i'm on the same iron supplements that they give patients with end stage renal disease. they work - to a point, but there are also some other issues that affect iron absorption, like transferrin. hope your doc checks those levels as well!!!!!
