    Later!
  • wow pookie.. lots of great information!!!! and now, you and your sister get to try out the protein supplements and report back to us!! inquiring minds NEED to know,. and please find out if we can make these things into high protein popsicles [VERY important for those summer months!!!]

and ilene... you are welcome here ANYTIME AT ALL... we need the inspiration....
  • AWWW youse guys Thanks
  • great point!!!! whenever i used the blender i got sooo sick!!!! so i started just mixing them with a spoon and pouring them over ice. they go down better icy cold. it was much easier. and something else: immediate postop, no matter what i did they were just too thick. so i started eating them with a spoon. that also helped a lot.
  • hmmm. maybe i have to change what i wrote earlier. i used to use a concoction based on gnc's properformance whey protein. i used the stick blender for that, but didn't blend in the ice. i just dumped ice in it and drank it. well, at first i SPOONED it.

there's an old thread about protein shakes. i'll dig it up and sticky it...
  • Hi Pookster!

As you know by now, us LWL's use whey protein shakes to supplement our protein intake. I looked at the ProCel webpage and see that it's whey also. If you want economy, good taste and easy mix, PRE-OP, I use supplements from VitaminWorld.Com.

    http://www.vitaminworld.com/pages/ca...&CID=47&Page=2

The Precision Engineered Whey about 1/2 way down the page. (I see it's on sale so I will order more.) It shakes easy and dissolves in plain water. I like the Natural, with a little vanilla flavoring. (With a 1/4-1/2 cup FF cottage cheese in the blender, it's pretty close to a real ice cream shake. You can use a little Splenda if you need to sweeten it up, but I don't. *Also wanted to add that I can make a double batch in the blender and store it in the frig. Just need to shake it up to reblend the contents before drinking.) I usually have my shake while making dinner, and find I am full enough from it at times to eat less for that last meal of the day. Also, as a filler if I need a meal 6 for the evening munchies. I also use the chocolate for mixing in my oatmeal.

One thing you must be careful about supplements is that they are not regulated by the FDA, so you can only take the word of the manufacturer as to what's in it. I think you should take your Dr.'s advice for POST-OP shakes because it's so important for your healing. But I thought you might find these helpful for your "pre-op practice."

EAS, the Body for Life people make pre-packaged shakes ready to go, but they are a little pricey. I keep a 6 pack on hand for emergencies, like being out and can't eat, but I've only had 2. They don't fill my hole like my own, have 190 calories and only 15g of protein. EAS also makes a powder that I can buy at WalMart in the Pharmacy, but also pricey compared to the above, and chocolate flavor is about the same. While we were travelling this weekend, I saw an EAS truck/trailer on the Interstate, and it was gorgeous. I had to wonder how much that truck and paint job cost? For the price of their products, I can see why they can afford such luxury to transport their goods.

Everybody has their favs, so do some research and experimenting.

    2 cents,

    dip
  • just another note about protein shakes: watch the carbs. go for the low carb version at all times.

and post op, remember that we don't absorb more than aobut 20-25 grams of protein at a time, so anything with, say, 35-40 grams of protein is TWO SERVINGS for us.

    refrigerators are a great invention!!!!
  • thank goodness!!!!! peachie and i were talking about you yesterday [were your ears burning?? ] we hadn't seen you for awhile and hoped you were ok.. and HERE YOU ARE!!!!

i like the davinci syrups... they really do add a nice little something or other. and even in coffee!!!!!

great info about the protein shakes. keep on trying!!!!
