Yes, the lap band is removable. It is also restrictive, whereas the RNY is both restrictive and malabsorbative.

BTW, don't feel silly about asking questions here. I haven't been around long myself, but in the short time that I have been here, I have found this group to be very supportive, encouraging, and informative!

Thank you. What I've read about the various procedures was so long ago that it has all started to blur together.

I remember my husband and I both liking the idea of the lapband because it was restrictive only. Thanks for letting me know my memory wasn't completely gone!

Septemberbreeze,

WOW! I never would have thought of going out of the country. I don't know why I didn't think of it. Especially since my mom went to Costa Rica to have some cosmetic surgery done and I've toyed with the idea of going to Costa Rica for a breast reduction ... Just colour me slow! :dizzy:

Thanks for all of that information. It gives me hope for being able to afford the surgery the I'd prefer even if my insurance co. won't cover it.

MrsK - Going out of the country for surgery was not something I thought of right off the bat either!!! But - then again - having weight loss surgery didn't cross my mind until I read an article in a magazine!!! Everyone is on the same page with one thing- DO YOUR RESEARCH!! I learned SO much it was incredible. I truly felt totally informed when I made my choice. Again - I promote Dr. Rodriguez for the lap-band surgery. To this day I feel like one of his family. Keep us all informed on what you choose to do and good luck! One more piece of advice - talk to EVERYONE you can who has had the surgery. Not all people have the same experience, but it is nice to hear all stories! Robin (the girl in CA who was involved in the FDA studies) was VERY infomative. I loved her website and we talked on the phone and we e mailed. I learned a lot from her. She is a regular on the support board: www.lapbandtalk.com her "name" is coffeewench 30. Maybe she can help too! GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks again, Septemberbreeze!

I see you're in Sunny (or not so sunny this weekend) Florida as well! What part of the state are you in? We live in the Tampa Bay area.

I've been thinking about checking into the lap-band, since ole alvin will not even let me talk about RNY. I think I'll check out some of those sites.
