jiffypop 02-20-2004 10:46 PM

ok back from the gym, where i did: 15 minute warmup on the elliptical [without falling off!!!]

50 ab crunches at 40 pounds. 30 at 50 pounds. and 45 with no weight on one of those big blue balls [because there's no way these knees are getting up off the floor!!!!]

45 bicep curls at 15 pounds
45 french press triceps at 10 pounds.
and legs. and back. and chest.

an hour and a half.

and then the steam room and jacuzzi!!!! the reward for the whole thing!!!

soooo. whaddaya all think? or, perhaps more accurately, Y'UNS. should i invite the LADIES WHO LIFT over here for a visit?????

jiffypop 02-20-2004 10:53 PM

and i stopped the head banging. at least for now.. don't want bald spots.

it's so nice to see you all so ENTHUSIASTIC <?> about this topic.

and ditzy. it took me a SOLID 13 months of not-missing-a-workout [well, not more than 2 or 3] until i actually looked forward to doing it! and now, i don't feel right unless i keep on schedule. i guess that's what they meant when they said that those first 2 years are the time to develop good eating and exercise habits!!!

may i have some chocolate now???

VOW 02-20-2004 11:41 PM

Oh, Jiff, head on over to my house for the chocolate!!

I bought a soymilk machine a couple of months ago, and I've been TRYING to get a decent chocolate milk mixed from the fresh, hot, indescribably good soymilk.

I stumbled upon the Mexican chocolate!! Unbelievable! And with soymilk, you get FIBER!!

Jiff -- How do you find that amount of time in your day to do all of that! I work 40 hours a week. Have to take grandson along, or find a babysitter to do the gym. With him along, it would be useless to go. Cann't walk in the mornings before work, as hubby leaves before me, and I would have to wake him up to take him along on my walk.
a 4 year old at 5 in the morning, just won't walk 2 miles. After work I must fly to the daycare, before they close. Then its me and Colten, until grandpa comes home, which can be several hours after I do. Again with the babysitter-- or taking him walking with me. That is why I bought the Gym. Figured maybe, I could find some time, they he will allow me exercise without interuptions.
I was hoping that just chasing a 4 year old, could be considered exercise! LOL

dowsx4 02-21-2004 07:42 AM

Ditzy i know how you feel cause i have a 6 yr old and a 4 yr old who go to school. That is why i paid more to go to the gym that has a daycare in it! And my kids love to go to the daycare there and then we all swim together afterwards.

HAPPY BIRHDAY POOKIE :balloons:

Here is a cake you can enjoy :hb:

Pookie — don’t panic — what you’re seeing on the scales is a water weight gain, not fat. When you eat extra carbs (like the cake), especially when you’re not used to them, you’ll retain water for a few days. I’ve read that every gram of carbs holds on to 3-4 grams of water, so extra carbs = lots of extra water. Incidentally, that’s why people lose a lot of 'weight' on low-carb diets in the beginning — it’s water being dumped out from not eating carbs. In order to actually gain a 1/2 pound of fat, you’d have to eat an extra 1750 calories and I doubt that your one piece of cake was THAT good! Give it a few days and you’ll be back to normal.

Jif — you go, girl! Way to :strong: Yeah, it took me quite a while to like exercise too, after a lifetime of hating it. And then I got addicted …. :)

OK, I’m back from the gym for the day. Cardio = ran two miles, walked another. Weights = chest workout. This is where I’m trying to build up a fake cleavage :o since the weight loss has left me with nada on top except for skin. I worked up a good sweat, so I’m going to get a long bubble bath and do the hair and makeup thing and go out to dinner with DH tonight.

Anyone else do any sweating today?

jiffypop 02-21-2004 06:35 PM

another 3 mile walk - and change.

how do i find time?? i have no children, but i do have mom with alzheimers and a nasty job that i work late for OFTEN. it's unusual for me to leave there on time.

here's my schedule during the week:

up at 6:30. make deviled egg for breakfast, assemble lunch and snacks. drink tea and protein
between 7:30-8:00 the dog and i leave for our hike or 3+ mile walk

9:00 back home... change for work. get lunch/snacks into insulated bag. leave. do a couple of errands on the way to work

10:00-6:30 or 7 work.

then the gym 2-3 nights a week. it's open all night. the fatal mistake for me is having to return home to get something. so i keep EVERYTHING in the car: weight lifting gloves[ who wants calluses????? not me!!!!], socks, sneaks, change of clothes, water bottles, girlie shower stuff, towel]

for those of you with young ones, i hear that some of them like to do exercise tapes. maybe they could do it with you???? just a thought.

no matter what our pile of STUFF is... it's hard to fit exercise in without making a HUGE personal commitment - as in 'this is what i have to do in order to be healthy and saner' and then DO IT

this is something that i've noticed in just about every overweight person i've ever met: they don't put themselves first in their lives EVER. it's always that they're doing for someone - anyone and everyone -else, and never for themselves.

weight loss - no matter how a person does it - requires that 'i gotta put myself first' attitude, even if just for 30 minutes a day.

My birthday is comming up on Monday, ole Alvins was last Wed, my grandsons is Tuesday and I have a sister and 2 nieces who have Feb birthdays, so that could be a lot of cakes! :hb: :hb: :hb: :hb: :hb: :hb: Luckily my Mom only has one birthday party a month! The problem is that we can't find a day in Feb to have it!!

Didn't go to the club today, but did work in the yard, that should count some. Later I will do my Oxycise take and think about doing another exercise video.
